BlackBerry Curve 8520 "Gemini" image surfaces
Well, what do we have here? The folks at Crackberry seem to have gotten their hands on a pic of the BlackBerry Curve 8520, a.k.a. "Gemini." From what we can see and from what they tell us, there's an optical trackball, dedicated media player buttons, and a "rubberized" body. Lack of 3G is a big bummer, and we're sure the non-classic trackball is gonna ruffle some feathers, but the hardware's enticing enough for us to give it a look over. Intrigued?

this is the FIRST blackberry I dont care about
This is not the FIRST "FIRST" post that was annoying
We appreciate your attempt at... um...
Just what the hell do you think you're doing son?
Didn't they teach you the first shall be last in catechism?
Second of all, RIM spits out new BlackBerry models like every couple of months. Apple puts out one iPhone a year and each is nearly the same on the outside.
are they going to phase out the trackball? :(
i personally hope they do. was getting sick of having spare trackballs on hand since they tend to die every 3-4 months for me. the optical joystick on the samsung epix isnt that bad once you train yourself to use it just like a trackball and not a trackpad or d-pad.
i'll be interested in bb's again if they release an updated 8900 with the optical joystick and 3g.
stop using the trackball to exit out of youporn after you have watched your movie. Maybe just maybe the trackball will last longer than 3-4 months.
I'm going to go out on a limb and say this is probably a low-end device.
No 3G? In 2009?
Why does RIM like to skip out on one feature everyone wants.. Its either media, Wifi or 3G apparently..
Always one short of that mark.. one would imagine they would learn by now
It's not that the company wants to omit features, it depends on what carrier agreements they have and what that carrier wants to support. For example, Verizon does not have any WiFi BlackBerry Devices...
Can you not see the 'WIFI' logo on the devices screen top right ?
Honestly, I really like this device. I like the new trackpad and really, yes REALLY like the missing 3G. 3G to me, means more to pay for the device. I hardly use 3G due to the abundance of Wifi so, if it had 3G instead of Wifi, then that, that would be a dealbreaker for me.
Did you not see the "Lack of 3G is a big bummer" in the article?
@Graham scott is not referring to this device being for verizon, which should be obvious since it also says "no sim card" on the screen.
forget the blackberry, how much did that rug set you back :)
shit i just got a 8900. now i gotta get this one! looks great!
Speaking of the 8900, anyone else find it interesting that this device has a lower model number?
No
If you have the 8900 why the phuck would you get this piece of crap? Are you mental?
Lack of 3G huh? Then this would go great with T-Mobile....J/P
Oh damn, as a Samsung optical mouse user on the Saga, that thing looks might attractive... might be time to finally file my divorce papers for WM...
would like to see how the rubberized body looks in person
I wonder how brick breaker will play with the optical track ball...
Badly. (maybe it will come with brickbreaker 2 in which you navigate your new blackberry up your bum)
mm were did i saw the same background.....it was a liked photo of a phone cant't remember the phone but do remember the background
well it the devise looks nice like it better than the bold

The bold features all you want, this one seems more a low-end blackberry or.. it just does what you expect from it. E-mail, not everybody is hot on browsing on the internet with their minuscule screen.
that is one deadly ugly phone.....
Someone from RIM with a sweet carpet has been leaking phones! This and the Niagara. I want a cool carpet, a crappy camera, and unreleased phones :(.
Um... No track ball? Stupid. Trackballs are great. But this and the storm, maybe they're phasing them out. :-(
I think I might be able to do without the trackball that might be an ok change, but no 3G!! Common RIM!
On a side note, nice rug ;)
Soooo, its a curve with optical trackball replacing a real trackball, and the newest RIM operating system. And still no 3G. Color me unimpressed.
Lack of 3g? lol 1995 called
There was not 3G in 1995, doofus.
@ Aaronwhite
Umm...I think that was the whole point?
For BlackBerries 3G actually doesn't really matter, as long as you subscribe to an actual BlackBerry plan and use the BIS/BES, which compresses everything.
"rubberized" body .. that is a huge selling feature for me; less scratches & more grip
although, yeah.. lack of 3g is bad.. its 2009.. come on already!!
Looks better than 8900 Curve...
I have used that touch trackball. Its way better then you think. It works exactly like a ball, the distance you move your finger is exactly the same and its nice and sensitive. Also, the whole pad clicks, somewhat like the thunder screen.
Finally 3G is way over-hyped. What most people actually get out of 3G is a dead battery. esp with wifi all over the place.
Actually there's one advantage of 3G that's often overlooked. The ability to transfer data while keeping the line active, so that when you're browsing and sending data you can still receive calls, much like a DSL line vs a dialup. It's not all about the speed, even basic UMTS that and it's the same speed as EDGE.
3G does not only mean HSDPA, but the providers choose to market this way since it is the most obvious difference.
Why does Blackberry have horrible product names? I mean seriously, how am I supposed to remember all of these numbers when they release a new one every month?
Why doesn't blackberry just focus on making one or two decent phones rather than making over 9000 every month that have many deficiencies?
Good looking device. I just wish they got it over with an did a curve sized device with Bold features. They have the tech. What gives RIM?
is this for kids ??
