Dell's touchy-feely Studio One 19 lands in the US and Europe
Japan got the first crack at Dell's new multitouch all-in-one Studio One 19 in March, but it's finally headed our way. As expected, prices start at $699, with a Pentium E5200 Dual Core processor, GeForce 9200 integrated graphics, a 320GB HDD, 2GB of RAM and a slot-loading DVD burner in the low-end. Built-in webcams and multitouch features are present across the board. Check out a video of the multitouch functionality after the break: nothing much beyond the usual gimmicks, though we're a fan of letting your kid lay down beats with his jam-covered fingers -- that's true love.

Everyone complaining about RSI...
Notice what's *below* the screen?
A keyboard and a mouse.
Why?
Because you don't do everything by touch. You do things that work better by touch that way. For most things, you use the regular input.
BTW, you get RSI from keyboards and mice too.
Stop thinking so bloody linearly.
I agree God forbid anyone other then Apple comes out with something new, If Steve Jobs had of unveiled this at a Mac Show you would all be wetting your pants over how good it was.
Multitouch is perfect for viewing and showing off photos and videos.
The question that you need to address is, what is the benefit is of using your fingers on the display when you already have a keyboard and mouse?
@dan
The thing is, Apple would never have unveiled this because it is a dumb idea. We all know that Apple has had this technology for years but they are not releasing a similar product because the concept is fundamentally flawed. Bad tech is bad tech no matter which company made it.
There are so many ridiculous proportions happening in this picture that it's making my head spin. Is that football really smaller than that baseball which is in turn larger than an actual car, which is like four times the size of that mini car in the lower left, but then this child dwarfs over them all with his oversized books and palm-sized basketball and mutant touchscreen drumset and muscles his way into spatial dominance!?
I HATE, HATE, HATE people leaving smudges on the screen. This is just one step further towards an everlasting nightmare.

Everyone, ESPECIALLY Engadget will be praising Apple for their "revolutionary" design when they release something like this; and they will.
I'm going to go as far as to bet that Ryan pops up to review it. Mark my words.
Somehow....it feels kinda like a kids toy
Why are so many of you assuming touch on desktops will be used for prolonged input.
You know there are non-geeks out there who use these appliances for quick retrieval of a snippet of info/queing a music album/etc. and then go on with ral lives while the appliance does it's thing in the background.
I would love to be able to walk up the computer, touch the browser icon on the desktop, touch the favourites icon on the browser and then touch "traffic and weather" on the pull down menu that automatically appeared. And then go back to making breakfast.
I cant believe not one of you thought of apps like Photoshop and Virtual Instruments. That's what excites me so much about this type of tech.
Photoshop? Really? You really think that people are going to draw on their monitor using their finger and achieve the same sort of results as we do today with either a mouse or graphics tablet? The "correct" technology for Photoshop and the like has been around for many years and it's called a graphics tablet. Multitouch displays is a technology seeking a purpose...
I just went to the Dell site and the $699 version DOES NOT include the touch screen it is $799 for that one
Great Price!
I can't empasize enough how stupid this computer is. Touchscreen on a desktop computer? Come on, FFS.
Regardless of what you think of the touchscreen, this is now the best All-In-One on the market by far. Under 1K for a Q8200 and Geforce 9400? Nothing else out right now even approaches that type of price/performance ratio.
I'm actually impressed. I don't really recommend laptops from Dell but desktops from Dell are awesome. I LOVE that desktop. If only I wasn't thirteen and if only I live by myself having an extremely successful life with lots of money :)) =)) Kidding. It reminds of the Microsoft Surface. I love this desktop so much.
How sad is it that I couldn't find this article when searching for "dell" and sorting by date. Seriously, the word has to be in the article, even if it's one of the tags? And you can't find possession-form alternates like "Dell's"?
