BlackBerry Curve 8520 gets pre-reviewed
We've been dying to know more about that crazy BlackBerry Curve 8520 with the optical trackball in place of the usual spinner, and the crew over at CrackBerry's finally posted their pre-release review. Overall, it seems like a nice enough phone, and the optical trackball apparently works well, which is a nice surprise given our experience with them. On the downside, it's not nearly as nice as the Curve 8900, and while the overall design has been updated, components like the screen, battery, and camera are carryovers from the Curve 8300 -- a particular shame considering the raves RIM's been getting for its amazing screens lately. Of course, we can't complain too much considering this thing is EDGE-only and potentially destined to be a pay-as-you-go phone, but it sure does look nice, and we're interested in seeing how this design philosophy translates into higher-end sets... like, say, the Storm 2. FIRST to say wow, a downgraded NEW blackberry
^goodbyee comment!^
@ whiteboy
ive noticed that youre always lurking, waiting for the moment to say "first".
I dont think this comes at as a surprise,
a budget blackberry is just what RIM needs, they are able to clear old technology (screens, batteries, etc) to make way for new displays, and RIM can tap into new costumes by hooking them on the crack early.
In this economy a budget blackberry is a good idea.
I've noticed that CleaverEndeavor isn't very cleaver at all. He's just a troll.
More biyatches upset because they weren't the first to post. Grow up, children. Most of you are only entitled to "sloppy second's" in real life, too.
What's so amazing about this BlackBerry dinosaur? The optical trackball? Pffft. They had to do it because the other style trackball was always getting clogged with lint and crumbs. This is BlackBerry's newest flava-of-da-month. The company that said touch-screens sucked and were useless now have a whole bunch of touch-screens in the pipeline because they fear the iPhone will steal their market share. They made a wise decision.
ugh. i hate clicking out of engadget for a review. just copy it and post it here.
Yeah, that's not unethical or in poor taste at all.
i find your comment to be in poor taste. and unethical.
it was a joke. lighten up
edge only come on it's 2009 and all major us carriers now have 3g networks there is no excuse for a smart phone not to have 3g and also wifi.
This is a low end blackberry not really meant for data heavy users.
Business users don't use pay as you go phones. People with bad credit, or don't use a cell phone much, and drug dealers use pay as you go.
i use pay as you go and am not any of those things. i use it because i don't like contracts .....i have commitment issues :(
I miss the track ball thingy... its funner
thats what she said.
I see you're not as clever as your name implies.
LOL Metkis. All of his posts are like that .
A pay-as-you-go Blackberry would be a good idea!! Still needs 3G or at least wifi though.
It's got Wifi, just no 3G
I looked carefully at the video and did see when he scrolled through it, it said "EDGE, wifi". But he didn't seem to mention wifi in the written review(unless I overlooked it) so I thought it had none. Sorry about that.
The bad thing is he showed the screen of the 8900 next to it and 8900 looked so much better, now I don't know if I could even consider this one. Maybe if they really will allow BB "pay as you go" at a decent price.
See how easy it is to NOT copy the iPhone? I don't understand why everyone follows iPhone's revolutionary touch screen user interface, when this blackberry design suits them just fine.
forgive me if i'm wrong but isn't a review prior to release a preview, not a pre-review? just seems like bad grammar to me. (says the man who uses no caps...)
Wow, looks very cool. Lacking features but looks great.
Marlo Stanfield and String Bell would be all over these.
shhhhhhhhhhhhhit
What?! Pre? Where?!
I like my Curve 8330 a lot, but the trackball does get wonky sometimes. I'm happy to see them experimenting with an optical version. Let the EDGE users work out the kinks, and then we'll see it move on to the other lines.
Pre-review? Shouldn't the correct wording and grammar be Preview?
