Schmartz PS3 IR-to-Bluetooth adapter adds PC control
We're more or less waiting on the Logitech Harmony Adapter for all our PS3 IR-to-Bluetooth needs, but if you're impatient Schmartz has revved up its PS3IR. In addition to the usual IR control, the new PS3IR-1000 also comes with a Windows app that allows you to control your PS3 from the desktop over USB -- we're not sure we need it, but if you've got a crazy home-automation rig or something it could be useful. $79, available now.

YEAH!!!
For those of you waiting for the Harmony adapter for the PS3, just go out and buy a MadCatz IR remote control. It has a small USB dongle that plugs into the PS3. You can then ditch their crappy remote -- the Harmony remotes know how to control this device. I use it on my PS3 and Harmony 660 remote and it works great!
control my PS3 from my PS3 via USB? Do I plug in the A to the PC, B to the device, and then it uses bluetooth?
...allows you to control your PS3 from the desktop...
PC, not PS3
That thing is ugly looking when comparing it to the Harmonix Adapter. Wow.
May the Shmartz be with you
Let's see... rectangle, rounded corners, no buttons, an icon encased in a square with rounded corners...
ZOMGRG!!!!! IT'S A COMPLETS RIPOFF OF THE IPHOENZZ1!!!!!
Meh, I rather wait for the Logitech adapter that will be out out this month and cost $59.99. Info was leaked by Best Buy when they posted the item on their site.
It saddens me to see the masses so habitually keen to neuter the BT control on their PS3's when we should instead be lamenting the persistence of IR sensors used in all other consumer goods, and converting all of that kit the other way!
In my opinion IR is right up there with the VGA port as something that needs to collect its coat and say its long overdue 'good byes'.
/unrelated and inebriated rant
Agreed! Where's the Bluetooth Harmony remotes, with BT-to-IR adapters? I'm tired of having to hold my remote at a weird angle so all my equipment can get the signal.
I concur
Sorry, but no. IR doesn't require the device(s) to be paired constantly, sucking energy the entire time.
with a name like Schmartz it should have a model number schfifty-five (http://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/schfiftyfive)
