MSI unveils army of cheap PMPs for China
Taking a break from thin laptops and all-in-one desktops, MSI's announced five PMPs for China. On the lower end is the 198 yuan (US $29) MV622, with a 2.4-inch LCD screen, 2GB storage and three colors to choose from (pictured). The MV651 has a larger, 3-inch screen with 400 x 240 resolution, TV-out, FM radio, and 4GB capacity for 299 ($44) yuan. The MV652 adds touch screen -- the only one to do so, it seems -- and e-book reading functionality, all for a price tag of $51 for 4GB / $58 for 8GB. The 4.3-inch MV881 lacks touch screen but otherwise boasts similar specs to its predecessor -- it'll set you back $58 (4GB) to $73 (8GB). The only one sporting 720p video and S-video out is the 8GB MV882 for $58. All units support e-dictionary, some game functionality, and a hefty number of audio / video codecs. Call it a hunch, but we don't expect a good lot of these -- if any -- to be making a stateside appearance anytime soon.

$58 isn't bad at all for an 8GB PMP with 720P video output. Why can't these low cost gadgets come to the states?
I suppose it's because they stole some tech/IP to make it. I have to say, I'd pay $70 on ebay easy for the best of the lot, maybe some customers will seize the potential opportunity.
Nice...
OMG itz lookz exactlys like an iPhone!!11!!1
Just another copy ripping off the iPhone, I mean cmon it has a square screen, and look at the bezel on top be bottom I the screeen!!!!11!!
And for 58 dollars y not just put it towards apple credit and get and itouch... It's like a no brainer...
;)
Shut up.
You're worse than the real ones.
Have you not seen the river clix?
You give Apple fanboys a bad image.
The sad part is the effort they put into it.
Sad.
S-Video out?
Wow, You go S-Video. Don't let NOBODY keep you down.
They look like those fake mp3 players you get at McDonalds. I MEAN that the CHILDREN get at McDonalds...
Those look shopped. The screens are clearly faked.
I know from some pixels and from seeing quite a few shops in my day.
It looks like it is a mock up pic. Those are plastic shells with a shopped on screen. You can see there is no actual headphone jack, it is just a hole.
The Pink ones clearly PMSing.... clean yourself up babe! :(
I think I'm gonna buy like 10 of these things.
These are cool.
I would buy a few if the came stateside, no problem.
And I have customers that would love the TV out.
It's amaZing to think people will still choose to buy $229 touch over this $75.
Goes to show u desitabilty rate of apple products,
Ok I would rather get $300 touch over this $50 pmp , am I an idiot?
no your not.
Just some people who complain they might as well get an ipod touch or some other $300 media player, I say:
FINE! go with it! it works for you! I'm sorry I not like you who has $300 to spend on a media player, I'm sorry that for some people spending $200 means not having food on the table for more than two months, I'm sorry that the poor kids in school have parents who make only $8-10/hr and sometimes even less.
(I know my mom used to work in a sewing factory *cough*sweatshop*cough* in California and she would get paid not an hourly wage but per quantity. I remember her telling me it was like 6-12 cents per item of clothing and pay ranged depending on the difficulty of the sewing. Being smart you try to get the ones that give the most but don't take up too much time to sew.)
Honestly I think its great if MSI can offer something cheap and low cost. Some kids who know the value of money especially if they're poor don't necessarily want an Ipod or a touch or something too fancy and are willing to settle for the no-name brand as long as it has the functionality.
However this is nice in a way that its cheap, great manufacturer, and lower than the price point of those fake "Ipob MP4 Players" we see on ebay while having more than decent quality knowing its MSI.
They resemble Iriver's Clix!
