Go 'head,
Shuttle -- break on out of that shell! The company notorious for pumping out the
same barebone rectangle with a
different model name and a few extra ports has finally seen fit to do something a touch different, and what we're dealt is the X270V. This so-called Mini-PC relies on Intel's 1.6GHz Atom 330 to push the computations, while up to 2GB of DDR2 RAM keeps things in order. There's also gigabit Ethernet, 6-channel audio, a PS/2 connector for the retro folks, six USB sockets and VGA / DVI outputs. Shuttle also claims this bugger is energy efficient, though it doesn't go into great detail about just how much it'll save you each month. Oh, and it also comes loaded with openSUSE 11 (a
Linux flavor, for those unaware). Interested? Move to Europe and plop down at least €299 ($390).

Is nettop a new term? I love it! (lols)
only if you have been living under a rock for the past year or two.
So what does this thing do that is special at a higher pricepoint? what kind of video chipset does it have? I like linux but I thought one of it's benefit's was that it would make the device cheaper. The Eee Box is $300 and has XP on it... What am I missing?
- Atom 330
- Euro tax (gov imposed and company imposed)
- Shuttle premium
and they just feel like it.
Touche me.Touche
Linux is cool, but still can't make people switch from Windows.
I agree, i do some dabbling in nettops, and whilst i would love to put linux on all of them, its just not what consumers want
Hasn't bill gates proved well enough that consumers don't know what they want? they'll buy whatever is pushed at them in the right manner.
no HDMI, no sale.
No HDMI, no licence that has to be paid (as part of beforementioned sale)
I was actually considering getting the barebones version of this over at newegg...
Ha why?
Just get the CompuCase 8K07 case and an Intel Atom 330 desktop board and you save about £100...
Or check out MSI. Much better deal with an Atom 330. Like $130 if I remember right.
no, not under a rock. He's been dead and buried for some 280+ years now, obviously he's a bit out of touch.
You refer, of course, to the famous Sir Isaac Newton. Please don't confuse him with Sir Issac Newton, who was born about 26 years ago and does indeed live under a rock.
if its not ion its not worth anyone's time.
No kidding. Where are the ION based "Net-tops"? I've heard the Asus one is less then $300 for FAR more performance. Definitely worth the wait... how ever long that is.
Not quite exactly this, but would we be seeing the 330 in any type of these smaller netbooks any time soon? Anyone know about that?
330 but no 8400M. dang, can someone merge this and the 8400m?
I think it has a PCI slot, you could hook up a PCI graphics card
Is this like the "Pr0n Special Edition?" The tie and watching just lying around, magazine and all. Maybe the photographer has a fetish with bicycles. I really don't get the connection between all those featured items.
On topic, $390 is a bit too pricey though.
The layout of the product shot is really awkward. It reminds me of a CLUE Mystery Puzzle from my prepubescent years. Maybe it's just the Growing Pains tie and the snakeskin sheets that look passe.
Having said that, I love my Shuttle, complete with it's hack-sawed Nvidia 260. Cozy!
Why SUSE?
Support from Novell?
And people that's gonna buy this still use novell?
so overpriced... you can get a 330 & mini ITX motherboard (with gigabit ethernet) for $90 on newegg, a very good PSU in the 150W range for $50, 2 gigs of RAM for $20, and then that leaves over $230 on the case, HD, and a PCI card. Shuttle PCs always cost too much.
It cost too much, 400 bucks and you don't even get Windows XP? You can a 1.83ghz Core 2 Duo Mac Mini for just a hundred bucks more, which have a nicer os, more horsepower under the hood and for those how care a better looking case.
Orrr you could look at my website
Plug Plug.
Cool, this is the first product I've seen that makes the Mac mini almost worth it. I'm sure Apple and the fanboys will be thrilled...
PS: Off topic, but I do own a few apple products, and I think the whole mac vs pc argument is the stupidest disagreement since the civil war.
Anybody knows the brand and model of that watch in the picture?
That looks cool.
This is just a repackaging of the Intel d945gclf2 motherboard, a less than €90 board.
Looks kind of like the Rosewill mini ITX case a.k.a. La CUBE
