If you're in the market for a new laptop / netbook, you might want to add Acer's just-released
Aspire 3935-6504 to the list of potentials. The early reviews are in, and it looks like Acer's got an aggressively-priced winner on its hands.
Laptop Magazine calls it "one heck of a bargain," noting particularly its sleek and sturdy design, backup and power saver buttons, full-sized keyboard, and the appealing $900 price tag.
PC Magazine went so far as to give it the Editor's Choice award for budget laptops, lauding also its eco-friendly credentials and impressive battery life (4 hours and 50 minutes, by its metric). Both sites bemoaned, however, the lack of HDMI and eSATA ports and its inability to run games as well as competitors like the Dell Studio
XPS 13 or HP Pavilion
dv3z. Providing a less enthusiastic tone is
Computer Shopper, who seems to take more of an issue with its gaming deficiencies than the other two reviewers. Still, the site recommends it for those consider style, portability, and price tag the main selling points. Check out the read links below for more thorough dissection.

Who cares if it plays games well or not if it does everything else well? Gamers can go look for a gaming laptop ...
you don't have to be a die-hard to want to play some games on a laptop
and if you want to play games on a laptop it doesn't mean you want something bulky
and for same price you can get the xps 13
But was this laptop ever marketed as a machine for any sort of gaming? It just seems unfair to penalize a laptop for being unable to do something it was never attempting to do in the first place. Every machine has its advantages and disadvantages.
and gaming is one of it's disadvantages, and it was rightfully pointed out
besides many non-gamers pick up whatever PC catches their eye, a good GPU helps more than just games, and I would expect by now that most premium laptops would have one just so non-tech savvy buyers get a laptop that is as powerful as it looks, that's how Apple has been successful with its macbooks and that's what Vaios and XPSs are hitting for
I'm digging that color scheme, but what's with the 16:9 screen stuck in a case designed for a 16:10 screen?
I really like the idea of a fast and light laptop that is relatively inexpensive. Although not mentioned, something this laptop does have which makes it desirable is the 1366 x 768 resolution. That is something you cannot get on the competitor laptops without having to pay at least $100. I am not saying it is better per se, but rather a nice perk for a certain market, one who would like a light laptop to watch 720p movies on.
I must say the laptop is pretty nice looking too. I am happy PC manufacturers are spending more time on making their computers somewhat aesthetically pleasing.
I like how the embedded link to the dv3z has no posts yet
Was thinking the same thing...
Looks alright... with the exception of the huge bezel
Yeah, you can tell that chassis wasn't build for a 16:9 screen. It's not even all the way around. Looks a bit tacky to me. Otherwise, I'm loving the color scheme and the price. This looks good.
An Acer that looks like it has better build quality than your typical plasticky HP? Well, I'll be damned.
Laptops should never be purchased for gaming. I'm sick of hearing about gaming laptops.
maybe, but there's no reason not to provide a competent gpu (even a friggin 9300m)
hell, i play left4dead all the time on my old xps m1210. i don't have space for a desktop at school, but hooking up my laptop to a nice monitor still provides a decent playing experience.
People keep complaining about lack of space at school. My dorm is a tiny box, but I still managed to cram in my full tower...
Me wants!
Or probably I should wait for further releases from Acer? I see that they are going on the right way with their laptops.
Probably the HDMI-output and a back-lit keyboard would make it complete for me... ok maybe I'll take an 9400M with that!
edge-to-edge glass displays are awful. why they've become dubbed a 'feature' reeks of ass.
what is the different between the 3935 to the acer timline ?
Isn't the Acer Timeline gonna blow this thing outta the water?
3935 is a timeline machine, just the first to be released 5935 & 8935 slated for June.
This machine gets my vote
