What better way to give you a look at Flip Video's new
Ultra HD camcorder than by reviewing it on video...
shot with the Ultra HD. The specs are simple: 720p / 30 FPS, 8GB of storage on-board, HDMI out, and pretty much nothing else. Still, a camera this cheap ($199.99) and this small definitely has its uses. Of course, you'll probably be distracted (like we were) by the bad, bad image stabilization issues. But don't just read about it -- take a look at the gallery below to scope out what the thing looks like, then watch the videos after the break to hear (and see) our thoughts, and catch the cam in some heavier -- shakier -- action. Needless to say, both videos are available in HD.
The Creative Vado HD kills the Flip Video HD and won PC Magazine Editors Choice
I actually bought one, HD Flip, and was disappointed. The video was grainy like it has plastic lens. It sounded to good to be true, HD for $200, and it was. Please don't buy it, if you do you will not be happy.

Flip's 1st HD offering was the Flip MinoHD which came out ~November of last year.
So how is this unit any different from that one?
That one was spec'ed to record about 1 hour of HD video. Allowing for variability due to compression, about how long does 8 Gig get you?
Does this one use disposable or removeable batteries or must you charge an internal battery over USB?
Why is this one around $30 cheaper? Did they give up on any features?
@robert - It's hard to tell from the website, but the Mino HD is a lot smaller than the Ultra HD. With the Mino, you are paying for the small size because the Ultra HD has more features. http://flip-video-review.com
Impressive!
Just saw these comments 2to 3 months late. I've been using the Flip Ulra HD for a nearly 3mths and am absolutely pleased with its video performance. Ben doing photography way before image stabilisation was invented so the shaking is controlled with sensible control eg tripod etc. For me the main issue is very very low microphone insensitivity. When I use this in a training session as a non-intrusive video device (convenient being able to turn off the recording indicator) the video leaps out at you but the audio is a disappointment. It seems to pick up more from behind the camera than in front the lens. FLIP tech support was not much help, insisting that I email them a video clip which at 25-odd Mb was refused by my email service. If it were not for this low mic sensitivity I'd love this device. As it is this major drawback has made me feel sorry I bought it.
