PlayStation 3 motion-sensing controller to be shown off at E3?
It's now just over a month before Sony's E3 press event and already the rumor mill is aflutter with what the comapny's planning to debut on stage. We've already heard about PSP's apparent makeover, and now comes word from Variety that the PlayStation 3's oft-rumored motion sensing controller, closer in the vein of the Wii remote than of its relative-positioning Sixaxis pad, will be getting some time on stage. A source from Kombo late last month suggested key third-party developers have already been brought up to speed and asked to implement the functionality into their upcoming titles. Like we said, this isn't the first time we've been down this road, and it's not happened infinitely more times than has, so... take that as you will. Brace yourself, this is only the beginning of the of a flurry of game-related murmurs and speculation in the leadup to next month's conference.Read - Variety

I love my PS3 but everything you said is wrong and not in a funny ironic way either.
psthriimote?
Clever, to an extent.
I figured everyone would say Sony is just copying the Wii. Probably the biggest reason I sold my Wii was the lack of HD. Now if Sony incorporates this correctly, it could be a lot of fun.
no need for IR, just throw in the gyro sensor, plus the existing sixaxis, FPSers should be happy if it's done right(need a stick too!)
If it comes out and works....then there are good games to support it....how can anyone be negative to that. This whole stealing technology argument is silly. Did Nintendo create video games and controllers? Nintendo did take cheap existing technology to make their controller. They just happened to create a different niche for themselves with it and that's great, I hope PS3 can take it and make fun games for it (that would be a +1 for everyone).
PS4 and X720 would have had it, so I say good for Sony for getting it mid generation (if its true).
*sigh* i was gonna say the thriimote.......well, its not like sony randomly "came out of nowhere" with sixaxis right after Nintendo's announcement of the motion sensing wiimote... or anything like that ...
...so somehow, im not surprised.
We'll see how it goes...
btw....i cant believe no ones commented on the fact that this is clearly a photoshop job :P
they should do this for the ps2. I think it would be a much bigger hit given the price of 99$ and just bundle it with the system.
They sort of did, with the PS2 EyeToy. Only the EyeToy didn't use a remote, you could just point with your fingers.
Just Wow Sony. The company that says that copying an item and tweaking it a little and giving it an Apple logo doesn't make it innovation is copying from the Wii? Didn't expect this from you. Truly sad. :(
Pii-mote?
That doesn't seem to work for me. I'll stick with the DualShock 3 though flower may be interesting with a Wii Remote-like periphergimmick.
I really hope that's photoshopped, because if it isn't that's the most blatant rip-off i have ever seen in my life.
Okay, so I’m reading about how people are saying this is the end of Wii, because now PS3 has the same thing. Before you all get way too excited and show your fanboy colors, let me pull you right back into reality. The people playing the Wii are not gamers of any kind. They are grandparents, non gamer girls, aunts and uncles, these people don’t care about fancy graphics, cutting edge technology, or any of these other things the PS3 offers at the higher price points. The fact of the matter is PS3 will still cost much more, the games will still be too high budget, and the system itself is just to complicated for most of these people who are playing the Wii. I think there are very few people out there who are going to trade in their Wii for a PS3. Nintendo did the smartest thing any of these console companies could have dreamed of doing. Rather then appealing to the very small percentage of gamers, they went for the remaining 97% of the public. And this strategy paid off big time. The PS3 or XBOX360 can never appeal to this very large demographic. It simply was not designed to appeal these people, and adding a Wii like motion sensor controller to it is not going to make it happen either. Hard core gamers, are no longer important to the industry. Sony and Microsoft realize this now, and are desperately trying to get a piece of this pie that Nintendo has baked. Keep in mind that we are in year 3 now of the new consoles. Typical console life is 5 years, by the time this thing comes out, it will almost be ready for the next consoles to come out. This is simply to try and make as much money as possible before time runs out, and the clock is ticking fast for Microsoft and Sony. The next round of consoles you will be sorely disappointed in, because they will be built for the much wider, money generating public, that does not include you. Personally, I own both the Wii and PS3, I like them both, so when everyone goes the way of Nintendo, I’ll be okay, I’ll still play. It’s the hard core gamers that are going to be left out, you simply don’t generate enough money any more. And when you boil it all down, it’s all about the money.
Nintendo isn't going down without a fight...bring on the Wii HD!!!
Spelling errors galore! Fabulous guys, fabulous.
copying a design has always felt like something stupid to do unless you could do it better, but there is no shame in copying

Does this mean we'll actually get a fun sports game (NBA 2k10) with motion sensing and great great grfx? forget the war... the ps3 owners are benefitting again.
@Bugsta
I totally agree with you on almost all your points about hardcore gamers not being the money source, but I think that these gaming tycoons will do something similar to what microsoft is currently doing with the Arcade, and Elite 360's, have hardcore games buy a system thats just upgraded a little, for all the hardcore gamers that want the upgraded graphics, more memory, etc.
Nintendo may not have invented the motion control, but they brought it to the eye of the public. Sony and the rumors of Microsoft trying to hop in on this bandwagon is generaly sad in my opinion, but they are trying everything they can to get in on the money and that 97% has tons of money that they want.
As for this killing the Wii.... Are you all kidding yourselves? How many Wii's have been sold already? How can you kill a game system that has already sold that many systems. Thats pretty much like saying the IPhone is going to die because of the new blackberry.
my 2 cents.
That picture is soooooooo fake. The buttons are laid out exactly like those of the wiimote, there's no easy way to use triangle, square, circle, and X, and the person's hand isn't even even close to touching the controller.
