Video: SuperNES Advantage controller mod for Xbox 360

Sometimes you can't beat the classics. The gentleman who brought his old Super NES Advantage to bear on his Xbox 360 is back, this time working his magic on the Super Advantage joystick. This bad boy is wireless, runs off an internal battery (charged via standard USB), and sports an LED player indicator. If you've never been able to get used to the standard Xbox controller, keep an eye out for this bad boy on eBay. The modster in question has stated his intention to let this one go to the right bidder, but not before he makes another one for himself. The next trick, he says, is to add cross-platform compatibility with the Wii and SNES. Video after the break.

stoopid
ahhhh. the sweet, sweet irony of it.
yawn....
+1
Agreed. Maybe I've been spending too much time on Shoryuken's Tech Talk forums though. They've got some crazy mods and even better custom sticks.
uhh...that's not an NES advantage in the picture. It's for the SNES. just saying...
+1 for you!
Was just about to point that out.
gota hand it to these people, lot of creativity in making one of these, or any mod for that matter
@ Phil
Agreed on the tripod need. His color balance sucks, too. Jesus, when will these modders stop wasting so much time making awesome things and start hiring professional film crews to shoot their achievements?
NOT the NES Advantage. This is the ASCII Super Advantage for the SNES. PFFT. And you call yourself geeks. Turn in your membership card.
I agree, someone has to go sit in time-out for this. It even says Super Advantage on the top of the controller in the picture....
Everybody who can claim the geek title knows that Nintendo had little to do with this joystick being made... Sheesh.
Also, would somebody PLEASE give that guy a tripod before he mods again?
ascii made some sweet pads.
Engadget writers do not know what "linguists" are either, apparently. And they say "Wiimote" now.
Where's the quality control?
Once upon a yesteryear- that was an apt name for that sort of controller - nowadays - there's no 'advantage' with that unit!
Forget or F#$k everyone above me this is tight.
Ha it is a nice mod, should sell for $100 to some dick.
Even if I spent whatever exorbitant amount of money this guy wants for this thing, I would still suck at Street Fighter.
Especially with this piece of crap stick. These old joysticks were just glorified dpads and were nothing at all like the real sticks found in arcades and todays higher end joysticks. I remember them being almost as hard to use as the power glove.
What's next? The Sega Activator modded for the xbox 360? Its getting a lil out of hand. Apparently everyone who sticks some LEDs and a gutted controller in an old school controller gets there 15 secs of fame.
Very retro!
Is there a way to filter out news about mods that will never be replicated because they are useless? Or better yet, please engadget, stop writing about all these useless mods.
Yeah, 'cause we need more room for cell phone and netbook entries, right?
/facepalm
At least the occasional mod story offers a little human interest to what is becoming little more than PR Newswire Redux.
I didn't realize it was possible for a nerd to not know what an NES Advantage looks like. This is a sad day.
NO MAN YOU GUYS ARE FKN DUMB, THIS CONTRLR IS THE SHIT! THE X-BOX CONTROLLER, HAS NEVER BEEN UNIVERSAL! BUT NINTENDO AND PLAYSTATION, IS A MUCH MORE RELAXED, CONTROLLER SITUATION!!!!!!!!
THE X-BOX CONTROLLER IS MORE FOR KIDS, WHO HAVE NEVER PLAYED A SYSTEM BEFOR
BUT ONCE YOU GET USED TO NINTENDO, SUPER NINTENDO - AND EVEN SEGA SATURN,
He makes a good point.
For the love of GOD people, learn about white balance, geeeze...atrocious!
I like these posts, far more interesting than a new netbook or a new iPhonekiller. Love to see a SNES mod for the Wii, i might actually start using the Wii again.
Well, at least I know how to use that controller. I miss my NES gamepad, honestly...
WTF was this picture taken in a cave with a torch?!?!?!
Wow, I was really expecting a Ben Heck reference from engadget in there...
I'm almost dissapointed lol
I was going to post on ben heck but can not get pictures on there
Just because you have the name right in the post doesn't mean you can get away with the post's title still saying "NES Advantage".
Gah, should have made one from a Sega Megadrive/Genesis arcade powerstick. Now those things kick ass!
I give him credit for trying but as most of us know...trying is not winning. Why the hell is he spending his time on this? Oh wait, I bet it has to do that he still lives at home and his EDD checks have run dry. The only thing this guy has a lot of is beer and free time. Maybe some weed but that low-grade "recession" stuff. If this tool used half the energy to find a job as he has to mod for a totally unsustainable cause, he would be CEO of a company by now. OK so lets say he finds a sucker to pay $500 for this worst that Chinese standard QA controller. Will the $500 actually make a difference in his life, that's less than a 2 weeks salary from even a place like McDonald's.
I own one of these, although obviously not hacked to work with the Xbox 360. It's just not that fantastic a joystick, and frankly, I wonder what possessed this man to spend all that time hacking it when he could have made a sturdier, more responsive stick from scratch.
Are those M 'n' M's? Mmmmmm.........M 'n' M's.
First of all to someone I have a full time job, I do not drink and do no rely on government to keep me up. I do this because I enjoy working with electronics. I am only selling it so other people who appreciate these kinds of things but can not mod it themselves for whatever reason can enjoy it. People like you are the ones that ruin things for everyone else because you fear what you don't understand and you judge people based on you on piast attitude. The thing is if you don't like it then fine but that does not mean you have to ruin it for everyone else. Also I am married with two kids and we live without any problems with money.
