Laser-etched Motherboard mirror reflects art, life, and circuitry

Nonesiste's Motherboard mirror is the kind of design piece that any decoratively-inclined nerd might really want in his / her abode. Its designer, Romolo Stanco, has some really big ideas about the meaning behind the mirror, saying that "the etchings are circuits, an intersection of lines borrowed from the world of electronics, a metaphor for connections, global systems, [and] electronic systems for common use which few of us understand the real technical sense." We actually don't understand what he's talking about, but whatever: it looks pretty cool to us. Stanco's mirrors have recently been unveiled in Milan, and are limited to a run of six -- in oval (as above) and rectangle. One more shot of this handsome mirror (and man) after the break.

finally first =)
Congrads. How about concentrating on your studies and be first in class instead.
Putting on your CV "I posted my 'First' post at Engadget" is not appealing in any way to any businesses. But having top class grades, then THAT is more valuable to them.
I would only consider buying something like this if the circuit actually did something...
Actually, no. I would never buy something like this.
Comment system sucks...
And so does the 909.
Would make a better window.
Let's see, there are 6 of them in existence... "unveiled" in Milan, and come complete with overblown artist explanation... so I should expect them to be on sale for $19.99?
I think I will not be alone when I say, nay scream:
"I WANT THIS!!!!!"
I think I will not be alone when I say, nay Scream!:
I COULD BUILD THIS!
I COULD TOO!!!*
*If I had a laser etcher and knew how to silver mirrors.
@NeoJew You could use etching cream if your neighbor borrowed your laser.
etching glass is a somewhat rare artform, but I'm sure you can find one locally for a few bills
@ gingerfox
you must be upset at something.....maybe your broke or you live in north dakota or something haha
this is kinda cool i dont think i would buy it but still cool
It doesn't actually do anything though, aside from being a mirror, does it?
it has the ability to reflect light in a completely dark room - optimal for shaving and dressing
I guess not ... besides the lines must limit visibility so shaving does suck under these conditions :P
Was going to make that point. A nerd or a geek would not want this mirror. It doesn't do anything. It's not even a replica of any known circuit board. A nerd would want a replica and a geek would make his own replica mirror of a known circuit board. Ultimately both the nerd and the geek would want the mirror circuitry to actually do something. I don't get how this is cool at all.
He really didn't do a good job shaving. He still has tons of stubble even using a straight razor.
Well, they are two different mirrors, so perhaps two different men?
not
hate to spoil the fun but ... comment ...
Whoops.
Tell your Mom I'm sorry.
Oh, and thanks for last night.
Just what I want, a mirror with a bunch of fucking scratches on it.
Exactly what I was thinking. Who needs a mirror that you can't even see your own reflection in, or worse yet, have to shift constantly to see what you want.
OTOH, if this is all it takes to get your work shown in Milan I have some sketches of Hello Kitty I could etch into glass.
you know exactly what hes talking about engadget , don't lie.
lol the 909 has awesome weather!
Products like this make no sense. Do the makers of these products need to be reminded of what the point of a mirror is? What good would lines running through it all do then, obscuring your view? If it's simply art, that's one thing, but as a mirror?.. Hardly functional.
"...the etchings are circuits, an intersection of lines borrowed from the world of electronics, a metaphor for connections, global systems, [and] electronic systems for common use which few of us understand (in) the real technical sense."
If I want to ponder this, I'll read a book, write or create something on my own, or initiate a conversation with someone. In the meantime, I'll stick with my fully useful mirror.
Form follows function...unless you're the type of person who would buy this thing or, say, designer clothing. It's a topsy-turvy world we live in. I have no doubts these will sell for an unwarranted amount of money quick and easily. In a few months time, there will be knockoffs in every Wal-mart that are visually indistinguishable for under $40.
That may be, strange as it is.
I love shaving with a straight razor.
he's not shaving, he's gonna kill himself after not being able to see himself in a mirror he just spend $5K on.
I hope the company that he stole the circuits from sues him, it's original art and he stole it. (And I bet he doesn't even have the talent to design a circuit himself)
As for the reason I hope that? Because this is as fake art as it gets and as original as opening a new pizza joint.
It's almost certainly not taken from any existing circuit design. It's meant to look cool, but I think anybody who has worked with circuit boards or have looked at enough of them can see it doesn't look like a real board.
The stern look on that guys face doesnt say shaving to me... it says im getting ready to cut off my nose.
Spite is the strongest motivating force in the world.
I have finally found true love!!!
That's not a motherboard. It's obviously designed to look like the PCB from the Acme QR4a+ flux modulating waveform capacitor controller.
last
"Laser-etched Motherboard mirror-reflects art, life, and circuitry"
yo, son, either "Motherboard" needs to be lower or "mirror" needs to be upper.............case, that is. represent.
tomo
Srsly? Reminds me of the mirrors I wouldn't try terribly hard to win at the annual fair when I was a kid. Now the stretched-out Coke bottles with food-colored water inside? Those were full of awesome. This, not.
who the hell shaves with their dress shirt on?
