Sony's OLED Walkman coming April 25th to Japan, starts at $400 for 16GB
Forget about Amazon UK's variable estimations, Sony's gone ahead and given us official Japanese release details for its OLED-equipped NWZ-X1000 series Walkman -- known there without the "Z" but with an one-seg TV tuner. Street date is April 25 and the open price is 40,000 yen (US $400) for the 16GB NWZ-X1050 and 50,000 yen for the 32GB NWZ-X1060. Both models will be available in black or red. No word yet on US or Europe date, but we can't imagine those will be far behind.

Well, you're being too harsh on Sony, they still make great gaming products like the PS3 and PSP. Although Microsoft is kicking their butts on the online gaming part.
Yeah, besides the gaming, I haven't bought anything Sony related for a loooooooong time. Except for the ear phones I got a few years ago. They lost their innovative ways and style years ago. Plus all their proprietary crap got on my nerves and I will never buy anything from them that requires proprietary accessories ever again.
sony makes infinitely higher profits than apple
sony have about 6 times the total assets of apple
I'm wondering how this is possible when they clearly have some upside down pricing schemes and sub-par products
am i just engadget brainwashed?
is it because of sony bmg and sony pictures etc. ? not their actual electronics?
I don't get it, is this a joke? It looks like they took one of their phones off the shelf and removed the keypad and made the screen larger.
Why ruin the Walkman name with this crap? Can you please do something innovative Sony and not embarrass yourself with this? The PSP is a great device, develop that. Remove the stupid UMD drive, dumb, dumb, dumb move on your part. Always trying to go the proprietary route. Stick with the PSP and make that the new Walkman. Not this overpriced boring device that's diluting the Walkman name.
Uhh, since when was this $400 price announced for Europe or North America?
Sony is just as notorious for price-gouging as Apple is, but I don't think that even Sony would be stupid enough to try and sell this for $400 outside of Japan. I don't have a clue what an iPod Touch costs in Japan, but I suspect that it's not 30,000 yen.
