Sony debuts connected BRAVIA Z5500 LCD HDTV line
And the hits just keep on comin'. Shortly after Sony introduced its connected BRAVIA W-Series to the world, in flies yet another trio: the Z5500 line. Arriving in 40-inch, 46-inch and 52-inch models, the set boasts Motionflow 200Hz technology, DLNA certification, the outfit's BRAVIA Engine 3, its own 'draw the LINE' design concept, a 1080p panel and a CI Plus interface, which only those parked overseas will truly understand. Furthermore, there's an integrated MPEG-4/AVC HD tuner, BRAVIA Sync (HDMI-CEC), an auto shut-off function, a dedicated 'Energy Saving Switch' and -- for the first time -- AppliCast. If you're curious, the latter feature enables users to access a range of online services (RSS feeds and all sorts of other widgets) via the built-in Ethernet jack. Sony didn't bother to share a price, release date or any hope of a US debut, but we'll be keeping our eyes peeled.

Haha I'm first. No seriously when is Sony going to catch up with kuro?
Ma2T @ Apr 30th 2009 9:12AM
The Kuro is dead :/

http://www.hdtvlounge.net/sony/z5500/ Says the 40-inch will start at £1,800, and launch in June. Kinda pricey.
I think the Z5500 series is the European equivalent to the US Sony Z5100.

Waiting for an HDTV with a built-in netbook...
O_o in fact, I think modders can easily do that right now.
superhobo @ Apr 30th 2009 9:15AM
More than just a netbook, too.
Phreak @ Apr 30th 2009 9:17AM
Why bother when you can hook up your HDTV to your laptop/desktop?
superhobo @ Apr 30th 2009 9:19AM
Reduced clutter? Better integration? No driver issues?
Bert @ Apr 30th 2009 10:21AM
Phreak,
To save power? To not waste having to dedicate a PC for streaming? Do you use a pair of pliers to hold a nail while driving it in?
Man, I am glad I waited. Every day more and more candies are being added to these things!

Wow, that's not sterotypying or hateful at all. I didn't realise all Arabic/Hebrew speakers were Muslim until now.

Hentry, why don't you go find a big hold and die in it? You're a waste of space and oxygen.

Wow. Way to make a product with the exact same name as Logitech.
Hooray for calling products the same thing!

KrazyChinaMAn @ Apr 30th 2009 2:21PM
take a look at the Panasonic s1 or G10
Brian @ Apr 30th 2009 11:13AM
A dedicated 'Energy Saving Switch', you say? You mean, an on/off switch?
PowerHouse @ Apr 30th 2009 11:36AM
On a totally unrelated note, can those TV's be any smaller-looking in those big-ass rooms?
pmgehring1 @ Apr 30th 2009 12:01PM
Geez... I used to work for a Sony retailer, and I think Sony's goal is to confuse every consumer looking at their TV's. They have too many different lines with only a few subtle differences from set to set. It takes an hour just to explain the Sony's compared to each other, then another hour factoring in other manufacturers! KEEP IT SIMPLE SONY! I don't want to have an anurism trying to explain your sets!
Vidikron @ Apr 30th 2009 1:21PM
What made them go with 200Hz? 120 and 240Hz I understand because they are multiples of 24, but why 200?
joey @ Apr 30th 2009 1:34PM
i guess its because these are models for europe (other TVs there are 50hz,100hz and now 200hz.. all based from PAL 25fps), while z5100 would be for north america.
elBravo @ Apr 30th 2009 1:44PM
DLNA, MPEG-4/AVC HD tuner (that doesn't even make sense)... Am I the only one who wants to see less of this crap in a TV. Most likely, these built in solutiosn will not be as good as the solutions in the components that are going to connect to this TV (What's the codec/format support on this firmware, is music playback good, does it handle playlists? Am I going to use the built in TV decoder for half my movies, and then the PS3 for the other half and my music? Am I going to have 2 seperate ethernet cables for my PS3 and TV?) Why can there not be a good quality TV that focuses on the visual quality, but cuts cost by gutting all the shit you don't need and making it just a dumb monitor. Best TV ever would be a 52" computer monitor. Video signal goes in, picture is displayed.
Simple.
