Apple bites back at Laptop Hunter ads, 'agrees' with Microsoft that Macs are cool
Looks like Apple finally has something to say to Lauren, Giampaulo, Lisa, Jackson, and any future laptop hunters showcased in Microsoft's new commercial series. In a statement to Macworld, spokesperson Bill Evans goes through the usual list of touted Mac features -- security, stability, design -- before quipping, "a PC is no bargain when it doesn't do what you want." Ouch. He continues by "agreeing" with Microsoft that, yes, everyone does think its computers are cool. We don't expect Redmond's ready to end the ad campaign anytime, and as enjoyable as this statement is, our only hope is that the gang at Cupertino ups the ante and retaliates tit-for-tat by sending Hodgman on an filmed adventure through Best Buy.

Lets get to the important stuff, that Mom was hot in a strange way.

Macs are cooler than PCs because... Mac users are cooler than PC users.
Come on Apple, drop your prices by 50% or more!!! I'll buy then.
Please don't feed the iTrolls. There is no point stooping down to the low levels of immaturity shown by the apple fanboys here. I guess it comes with a certain dumbing down of the brain, because of excessive exposure to macs
@ Steveorevo 's.
You're a jackass. iPhones can be jailbroken from a Mac. I have 6 comptuers 5 are PCs. They all suck ass. I shouldn't HAVE TO do virus scans every week just because I do regular browsing. I bought a Macbook Pro and a Dell Mini 9 which I converted to OSX and I couldn't be happier.
BTW iPhone is the best phone on the market hands down. Enough said.
Good read: "A Windows guru spends two weeks with a Mac"

Wow the Holy War is in full swing
To all the pc and mac fan boys, both machines have there place in this world even though I don't like macs I want them to gain more market share.
Why you ask because if they do it will force M$ to come out with a better product Free Market IS LIFE. Im a pc lover and probably always will be I use Linux (Centos) on a daily basis and have a mac server at work for our graphic arts dept. However I've found that windows has the best of all the worlds. They have alot more software available than mac and have more main steam software than Linux not to mention that most of the Linux software is ported over to windows because they want donations since pc has 80ish percent of the market it makes since. Without each of the platforms we would be where we are today. With out mac and linux to put pressure on M$ it would be like having Intel without AMD just a bad thing.
About the virus thing has mac release there source code for OS X if not they are prown to get virus because the only reason LINUX secure is because any geek in there moms basement can fix vulnerabilities and submit the patch which is the point to open source
These PC vs. Mac debates are tired. Quite frankly, there shouldn't be any debate.
Macs are more stable. End of story.
PCs are probably better for the basic needs of your average consumer.
I am a graphic designer and former PC user, and as hard as I push my computer running Adobe Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Acrobat, Bridge (and on occasions Dreamweaver) Microsoft Entourage, Excel, and Word at the same time at any given day.
Your average PC isn't made to handle that kind of HD abuse. My Mac is. So...it is about being able to "run the software."
If you're not running daily at least 6 programs simultaneously AND handling multiple files ranging anywhere from 6MB-6GB, you have no room to debate whether PCs are better than Macs. Period.
I switched to Macs in 2001 and haven't looked back since. I had my system crash on me twice back when I was a PC user, and both were from using a floppy disc in my school's computer lab. Nothing more.
The frustrating task of rebuilding my computer TWICE was enough for me.
Are Mac ads annoying. Hell yes. I could do without the "cool factor."
But they are better performing machines, even if their ad campaign is off putting.
What we do for a living sounds very similar. I run a Vista 64 PC, Core 2 Quad (16GB DDR2) Nvidia GT 260 896MB 1350Mhz. EVGA 680i MB, 3 TB, RAID 0 of Western Digital Raptors (10,000 RPM). The master suite CS4 runs beautifully on this machine, which of course includes PS 64 (not currently available for apple). total cost of build : including, 24" and a 22" colour corrected, Samsung monitors, Shuffle Pro2 and Blue Tooth keyboard and mouse. under 3K.
Some of the documents I work on are large murals, average size 22 ft x 12 ft @266 p/in over 12GB. They're handled amazingly easy. I often have multiple apps running as you describe, no issues. I've never experienced a BSOD, never had a virus, and never been issues related to spyware..
My machines are also fine tuned, no excess services or drivers, and I keep them free of junk.
You know whats funny? I always see Mac users bootcamping Windows but never PC users booting Mac.
Hell I've seen Linux and BSD out in the wild on laptops but I'll be shocked the day I see OSX running on a PC laptop.
You think this is a defensive response from Apple? What do you think these commercials are? I love how Microsoft can never just act on their own it's always a response or they react to Apple. It's so obvious that they are trying to get back at Apple for the Mac vs PC ads. I don't mind if people want to buy a windows machine but at least get the right one. All of these "customers" have got horrible solutions for the "want/needs"
man i can't stand mac lovers, they are all noobs who download applications to get backgrounds, and think that they are really the 999,999th visitor on a website, that's why they think they are so easy to get viruses. another thing, the cheepest mac book is $1000.00 (13", 2.0ghz, 2 gb ram, and 120gb hd, geforce 9400m) that is insane, if you were to spend $1000.00 on a pc you would get a much better system. i'll look on new egg... wow found one for $400 has a 2.16ghz processor 2gb ram, and 160gb hd) ok here is one $1000 (15.4", 2.4ghz, 4gb ram, 320gh 7200rpm hd, geforce 9650m 1gb or memory) that is much better for the same price... would one of you mac fanboys want to explain this to me, is the crapy plastic of the macbook desireable (i know alot of pc's have crapy plastic, but not the $1000 ones)? is the multi touch track pad really worth $600? do you want to loose 2.4 inches? also the reason people say leopard runs faster than vista is cause apple supports ALOT less than windows does, NEARLY everything runs on windows, on a mac i wasn't able to edit the properties on a simple file, windows can. developers have to rewrite every program to make it run the only standard that mac followed was the iso disc image.
please fanboys speak up i want to hear your ignorant thoughts.
Thank God, I can't stand those stupid Microsoft commercials, their marketing team is deplorable.
Macs will always be cooler than PCs
Much more svelte
Better looking most of the time
Stable and smooth OS
Aimed at a younger, 'cooler' market
And no annoying anti-virus messages and security warnings
F*ck all computers. Unless they work flawlessly and without hassle, all computers suck.
"a PC is no bargain when it doesn't do what you want."
A Mac is no bargain when it doesn't run the software you want.
I know you Macatics will say that there is PC compatibility but its not fool proof and most computer noobs wouldn't know how to work it in the first place. Even if there was a big button that said "press here for PC software."
I still find it laughable that the bottom line of microsofts latest entry into their long history of failed advertising is that people buy PC's because they cannot afford macs. The people in the ad even say "Man, I wish I could afford a mac." Yes, macs are expensive. Good shit often is.

A few comments here. Sorry I'm not quoting, but by the time you get to this post, you'll have already read them...
"Apple Sheep" "Following the crowd" "being cool" have all been used to describe Mac people. But Macs are 10%. Aren't Windows users the sheep who follow the crowd? Seems like the "crowd" is the bigger portion of the population...
"price per price..." comments... Yes, computers that run Windows are less expensive than Macs. It's been that way for pretty much ever. but, the person that kept repeating "It's the software, stupid" is right. Hardware is only as good as its drivers. If Apple can make a more efficient driver for the hardware, it will be faster/better than the same piece of hardware being run by a different driver. In other words, if a superior piece of hardware has inferior drivers, it will perform like an inferior piece of hardware.
Plastic... I don't particularly care about it. I have an old Titanium power book that is dented all to hell and back. I'm sure if it was plastic it would have cracked by now. I also have a plastic Dell Mini9 that is already cracked after a few weeks. I have an 8 month old iPhone 3G that is also cracked. Plastic cracks, metal dents. No matter who makes it or what it's mad of, things you carry with you will get damaged. It's life. We're talking about a computer you'll use for a couple of years, not your grammy's fine china. If it chips or dents, just know it will be gone relatively soon anyway.
Virus/Trojan... Again, the argument of definitions is pointless. If something gets into your computer that you don't want there, it's bad. The biggest problem Windows has with virus/trojans is the registry. Once one gets in there, it's over. The advantage (however slight an advantage, mind you) that Macs have is the self-contained "package" system for installing stuff. If you install something that screws up your system, there's a good chance you can get rid of it by dragging it to the trash. Anytime a Mac "package" tries to move anything into another package or into your "Library" (where all the prefs and settings are stored) it asks for your admin password. It's a little annoying, but it puts the user in charge.
Market share/stock price... Apple's stock price is so high because they have 80% of the portable media player market and over 80% of the digital download market. Not because they make 10% of the country's laptops.
The big question is, why does it matter? I get on engadget about a half an hour, once a week to catch up things. I see multiple daily posts by the same people in the Mac vs. PC war over and over again. What do you people do? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, but it seems you should log off and go outside and play once in a while. Nobody out there has Converse vs. Nike flame wars.
LMFAO at the Microsoft and Apple fanboys! Why do you people have to argue about the stupidest shit? Seriously, does it really matter what someone else like, it's their preference. But then again, I get a lot of laughs from these comment arguments, so actually keep going!
This is great too. But I need for specific ideas when it comes to laptops. Anyway, thanks for sharing post. You can visit also http://laptopreviewsblog.co.uk/
