Video: Homebrew Batmobile ready to fight crime, compensate for your rotten childhood

Of course, the Batman Tumbler we saw a year or so ago is totally bad-ass, but sometimes you need something more suitable for black tie events: cotillions, charity functions, and so forth. This Batmobile (circa Batman Forever) is hand-built by a sculptor named Bob Causey and features a retractable hard top, a high-tech interior (including three LCD displays) and, the builder assures us, is actually road worthy. If anything, this guy should provide the perfect vehicle for your neurosis. Because, let's face it -- this whole donning Lycra Spandex and looking for people to beat up act? It's a cry for help. Video after the break.

haha sweet! remote operated hatch, I like it. Too bad it's gonna sound nothing like a screaming jet when you're driving it down the road...
:(
Me wants one for Halloween!
@haX0r
Recession antidote?
GM should make these and end the recession. :)
Compete with bat-suit nipples.
Why would you do the Batman Forever Batmobile?
Thats just odd.
Guy probably started the project when the movie first came out...
just noticed that the picture that engadget posted is different from the one in the video...
hatch, etc
Agree,
The Batman movies with Val Kilmer and George Clooney were the worst. I would still put Adam West's batman movie higher in entertainment value for sheer comedy reason.
Michael Keaton (Tim Burton directed) and the recent Batman series were much better.
I suppose someone had to like that batman movie; though it is pretty much universally agreed that Batman Forever and Batman & Robin were the worst of the series.
the tires look wrong.
THANK YOU!
BATMAN ANIMATED SERIES FTFW!
to jesusfreek, the pic is just a more finished picture of it. its the same car in the vid just in earlier building stages.
Want!
holy shit! except it looks kinda... rubbery...
It probably hasn't been painted yet, but yeah, I agree.
Once the thing gets painted and polished it'll look badass.
You ment to say, "holy bat shit! except it looks kinda... bat rubbery..."
Why choose the batmobile from the worst Batman movie ever?
That said, looks like great craftsmanship.
When is the homebrewed Batman codpiece gonna show up on Engadget?
Joel Schumacher FTL!
Batman and Robin was worse. MUCH worse. At least batman Forever had some lines that weren't puns.
And regardless of movie, the batman forever batmobile is the 2nd best batmobile design.
Nice!
Is it equipped with boosters??? You can go 120mph with that thing!
I can go 120mph in my honda accord...
But at the end of the day, it's still a Honda Accord. :-)
I can do 120 with a Toyota Corolla Wagon.
I don't think this will have the same chick-pulling potential as when it was being driven by Val Kilmer... just a thought.
Please add this to the "Engadget's recession antidote" article list. I would like to win this as a prize.
No windshield wipers?
With that weird fin in the back it looks more aquatic than batlike. Looks more like a vehicle for Aquaman, just needs green paint.
not to mention it will be stuck in his garage forever... the fin is too tall to get out of his garage door. doh! hopefully its removable ;)
Why would you want this version! The Bat-Mobile in the Keaton film was totally wicked / the best batmobile ever. With the exception of the tumbler. That car is just stoooopid awesome.
You can quite clearly see the image is a nearer to completion than the vid..
I WANT!
Yeah, something is fishy and I'm calling shenanigans. Where'd the tail fin from the pic go in the video? And that hatch does not look the same....
Can anyone confirm this?
The pictures have differences between them because of this little thing called progress. It is common to find progression when attempting to build or construct something.
@mvp LOL!!
Nice.
I'd still want the Tumbler. I'm the better racer, you see.
this looks awesome...
DUDE! This would go PERFECTLY with my plastic Batman costume I got from K-Mart 22 years ago!!
Does this mean it can scale up walls with its grapple hook : )
It's great work, but hit one bump and its over, the thing is really low to the ground. It is surely just for show. But he did a fantastic job, that's dedication.
I hope it has a retractable rear fin cuz I don't know how he expects to back out of the garage when it's taller then the garage door. This might be one of those..."oops, I didn't think about that when I was building it" things. Very cool, tho.
It's the same guy that built the tumbler. Pics on his website.

That's some low ground clearance. First speed bump is going to rip that thing all to hell and back.
Fight Crime, that thing will get stolen after 1 night in the street.
thats why you dont park this on the street...
Fugly
Actually that was the best batmobile i think cuz of that glowing Rib look....Until the Tumbler came. I wanna know who got to Drive the Tumbler at a Nascar event.
Dont think id want those bigass wings on it if im ever in a parking Garage. But for more points BUILD THE BATWING!
Yeah, the thing I noticed from the picture (not the video) is that the fin is too tall to let the machine out of the garage. That would be a really bad mistake to make. You homebrew the thing in your garage and then have to cut your house apart to get it out.
Just please no more bat-nipple suits and bat-ice skates
Sure... that's alright, but *this* Batmobile is classic: http://buybatparts.com/
Of all the damn batmobiles he could have made, he picked Batman and Robin. God, Clooney almost killed the whole series with his stupid gimmicks in that movie. It was meant to be dark but he wanted to be hilarious as shit when he ain't even funny.
Neurosis, now thats an awesome band.
Needs more nipple.
If you're in the Tallahassee Florida area, you can stop in the Tallahassee Antique Car Museum just off I-10 and see the real original of this Batmobile, along with the original Batcycle, and two other movie Batmobiles. You can also see that stupid Duck that DeVito rode around in as the Penguin. And a bunch of other cars, some very cool, some kind of weird.
The Joel Schumacher movies sucked, though.
This reminds me of the car from The Ambiguously Gay Duo.....doesn't this thing look a *little* phallic?
Truly impressive!
My pal did this one from scratch all by hand, fully drivable with a big block engine.

This is actually done by the friend of the guy who made the Tumbler. There's a gallery of pics on here of that batmobile http://www.dullam-causey.com/ and the site for the original tumbler is here: http://www.bobdullam.com/
Notice that Dullam is in both, meaning that Bob was a part of both. Really great sculpture work.
Probably can't catch anyone with those 1998 Ford Escort tires...
Why remake a car from one of the worst movies ever?
