Samsung Instinct S30 now on sale at Sprint: $129.99 on contract
Right on cue, Samsung's retooled Instinct (that'd be the Instinct S30, if you had any doubts) has gone on sale at Sprint. You'll also notice that the $129.99 on-contract price we heard about is completely in tact, despite the fact that Best Buy Mobile could be selling this same handset in stores later this week for $80 less. At any rate, those champing at the bit to get one headed their way can now do so after choosing between Cobalt Metal and Touch of Copper hues, and if you're looking to snag one with no strings attached, you'll be paying $449.99 in order to do so.

At sale at Sprint?
Did he stutter?
No, just thought ON sale at Sprint would flow a little better. ;)
Sucks that they downgraded this phone....instead of Rev-A is Rev-0 lol.....why did they go backwards with this phone? lame sprint
Not nearly as bad as what Verizon did to the HTC Touch Pro/Diamond.
yeah it's definitely no IPHONE
is not rev-O, they went ahead with rev-a... same as the original, different casing
I owned an Instinct for like 8 months. I personally think they made it a little bit uglier. The only good thing about it before was the Ev-Do Rev A, and now I'm reading they downgraded it? The MAJOR thing that sucked about the original Instinct was it's pathetic OS, and that seems to be the only thing that they didn't intentionally make worse, but alas, they didn't make it any better either. Maybe this is a nonchalant way to kick Instinct owners off the EV-Do Rev A network to make more room for Pre users? Lol. I can only hope.
I'm still waiting for the Pre or the TouchPro 2. Though the rumored Instinct 2 with its Rev. A and 5MP camera sounds pretty sweet, too!
This phone is about as attractive as a frozen turd.
Ok...
Do you people walk into a restaurant, and just place your phones on a table hoping that it will pick you up a friend or date because you think it looks "sexy"?
I keep hearing these trite responses of "ugly", while looking at phones like this, and seeing nothing that looks ugly about it.
@ Look_around_you
For 150 bucks, I would like some quality look to it atleast... especially the fact that the retail price is 450 bucks? Puh-lease!
In my opinion, this is one of the most painful phones to use.
I think the original Instinct is a great phone but this should not be the same price as the orig. It has a plastic bezel, it doesn't come with the extra battery or external charger, is Rev 0, I don't understand what's going on here.
Pronounce it like it is: Instink-t
I got the Instinct when it came out last year. As MichaelKakias pointed out, the biggest drawback to the Instinct is the OS. Let's face it, it sucks. So much could be done to make the Instinct a kick ass phone but, it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
For that reason, I am going to get myself a Palm Pre in June. I love being a Sprint Premier customer and being able to get a new phone every year.
Does anyone know if they are requiring a simply everything plan for this like the orignial instinct? I don't really want this phone but want to see if sprint is still trying to lock people in to a certain type of plan... I already have unlimited data and text and have no need for gps. It could be an indication of what they might do with the pre and other future feature phones.
It requires an everything data plan, not a simply everything plan.
Actually, there's nothing mentioning "Requires Everything Plan" under the device details. Not a word about Everything or special plan. I'm thinking they finally ditched the requirement. I guess we'll wait and see if the phone activates on my SERO plan when it arrives Tuesday. The Palm Pre requiring the Everything plan should be expected, however.
Yes, Sprint shot me down today! You MUST have a Simply Everything Plan, they will not accept older unlimited data plans. The lady tried to explain to me it was a manufacturers requirement? What kind of bull is that?
Why do companies seem to put a need on mail-in rebates. I really hope sprint dont have a mail in rebate for the Palm Pre
Best Buy has it for $129.99 for upgrade, and $49.99 for new customers...oh and no damn mail-in-rebates!
Shouldn't the title be something to do with Nokia 5800XM kirf now on sale?
what are you talking about? this article is about the instinct S30 for sprint,...
It's obvious what he's saying. He's saying this phone looks like the 5800...
Why will i pay 129 for this phone, when I can pay the same money & get an Instinct with Rev A? I think Best Buy's 49.99 price makes a lot more sense.
Wow!!!!! What a difference a year can make! Remember the planned "big launch" they had last year? And that $100M ad campaign they announced. Also, that dedicated website that targeted how better the Instinct was compared to the iPhone.
Lol, look at where they're at now.
I didn't like this phone to begin with... failphone to be honest. It really didn't deliver what they promised and it lagged so badly. All the updates were late and left a lot of owners in the dark. They should have just cancelled this line if they aren't going to make any real upgrades on this unit. They should've just made it ther Omnia w/o the Windows Mobile (I can't remember the name of that model).
$450 for a feature phone O_o
Best Buy will be selling the Instinct S30 for 49.99 for new customers. 129.99 upgrade. I was at bestbuy today, and the Lady working at the wireless center had the phones in stock to sell, and they also had the price tags for them. Although they were not put out yet.
I think everyone here is forgetting that the s30 isn't the TRUE sucessor to the Instinct.

though my former Instinct (rev-a) and my current Blackberry Curve (rev-0) have different specs, their actual throughput accourding to mobilespeedtest.com, sprint.com/speedtest, etc is the SAME. I typically get between 800Kbps-1100Kbps /sec.
This phone isnt supposed to be the new instinct. Its meant to be the more affordable alternative to the Instinct 2 (Samsung Dash) when its released. Thats why certain things are out.
Now if u want all the bells and whistles, im thinkin the Dash will be around 199 after rebates.
Yay for Best Buy Mobile and their cheaper prices with no mail in rebates! (at least for new customers..) 49.99 new and 129.99 qualified upgrade.
Phone is technically both rev a and rev o. Rev A on Downloads, Rev O on uploads. How much do you upload with your phone? At least that's the way our Sprint Indirect rep tells it.... I'm guessing they might have done it for battery life?
A few things I'd like to know: is the spell checker still poor? Are the flat hardware buttons at the bottom of the screen still hard to activate unless they are pressed two or three times? Is there still no search function?
(from the preview videos I have seen, the S30 seems to be a little faster than the old one...)
Didn't own a previous Instinct so couldn't tell if you the spell check is better or worse. The one time I used it it got 3 out of 4 words correct but didn't have any ideas in regards to one misspelled word.
Bottom buttons seems pretty good to me. I haven't had to fidget with any of them in the day that I've owned it.
It's got Live Search if that's what you are referring to.
or 'chomping' at the bit...either one.

I am not clear on what the S30 brings to the table other than superficial changes over the previous model. Maybe they should consider running windows mobile 6.5 to make it better.
Then they could get some real apps like internet explorer mobile, live mesh for mobile, silverlight 2 for mobile, windows media player mobile, windows mobile marketplace,.NET compact framework, .NET mobile, compact framework, and SQL server compact. Microsoft has officially confirmed a new web browser for Windows Mobile, Internet Explorer 6.
The new Windows Marketplace for Mobile is a centralized place to buy increasingly popular mobile applications. Windows Mobile 6.5 features a new user interface and "honeycomb". A customizable start screen with hexagonal tiles for each program that are designed to be easier to use on touch-screen phones. The Windows Mobile start menu can be customized with Internet applications like weather or stock reports, that are automatically updated. The new Windows Mobile 6.5 user interface is designed to be more "finger friendly," You can also move icons up or down in the new layout. In addition, the new Windows Mobile Home screen will support special widgets, which will give status information like missed calls, new messages, etc. Another new feature of Windows Mobile 6.5 allows people to go directly to waiting voice mail, text messages or other information when unlocking their phones. Microsoft Recite, came out of the company's research group. It allows people to record voice notes or other audio files on Windows Mobile phones and then search for keywords using their voice.
