Drool-worthy MID concept stops us in our tracks

We see plenty of semi-yawn-inducing MIDs around the office here, and concepts are certainly a dime a dozen in this racket, but Jan Rytir's concept gave us pause. The hyper-hip look of the design makes it startling in a field not generally known for its sexiness, and the bottom rainbow colored tabs are just icing on that sexy, sexy cake. In this rendering, the whole package would measure 180 x 80 x 20mm, have a trackball on the right of the QWERTY slide out keyboard, and boast an Atom CPU, two USB ports and an SD card reader. Can somebody build this? Please? We promise: ravers everywhere will thank you. One more shot after the break

Haha, I like the closing statement of the article right before this. Nilay Patel, Laura June, fight!
It looks ok. The trackball position would bug me a lot, especially if you push down on it to click...
every pooper has a party
every party has a pooper
DO WANT
DO WANT
OKAY! We get it.
i'm not sure I like the ultra-wide screen. seems to me you'd have to scroll like mad through web pages. unless it would go vertical when you closed the keyboard, then it would be kinda cool
I also hate the ultra wide screens. Makes no sense to me. I'll wait for something closer to 4x3.
Why not stick a radio in there and make it a sexy ass phone?
It definately takes a few design ideas from the Sony Xperia I reckon.
I don't know how big the market is for ass phones, but I'm sure someone somewhere wants one.
Ha, ass phone. Reminds me of the ass fax machine:
A guy is sitting in a bar talking to his hand. The bartender asks him what he's doing and the guy says, "I'm using the telephone."
The bartender looks at him as if he's crazy and says, "No, you aren't, you are just talking in your hand."
The guy says, "No, I really am having a phone conversation--I had a micro chip and transmitter installed in my hand last week."
The bartender shrugs and goes about his business. A few minutes later the guy disappears into the bathroom and he's gone about forty-five minutes. The bartender starts to get worried so he goes into the men's room to see if the guy is okay. When he gets there, he finds the guy standing in the middle of the bathroom with both hands in the air, his pants down around his ankles and a roll of toilet paper stuck in his butt crack. The bartender is flabbergasted and so he asks, "What are you doing now?"
The guy replies, "I'm waiting for a fax."
hey at least it runs Vista
There is clearly a hot chick on the right side of the phone. I don't think I see what you see.
ravers on myspace
Well it does look fabulous, if that's what you mean.
If you think this is "sexy" i would hate to see how you decorated your apartment.
Given your taste in such things, it's difficult to take your comment seriously.
(Yes, I'm referring to your rather obnoxious avatar.)
Hey cool, something else with a 21:9 ratio screen. I'd like something that'd be able to render a full website width-wise. I don't mind scrolling, but I -hate- panning.
The only problem with these dimensions I see is with the keyboard. at this width, thumb typing is out. Too cramped for two-handed touch-typing. That leaves finger-pecking, or one handed touch-typing... :/
I've seen way better looking MIDs...
in my OWN imagination kthx.
WTF is this article? I've shat better ideas than this. The only novel concept is the fuck ugly rainbow shit at the bottom. Sorry, but that's weak, dude.
WAAYYY to be a debbie downer.
btw...this was totally done in bunkspeed hypershot
Nah. It's not crisp enough for hyperShot. I was thinking Deluxe Paint 4.
It just looks like a big phone to me, nothing too new there... What's the big deal here?
is that a vista bar at the bottom of the screen, what resolution is it meant to be?
is that a gay bar at the bottom of the keyboard, what proclivity is it meant to be?
The thing looks ugly to ne, dull grey with black keys and colors that don't fit the rest so it just inappropriately highlights its ugliness, are you guys seeing the same thing as I do or what's going on here?
This thing is hideous!
A phone running vista and somehow has enough power to process 7 browsers? yeah.. Considering the factor of how well pc's could handle vista when it was released along with the whole phones not being able to hold anything close to the specs needed to have 7~ Browsers open. Its a nice design and I really like the trackball on the number pad but the OS will never happen(This year).
Replace the Atom with an OMAP.
Remove the trackball entirely.
Put a d-pad on the face of the device.
Make it 5" x 3" with a 4.1" screen.
Put a built in HSPA modem in it.
Add a Micro-DVI-I or a mini/micro version of the Apple Display Port
And put Mer on it.
Then I'll want it.
It looks a lot like the nVidia Tegra 600 http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_tegra_600_us.html
