Xbox 360's class-leading warranty extended again to cover E74 errors
While long warranties are a strong selling point in the automotive world -- a sign of confidence from the manufacturer -- in gadget land bonus repair coverage usually comes along with some chronic problem. Most notable was the Xbox 360's iconic RRoD, and now a new failure is continuing that console's reliability black eye: the E74 message. It's said to be caused by a bogus AV connector or graphics chip, and while the message doesn't necessarily result in the same ring of crimson that caused Microsoft to extend the warranty the first time around, the company has announced it will cover E74-afflicted consoles for that same three year period, and will refund any money already spent by those fixing this issue. It's another classy move by Microsoft, but another worrying failure in an already disconcertingly fragile box.[Via Gamezine.co.uk]

Even if I had a bunch of games for the system. I don't think I would keep on sticking with something that would always quit on me. I simply don't understand how people go through their fourth and fifth warranty and keep on truckin' like it's the best machine. Even if it was the PS3 that had the same problems. I guess I would then become a Wii fan, regrettably.
It is a great thing that xbox is doing this. My roommate is on his 5th XBOX 360. This time his elite broke down but Microsoft is fixing it for him. He is just pleased it is getting fixed. He is very happy with his XBOX 360 and would not stray to any other console. My husband and I are on our 2nd. The first XBOX we had gave us no problems at all for 1 year and a little over 11 months, then it started resetting itself, then we returned it and got an elite which is on pretty much from noon till midnight or later every day and we still have had no problems with it. I also have a PS3, a computer set up for gaming and a couple of handhelds to use for gaming. I still prefer the 360 hands down over all others. And be thankful that XBOX is fixing the problem and paying for the shipping. I work for UPS which does the shipping for the XBOXES, it isn't cheap to ship them. XBOX could just tell you they'll fix it if you send it, like several other companies do with their products. But they don't they send you a ready to ship box and pay for it both ways. Anyone who says XBOX isn't doing whatever they can to make their mistakes right is just an ungrateful brat.
First of all, Microsoft makes the Xbox. Second of all, Microsoft can be doing, or could have done, a lot more than they are doing. If they didn't rush the release they wouldn't lose so much money on these issues, RRoD, E74, E73, Disc Drive, and other ones. The worst my PS3 got is it freezing up for a little bit, once every month or so.
Wow, i love engadget. MS has a class leading warranty alright, but the class leading warranty only covers their class leading defects. If your xbox dies and its not rrod or e74, its not covered by the 3 years warranty.
