MSI's eco-friendly Wind Top AE1900 has already been
formally introduced and
spotted over in Hanover earlier this year, but the outfit notorious for withholding price and availability information until the last possible moment has finally let loose those very details. The 18.5-inch all-in-one PC is available with an Atom 230 or 330 CPU, a 1,366 x 768 resolution touchscreen, integrated GMA950 graphics, 2GB of DDR2-533 RAM, a 160GB or 250GB hard drive, 4-in-1 multicard reader, dual-layer DVD writer, WiFi, gigabit Ethernet, a 1.3 megapixel webcam and audio in / out sockets to boot. Two configurations are available (both are shown after the break), with the lesser of the two going for $529.
Whats the point of putting an atom processor in a desktop; if this had anything other than the atom i'd buy it.
Cheap, quiet, compact, uses very little power.
none when you hook it to a screen. Especially at that price point. $529? knock off the screen and $200 and you may have something there.
It's also the dual core version of the atom so thats 4 threads, equal to a low end quad core.
not even close to a low end quad core.
I think you guys are missing the fact that this is an 18" all-in-one desktop with a touchscreen for under $550. It's also very low power.
power savings. big time. to the average consumer, that may not matter... but ive already got two companies looking at retrofitting some VERY old workstations with these. the power savings they will have in the first year alone will pay for the new machines.
Jon-
It still looks like Vanilla Ice got together with The New Kids to design it.
If it had Ion, I'd buy one. For fun xD
As for this - a great alternative to a workstation. Too bad we already bought dual-cores last year, $550 is very attractive price for a double-core PC with 18" monitor. Not that many PCs to save money on power savings, but I'm somehow sure companies with 100s or 1000s of workstations will notice the difference.
Who cares if it's 18" when the dot pitch is .3mm? It may as well be a computer from the '80s. A screen like that only costs the manufacturer 'bout $50, and for a $500 computer you're getting horrible specs.
Will it run ubuntu? Will ubuntu work with the touch screen?
cool story, bro
pretty slick.
very cool but a little pricey for kitchen ;)
That looks a lot like the old Apple Studio Displays...
I was going to put that same comment!
http://www.onedigitallife.com/images/apple-17-studio-display.jpg
MSI...the 90's called, they want their acrylic design elements back.
2nd. Is that an apple logo in the bottom middle?
seriously, what a blatent ripoff
What? How could you say that this looks anything LIKE the Apple studio display?!
1: The studio display was 17" (with higher res) not 18"!
2: The studio display's legs were NOT slanted slightly to the right like the MSI's are!
3: The logo is COMPLETELY different!
4: The MSI has little shoes at the bottom of the legs that the Apple display DID NOT have!
;)
For the PC world, this is innovation. Slight changes from Apple are what's important. Microsoft does their part to copy OS X, and it's up to the PC manufacturers to do their end.
@Ariel:
Haha. How about "How else could someone design a flat screen? Of course it's going to look like that!"
ION or bust. die already, GMA.
Yes!
@Davimation
I was going to put that same comment!
http://www.onedigitallife.com/images/apple-17-studio-display.jpg
why does the operating system box say something about the touch screen?
ION.
While it looks pretty, at that price you can get a desktop with a REAL processor, an LCD and a touchscreen add-on kit. While you loose the aesthetics, you'll earn separate components that can be replaced individually instead of the whole thing dying on you.
v
My only 2 questions are:
1. resistant or capacitive?
2. Can I install OSx on it?
If Capacitive and can install OSx then this would go great as a Bar Top Media Hub in the basement.
Released? Yes!
Available for actual purchase and delivery? No!
Hmm. All-in-one PCs seem pretty cool, but I think I'm too anti-fad to buy anything being marketed as "eco." Am I the only one with that problem?
This would make a Nice Hacintosh for my kitchen
It may be a bit of an underpowered system, but it is pretty.
Lets see some reviews. If the touch stuff works well, and you can boot it without a keyboard or mouse attached, it might be a viable kitchen touch all in one. I'd probably still wait for the version with Windows 7 on it at this point though.
There's a "review" up at:
http://translate.google.co.uk/translate?u=http%3A%2F%2Fbbs.cool3c.com%2Farticle%2F7108&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&hl=en&ie=UTF-8
though the translation is a little rough. Sounds like max power consumption around 50 watts, and doesn't handle 1080p content so well, even with the dual core 330... Course, that's not a bluray drive in there anyway...
Hopefully it can handle the typical Flash stuff like Hulu at least, and the touch interface is smooth. We'll see...
Hey if you comment fellows don't mind could you comment back to me on your personal opinion for purchasing a new computer with in the price range of around $750 - $800 or so. I know windows programs and apple programs just not as well as windows. I prefer apple only because it has less security issues and i just want to know in a year or for how ever long i need one, that it will still be running not worthless, they aren't the cheapest especially when you know they get issues as soon as you use internet. I need it for internet and business like accounting and invoices and also music and hobbies. Pictures and programming for photos would be important and also like graphics or graphic capable for furture business interests. If you happen to read this and dont mind i would appreciate the opinion as long as genuine. Thank you take care
It's Nice! very. for a very cheap price, that's a lot of help.
