Vinyl record iPod touch app gives you the spins

Vinyl has been on the verge of a big-time comeback for ages now (and for some of us, it never ceased to be the format of choice anyway), so we're pretty happy to see that even the land of zany iPhone / iPod apps is no longer immune to its charms. The spinning vinyl app by Theodore Watson makes use of the iPod touch's accelerometer to control the speed that the "record" is played at. The video (which is after the break) might make you a little sick when you watch it, but it sounds great. Analog rules, doesn't it?

S-P-I-N-T-A-S-T-I-C !!!
Yeah. Until it scratches the shit out of the back..
And then flies off the table.
That better be a free app.
@Darkroom ...
Developers worked hard on this?
extremely hard... long nights, no sleep, plus all the marketing people they had to pay, yeah i see it $10. NOT.
I'm not joining this agrgument...
The dude did say "this is a little app I made this morning"...
So unless he got up really early to make it, he probably didnt loose any sleep :P
Yeah, but can you scratch on it?
Sure, I suspect there'll be plenty of scratches on the back of the iPod! ;)
Sure you could if he ups the sensitivity of the accelerometer so that a small amount of movement either left or right would give the desired effect. Nice app.
Aaaaaargh my head...
Photoshopped!
I don't get it....
ZOMG! IT SPINS!
http://img2.moonbuggy.org/imgstore/omg-it-spins.jpg
is this on the appstore?
looks like a fun thing to mess around with
never mind the guy who made it said he is trying to get it on the appstore soon
Ok I was gonna mock this app but it's too cool to be mocked.
I'm sure this is what the Apply designers had in mind when they went for the curved edges design...
Gang Starr FTW!
cool... another iphone app... yay...
That's impressive, XDA get on that.
Hmmm. Now, make a spinning case for it (Or a iPhone) with an audio jack and such... sell it for around $90 or so.
(If you can't already tell, one can't spin the iPhone/iPod with an audio jack in it. but in a custom case designed to...)
bluetooth?
lol its amazing how people dislike this phone..the content apple has alone blowzz everything out da wadar
go ahead..i know you wanna correct it
Yp great idea sweet greggo they could call it Engapple, A place to engorge yourself with Apple reviews.
WTF? Is this a gadget?
Hey engadget, why don't you go ahead and get another blog site going for apple stuff. I mean, srsly.
You mean like http://www.tuaw.com/ ?
Apparently sarcasm is a lost art.
All y'all low rankers can suckit.
How can that be sarcasm when you said "I mean, srsly."
I took you seriously.
That was disgust towards engadget, as in "srsly, stop posting this useless crap here and post it at tuaw."
Funny thing is, this post isn't even over there.
The art of sarcasm is alive and well...
... as is the art of backpedaling.
Dang, you got me. I has been expozed by the innterwebs.
Either way, you don't have to comment on these posts. Hell, you don't even have to READ them.
Why do you? Why do you even comment on them?
To spite you personally, Kizorblade.
I think it's a funny app, if useless.
Hey! let's make a story out of every new iphone app!
I am in no way defending the idea of making a story for every iPhone app, but in Engadget's defense, this story is related to another story from yesterday about something not related to the iPhone. The guy who wrote the app even stated that it was inspired by yesterday's article.
If he doesn't have some clear plastic lining on the back, that shiny metal back is done for!
how to leave nice, circular lines on the back of your ipod ;D
@sweet greggo: there is a site for that, its called the unnoficial apple weblog
cool. pretty pointless like all the other iPhone apps, but pretty cool :)
You spin me right round, baby, right round, like a record right round, right round.
This is so close to what I've been waiting for. I was hoping for an app that had a play button in the corner, then let you use the rest of the screen to scratch/mix. Regardless, nifty app!
It'll be months and months for Apple to approve this onto the App Store.
Can't you just spin the vinyl whitout spinning the iphone?
all the fun of vinyl, and none of the quality
that is a horrible app. just go get all of the real stuff you need to dj and scratch and actually do it instead of pretending like the little fanboy you are.
Not everyone wants to be a DJ. Some people just want a fun app. Grow up.
Screw putting this on the App Store; he needs to call Numark and sell them this idea.
