Ion Audio's Tailgater is the iPod dock that salutes those who rock
Those who live rock and roll lifestyles need accessories that look the part, accessories like the Ion Audio Tailgater. It's a $199 iPod dock that, with a few scuffs and scratches and stickers, wouldn't look too out of place getting kicked around on-stage at the club. It works with any iPod (first- and second-gen users will have to made do with playback via the headphone jack) including the iPhone and Touch, has inputs for mics or other instruments, and even has an integrated battery for up to eight hours of rocking out when you're way out. Now all you need is a gaggle of roadies to carry it there for you.

well that's odd. that's a 5g ipod video with a classic UI haha
FIRST!!
i mean...WANT!!
they should offer a model resembling the orange amps
who even has a ipod anyway?.... does anyone like apple?
ooh here we go again ... flamer bait alert!
actually it was meant as a joke.... not a very good one but still.
I just find it funny that most people like apple or hate it. yeah there are the exceptions but at least here its one way or the other......funny!..... to me anyway
Dude.
Don't explain it.
No one cares.
I don't know how comfortable I am docking my ipod on top of a speaker that looks like it's designed to be surrounded by a large group of people.
What's with the commercial? My buddy bought one of these about 2 months ago. This is not news.
You're an ass, but that's not news either.
true, these were around before xmas. Essentially a basic guitar amp with an ipod dock, the feature of interest being play-along.
Anyone have any actual audio specs for this thing?
well for that much it should pump out some serious sound......"should"
Does it go to 11?
It goes to 111.
Proof once again that no quality docks for zune or cowons.
Yeah, it really annoys the shit out of me, especially when people use this as an argument for iPod's superiority. Just because every damn company wants to make as much money as they can by releasing every single arbitrary peripheral under the sun for iPods and *only* iPods, doesn't discount the other player options any less.
Actually, it does discount the other players. And before you flip out, I have a Sansa Clip 4gb AND an iPod. I have the iPod beacause I like to be able to control it from the head unit. If there was any other player out there that had head unit controls, I'd be all about it, but there isn't. If my player runs out of juice, I can goto 7/11, Target, Walmart, Staples, the Grocery store, ANYWHERE and get accessories. For my clip? Maybe they have a mini-USB, but if I had a Zune, or a higher model of Sansa, there is a dock connector. Can't just use a standard mini-USB.
That, my friend, IS discounting other players. The fact that I can't get what I need when I need it, or have it do what I want it to do, easily discounts it.
If you owned a company that made media player accessories, who would you design accessories for?
95% of the market?
Or the other 5% scattered between 3 or 4 brand names?
If accessories are that important to you, why didn't you look into this BEFORE buying a Cowons or Zune?
Where would someone find a Cowon media player? I saw one once in a video rental store in the Atlanta airport. No one could tell me anything about it. I've seen them online. I've never seen Cowons media players in an electronics store. Zunes are available at Walmart (right next to the iPods.) Frankly, I don't want to give Microsoft my money. I don't want to support their platform. End of story.
If you are tired of iPods and the plethora of accessories, why don't you go into business designing accessories for other platforms?
Did someone force you to buy another brand of media player? You had to have known that there were a small number of accessories for a media player that has a tiny percentage of the market share.
Sweet!
Ok at first I thought this was way lame but if it works with other PMPs and you can plug guitars into it then it's pretty badass. But price makes me sad in pants :(
will this be Europe bound?
I guess it will play everything in mono??
I think this is a great solution for street performers. You can plug in your guitar and mic. It's battery powered. And you can run backing tracks from your ipod. Awesome.
Glad I caught this, I was gonna buy the Alesis Transactive later this week, but this one's $100 cheaper. Good find.
If it's called the "Tailgater", why does it say "Targator" on the front?
Dock compatibility is reason that zune hd will blow hard n fail, guaranteed,,!!!
ion is numark's crap line product subsidiary.
therefore I expect this product to be crap.
Bonus points to Engadget for rhyming! lol
I used to work in support for this company. This thing is a piece of crap, don't expect the battery to last more than six months. Plus it sounds horrible.
The design is as elegant as a BMW on monster truck tires... It's a combination of white metal trash and the pretentious yuppy into a single package...
