Samsung's 1080p-blasting A800B and A900 projectors unveiled, plus six more
Good ole' Sammy's announced an octuplet of new projectors, and while we'd like to say they're all special in their own little way, two models definitely catch our eye more. The A800B DLP boasts a 1080p output, 10,000:1 contrast ratio, 1000 ANSI lumens, two HDMI ports, and a variety of other input options. The luxury doesn't come cheap, of course: retail price is $10,000. The other full HD model is the A900, and although we're lighter on details with this one, we do know it's packing 1000 ANSI lumens, only one HDMI port, an impressive 12,000:1 contrast ratio, and what we can only assume is price tag of equal magnitude. As for others, we've got the travel-sized $700 P400 with SVGA output, the L220 (price unknown) and $1100 L300 for bringing VGA / XGA to classrooms, respectively, the XGA-blasting D300 for large venues, and a $1500 A400B for home theaters, which features WXGA, 2500:1 contrast ratio, and 2000 ANSI. We kindly direct your attention to the read link for all the nitty-gritty details.

Samsung wants $10,000 for projector that 10,000:1 and 1000 lumens!? They should really check out the competition.
I'll keep my JVC RS10 with 30000:1 native contrast that costs less than half this retail, thanks.
Reminds me of the tripods from war of the worlds
I was thinking ROVs, but that works, too.
Oooolahhhh....
It looks like an adorable future-of-the-60's cyclops-cum- cyberpig, and I friggin want one.
All i could think of after reading the title was "MIND BLASTING!"
Blasting!
summer is coming up. I want to do a back yard movie, what is everyone running. I want to keep the price relatively low. I got some decent speakers to do a movie night in my back yard. What do you have as far as screen and projector go?
Projector: Panasonic PT-AE2000U: 1080p, 1500 ANSI Lumens, 16000:1 contrast, Street Price: $2,000
Screen: 120 diagonal inch projection screen home made from 2x1 stock and semi-transparent plastic painting drop cloth purchased at Home Depot. Total cost, about $40.
Audio: Bose outdoor speakers permanently mounted on the back patio + six Bluetooth wireless rechargeable outdoor speakers for spot coverage, or when I need to keep the volume low.
Fortunately, my house is set up so that I can put the screen outside (on hooks from the covered patio) while keeping everything else inside. The projector shoots out one of the windows at the hanging screen (rear projection). Everything runs through a Denon AV receiver with 2 HDMI outs and the outdoor speakers on a separate zone, so I can push iPod, HTPC content, Dish DVR, or PS3 content to the TV and the projector at the same time.
9 foot wide 1080p Blu-ray movies or playing a PS3 game while sitting on a floaty chair in the pool is awesome. I went the cheap route on the screen, but it looks great, and if it gets messed up outside, I can just rip off the plastic and replace it for about 3 bucks.
i bought the nec vt800 for my home theater and absolutely LOVE it! hdmi and network connections and 2700 lumens top it all off. super sharp clarity, color, and contrast, especially on hd channels. got it from newegg.com in november for $829 w/ free shipping. i'm a professional a/v guy for 15+ yrs and currently do a/v and IT for a major university as well. i do my homework when purchasing anything, and spent about 2-3 mos researching everything out there, and this was the best bang for the buck.

i forgot to mention one of the coolest things about the network capabilities of the vt800. b/c it's networkable [i have it wired into my airport express via my wifi network]. i can [and do] control the projectors functions on my iphone via wifi and browser connection. you can also remote desktop to it via mac or pc too!

Covenant Dropship approaching!
Ehm,
These products are old? iv had my Samsung SP A800B for a good 6 months now, and yes its worth every penny of those $10.000, since its actually extremely color correct, and dark as hell. The difference between 800 and 900B is that the 800 carries a DarkChip3 and the 900 carries a DarkChip4 from TI.
Samsung A800B is old. A900 is new....
but projectors are aproved buy the image specialist Joe Kane.

There is something i dont understand... Why dont the theaters implement this kind of projectors? I dont know how good quality you have on your theaters there in USA, but i here, in Portugal, watching a movie in the cinema is just awful. I would love to go to a cinema and watch an HD movie...!
1080p stretched out to theater size wouldn't look so good, methinks. I'd rather stick with regular old film. The theater close to me has two digital projector rooms but I can tell you they aren't ordinary consumer projectors.
1000 lumens is weak
Thanks for your comment James. I will have to dig about those digital projectors...those theaters i have near by have really really poor quality.
