GamePark Wiz app store coming this summer

We heard murmurings of a possible app store for GamePark's Wiz open source handheld back when we first laid our hands on it, but now it's officially on its way. GamePark Holdings' awesomely-named Game Contents Open Store is now set to open in August, allowing all users to produce and download homebrewed apps and games for the Wiz. The SDK is currently in development, and there aren't any further details beyond that, but we'll keep our eyes peeled for you.

those look lite the last models of gameboy's
GameBoy Micro
tell me how "Game Contents Open Store"=awesome?
I've a feeling they're being ironic on that one.
first.
hi im new here
Six comments so far today. You're an active little troll, aren't you?
Also, your "first" comment failed. God damn, I really hate you.

NO!
Homebrew my arse...
The only thing that ends up on these things is Nintendo Neo-Geo Sega Mame Roms...
Farking copyright shite... you know these people never make games...
You obviously have never owned a GP2X or a cracked PSP.
2nded, the only thing that will be made that is worth playing on this thing will be SNES games.
seems pointless, there isn't a gateway for "another game system" with minimal specs. The iphone took the latest known step into gaming by including touch along with a cell phone and shit. This is a mix of gameboy and psp and the graphics most likely won't be anywhere needed to get this item's foot in the door
my 89 cents.
then get a pandora... $300 will have its own games and already has a rather large homebrew community even before launch the twice the res of the PSP screen and dual SDHC slots for most any video you can play on a desktop except true HD which wouldn't matter on a screen that small anyway
You're not going to find this at your local electronics store. This is a PSP type PMP that anyone can write code and/or games for and distribute to anyone else and it'll run without any hacking. It's a toy to tinker with and have a little fun with if you're into that scene. Gamepark Holdings knows that they aren't going to sell more than 50,000 of these in it's entire lifespan and are perfectly fine with that. They aren't trying to compete with the iPhone.
...and at least it has proper gaming controls. :)
Fact: The open source movement never made anything as fun as games you paid for.
FACT: Bears eat beets.
Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.
the fun to cost ratio though makes me laugh at your comment you can never beat free fun never besides some games are really good artificial nature is one of my favs sure not a big production game but it sure is fun to shoot those little wasp creature things XD
Cave Story.
End of discussion.
Seems like a nice game, definitely will be playing.
It just seems a bit...outdated :p
Also, not open source.
There are plenty of commercial games that aren't as fun as Battle for Wesnoth, Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup (you'd like the tile version, and Dwarf Fortress. In my youth I've paid for a licensed game or two and for my (wasted) money Wesnoth is a thousand times better. I've also played a lot of great big budget games.
Thing is, with opensource (and freeware) you're getting potentially great games for free. Why can't I enjoy my free games and my commercial ones too? Just because I like iTunes doesn't mean I'm not going to check out Jonathan Coulton's free songs.
Fact: Putting "fact" in front of a statement doesn't make it a fact.
FACT: Bears
The only thing I feel that can make this device worth getting is for it to do something different that no other portable device does, and not in the gaming department, but in useful apps department. For portable gaming I'll stick to my PSP.
the pandora might be what you are looking for then ... its more like a computer squeezed into a handheld system it packs an Arm processor only a much more powerfull version than is in anything else of the type at the moment exception being the newest archoses but they don't really count
It will easily fit in almost any pocket and play free games, semi-commercial games and emulate PS1 and older consoles and a ton of older computer systems in a completely open platform with proper gaming controls. Let me think...what devices match this description...hmm, still drawing a blank here.
@Frogboy
If given the choice between this, the DS, or the PSP (which closely matches what you describe as the major highlights of the Wiz) I'd take one of the later two. All I'm saying is there's now WOW factor that this thing has that will pull the casual gamer-on-the-go to want to buy it.
Now if someone were to write an app that let you stream movies to it through a wifi connection (although you'd have to get a wifi SD card and get it to work with this) then that's something that will spark the interest of more people. For me, it's just another portable emulator, with a smaller screen...what can this do, that my PSP can't.
To be honest with you, Dee, if you find the DS or PSP portable enough and either don't play homebrew or have means to do that on one of these closed system, there really isn't really any good reason to get one of these. It is an open system so someone may write the application that you described but there are probably other devices that are more suited for that kind of thing anyway.
I was just making the point that this device is actually unique in the fact that it is much more portable than either the DS or the PSP and is completely open for anyone to write software and games for without any hacking. I'd easily be able to slip this into my shirt pocket or any other pocket I have available and it won't be very noticable. Can't do that with a PSP. It's too big. That's not going to be a big deal to a lot of people but for some, it's a major selling point.
iPhone influence is alive in the techworld.
Jobs is a good man ,by not suing.
Engadget is being a good website, by not banning you.
Who am I kidding, they probably agree with you.
Open source ,?look at android , stagnant.
Is it just me, or they look exactly like Game Boy Micros?
.. its probably just me...
anyway screw open-source, I would rather have GBA emulators
Your emulators that are ABLE to ported to the device because they ARE opensource? Yeah, screw opensource.
The question is: can it play MUGEN?
I went for a Dingoo A320
It looks so much the same as Archos Gmini 400/402..
I said: "You want ice-cream", both of them said: "Yes"...
I like the looks of it. It just lacks a bit of something I can't seem to figure out.
If you want to play SNES games buy a Gizmondo for 70$. You can play all Windows games the Giz, too.
