iPhone OS 3.0 beta 5 now available

[Thanks to everyone who sent this in!]
Update: We can confirm that MMS "support" can no longer be turned on in Settings (in quotes because we could never get it working in previous betas anyhow), and we're hearing that trickery that allowed tethering to be enabled with the previous iTunes 8.2 build has been patched. Aww, you're no fun, Apple... thanks, Rene!

I'm hearing that MMS is gone from this release...
Blame them:

Dont shoot the messenger!
its working fine on mine
Yeah. Using your first name is much more original and exciting!
No.
@ Greg... please explain the different levels where Eminemdrdre00's user name is wrong.
You all could have look into it before you low ranked the dude, he's right.

Wow, he got lowest ranked but he was right. I have no MMS anymore.
No, it's just that the firmware checks if you have MMS on your plan, which is disabled by all AT&T iPhone users by default. That's why it still works for some; they had MMS enabled on AT&Ts side for whatever reason.
MMS not actually work in DK on TDC's network! It's a first!
DAMN!
can't whait to know how good it'll be ....
Fail.
supprise
balls!
I am on ATT and I still have MMS and it works with the new beta.
and tethering?
ya, I have beta4 and tehtering works. is tethering really gone?
no need for me to use beta 5. I'm sticking with beta 4...!
What are your MMS settings?
I got MMS to turn on in beta 5 but I had to upload a carrier settings file after updating that I had working beta 3. Due to "can not activate cellular" error, I restored the carrier file to it's original settings.
Shilo
so there is no advantage updating my iTunes if I don't have an iPhone?
If you don't have an iPhone, I assume you don't have an iPhone developer account, so you can't update iTunes anyway. These are betas for developers to begin working with iPhone OS 3.0.
Yes the Internet Tethering option is still available under the Network option.
Is a) this still there and b) Does it work on Windows. I'm looking at getting a new iPhone later in the year, but it MUST be able to be tethered for me to even consider the phone as its a must-have for me.
nope.
I wonder what this beta has hidden it it...
A f*cking unicorn, obviously.
Ah! Need torrent!
I thought you still needed to be in the dev team to use 3.0 beta even with torrents
The problem I have with the download is that it logs you out after a day or so, and you can't continue (**) and on my crap connection it takes more than that to download. And I have connection interruptions ever 20 minutes or so. So a torrent is much better, I can just leave it running and eventually it will finish.
(**) You can actually continue, here's how: Download the file. Once it's stopped, try continue. If that doesn't work, go to the website and start downloading it again, but stop immediately once the second download has started. Then go back to the old partially downloaded file and try to continue - now it works. Took me too long to figure out though.... and a torrent is still better.
blood
need link to torrent to download please!! anyone! thank you!
Only update is the StoreKit classes (SKPaymentQueue.h, SKPaymentTransaction.h) which allows in-app purchasing.
I wonder why they stopped the bi-weekly update? Release is near?
My bets:
* Announce a few more features from iphone 3.0 that are not in the betas at WWDC (video capture, voice dialing)
* Announce release date for 3.0
* Probably will be released when the next iphone ships
MMS is indeed turned off in this release. No option available in the settings panel at all.
do you have a link for a torrent to download?
Did you do a clean install or restore from backup? I restored from backup and MMS is still there for me.
re-update your carrier package
is the pre-release of itunes the same exact version needed last time or do I need an updated version of the pre-release?
The pre-release iTunes version for beta 4 was 8.2.0.10 and for beta 5 it is 8.2.0.13. I just went ahead and installed the newer iTunes.
does anyone know if it matters? cuz i dont have the link to download the new version OR the new build yet, and its a pain to get both
There's no difference in the iTunes 8.2 beta, the one I use for the 3.0 beta 4 worked fine for beta 5! Here's a site that has ALL beta's (it will be updated as more are released) for All devices and the iTunes beta for Mac and Windows: http://imodzone.net/download/
Good Luck!
beta 6!
breaking? really?
I don't think so,,, I have beta 4 installed and I don't think a week's work really makes that much of a difference,, maybe wait two more days and install beta 6 one shot
MMS is indeed missing and tethering is no-where to be found. At least for me.
Look in settings, general, network and at least on mine you get internet tethering.
sweet - ran my phone through the washing machine tonight! New iPhone and software can't come quickly enough for me. :-/ (June, not July, please....)
I can't wait for this.
you'll need to update your carrier settings to activate tethering and mms...
