LG announces 1080p DivX support, release windows for new TVs
LG's always done a good job supporting DivX in its players and TVs, so this morning's press release announcing that the company will offer 1080p DivX support in its latest gear isn't all that surprising -- we're mostly excited because it suggests that the latest round of LED-backlit LCDs will arrive in "late May and late April." That's, uh, real soon now, so those of you waiting on a little Scarlet action in your lives should look sharp.

I don't really think that recycling photos makes you any greener.
...shes still on her knees...giggity!
So to get a good look at this TV I have to kneel on the floor...of an esophagus?
I thought I was suffering from deja vu.
Watch out for massive competitor pun.
"look sharp"
Show me the legs!
usually when a girl's on her knees, I couldn't be less interested in her legs!
@crawdad689 : reminds me of a Boston Legal episode...
is that windows vista or xp though?
XP embeded I would imagine - OT: is there an embeded version of Vista or 7?
Not quite sure why they want to run them on windows anyway - One would have thought they'd be better off customizing some kind of linux distro.... maybe its cablecard/mediacenter.
I think "release windows" refers to the window of dates in which the TVs will be released.
"Hi. My name is, Chikako. Welcome to the inner ear. Marvel at my perfect TV."
If they wanted to support a commonly used HD format, they'd have been better off supporting matroska files with x264 video. Nobody uses DivX for HD content.
DivX uses H.264 in an MKV container for HD content.

So if this is truly DivX HD compatible then it should be able to play MKV files.
same picture for different news or two articles about same item?

btw, why pack so much into a TV? I'd rather have an external device that can handle video decode that I can use on different devices
I want my TV monitor as simple as possible and that's why I think my 60" Kouro is the best I could get .
I want my sound to be processed by a proper receiver and a real 7.2 (yes 2 subs) speaker system (I choose Onkyo receiver and B&W speakers and subs).
And the media and content taken care of a dedicated system such as my Niveus Denali with its servers.
To pack everything and some more into a TV set is a bad idea.
LED TV
Pack of lies.
"release windows for new TVs"
got me all excited. I thought LG was going to ship TVs with Windows Media Center installed somehow...
Great, just when Divx starts becoming playable "on anything", the damn pirates go and switch everything over to MKV!
Who wants to convert codecs on every video they download!?
matroska is just a container.. the actual video inside is usually H264 but can be pretty much anything.. The new version of Divx/xVid (and the Divx HD) uses H264 as a codec so it should be trivial to convert to matroska.. like 5 seconds..
Is it just me or does that TV look like a 2.35:1 wide screen vs. 16:9 ??
It's just an LCD with an LED backlight. No big deal here. But people think it's some whiz-bang new technology because they're marketing these as "LED TVs"
Plasmas are still brighter, darker, have higher contrast -- and they're all at least 480Hz.
So, exactly why does it matter if a TV supports DivX? The TV wouldn't playback the videos, unless it has an embedded video player (which I don't think it does).
Sounds like marketing hype to me. Appealing to video pirates. Nice.
learn to read ;)
"We've given them the ultimate convenience by building support for DivX HD playback into our digital TVs. This is another feature we've integrated beautifully inside of our TVs and we look forward to working with DivX in the future to offer even more innovative solutions that effortlessly bring HD video into people's living rooms."
Why am I so drawn to her...
Because she is an attractive woman who, by her current gestures, would like you to watch tv, rather than every other woman who thinks that when you watch tv it means you wish the be barraged by nags and annoyances.
Why do they advertise the TV supporting 240 hz? I would be happy with 29.97hz. I'm pretty sure that the human eye cannot detect 240 different frames per second.
