HTC Touch Diamond2 gets unboxed, shown off on video
We haven't heard much about the appearance of the HTC Touch Diamond2 on US shores apart from a few AT&T-related whispers, but the squared-off handset is starting to pop up overseas, and the requisite unboxings and video tours have started flooding in. Sadly, these early units are still running Windows Mobile 6.1, so beauty's only skin deep -- or at least as deep as TouchFlo2 3D. Hardware video after the break, but there's plenty more at the read links.

the IPhone OS doesn't allow multitasking (which switching from an IPhone to Touch Pro, is one thing I've taken advantage of immediately)... fuck that.
they need to just slap android on a few more phones which aren't ugly pieces of plastic that have semi-outdated hardware
Shank, have you been under a rock all this time?
1. Apple would never allow that
2. WM is more like a semi truck with a huge diesel engine than a hyundai. It can do any work you throw at it, however, it won't look pretty doing it. iPhone is like a tiny sports car, it looks sexy, but lacks any true utility. I'd list all the things that WM can do that the iPhone can't, but that would take a while, and if you look at the iPhone 3.0's new feature updates, you'll get a sense of some of the things WM has been able to do for the past 3 years.
Yeah comparing an iPhone to a car, let's see, you would get one tank of gas and the gas cap would be sealed. God I love having two batteries for my phone!
Will there be a WinMo 6.5 version?
I'm pretty sure they're releasing these with the promise of an upgrade to 6.5 when it's available.
Honestly, very underwhelming, IMO.
I have the original Touch (not the diamond) and it looks better than this thing.
God dam
looks good from the front
but its fat as hell.
What a dissapointment.
So you need 3 hands to be able to operate this htc
If one can handle your mom with only 1 hand, there's no way this phone would need 3.
dumbass.
@ Level 5
It was obviously a joke... not obvious to YOU, but to everyone else yes.
It was obviously a bad joke which deserved the insult.
Wow Andrew, settle down buddy! It's just the internet! I cracked a joke at his joke, so yes I knew it was a sarcastic remark. Thankfully I had you around if I was a fucking idiot and didn't get these things!
If you are complaining about 6.5, you have a valid argument, but you also don't... First, TFLO3D2 has grown and expanded; it really is a truly functional and handy system-skin to use. The menus are similar to 6.5, more finger friendly, landscape mode is upgraded, and a simple ROM modification speeds it up. I'm not sure if HTC's version will be as fast as the community is making them to be, but that will be determined upon release. 6.5 is pretty minimal, to me it may end up being a little faster (from the carrier without ROM modification) but I find myself having to go through more steps to get to the same thing...
Either way, 6.5 works on the current touch pro, so it obviously will work on the touch pro 2 and diamond 2... with that said, the user can have their choice.
is it me, or does it look like the Zune HD, or does the Zune HD look like the touch diamond 2, but skinnier, at least in mock ups?
haha the 3rd hand creeped me out
I love htc phones. I almost got myself a Touch HD but that involved going to Orange. To me Orange is like the anti-Christ. So I got a BlackBerry instead. :)
Part of me still wishes I'd gone for that HD though...

Hmm, my speakers seem to be plugged in...
The guy doesnt know how to take out a sim card =0
ZuneHD ripoff.
Just kidding, this thing will be quickly forgotten since it runs Windows Mobile. For that amount of money you'll be better off with the sexier, more functional, and impressively engineered OSX powered iPhone 3G.
@ iK4rt
iPHone (in comparison to WM):
Sexier...yes
impressively engineered....sure why not
more functional? Either you're a total idiot or you just don't know that much about phone OS's and their capabilities.
As an iPhone 3G user:
Even jailbroken, it's not a business-centric phone. Period. End of story.
The PIM functionality is lacking compared to Windows Mobile 6.1. Hopefully iPhone OS 3.0 fix that.
Currently it can sync mail, calendar, and contacts... but needs a built in Tasks app that syncs with Outlook.
Sorely needs the upcoming Push Notification and Copy and Paste as well as Office application and PDF support (all built in... not as paid apps from the Apps store).
funny how people want iphone to have more business-centric functions, and want windows mobile to be more consumer-friendly.
why don't they make one that's the best of both worlds?
palm pre maybe?
That guy has a third hand! Or maybe a fourth- he had to handle the video camera!
Nokia E75 is alaso released today

NICE!!
Looks clumsy and clunky. I sure hope that the Toshiba TG01 comes in CDMA soon. I'm tired of the poorly built HTC crap - bad batteries, bad radio, bad BT stack.... I'm trying to think of something good to say about HTC - I guess from HTC's point of view a good thing to say is Verizon and Sprint don't seem to test any other WM phones from better companies.
Whatever you're jaded about I'm sure has been fixed. I've never had a bad battery/radio and the BT on my HTC Touch is better than my Samsung P2.
Dubb,
I also have the Touch - I had the mogul - it sucks. I got the Diamond - it sucks. I'd suggest you read the standard list of complaints on ppcgeeks or xdadeveloper or pdaphonehome from anyone unfortunate enough to have the CDMA version of the Diamond if you are going to assume anything is good about it.
if sprint gets it they probably will make it a diff color and curvier lol
Why oh why can't the stylus be dead! its a touch screen phone, its clear if you have a stylus then its not a touch screen phone, meaning, you have to use the stylus to exit out of apps and input information etc. Stupid
Sure hope Alltel carries this one---got the Diamond for the hubby, now I need one too.
It's a workhorse, altho the learning curve is a little steep for us oldtimers.
Diamonds are a girl's best friend.
Thats pretty sexy. *throws iphone away*
it was the diamond back that made me get the first one.. the new ones smart.. but thats about it
For the Dutch: here's a nice review of the Diamond 2, with two videos showing the improved TouchFLO and the quiality of video playback.
Even if you can't read Dutch, it's worth watching those vids.

BR/Ricardo.
Hey, this thing has a Swisscom SIM Card in it. I've been asking them when they would get the phone. Guess it can't be much longer =)
