Sony Reader: Danielle Steel edition available now for suburban escapists

It's been a wild day so far for all you Kindle fans, but Sony doesn't want you to forget that it has a little e-reader of its own. And since the company knows how you can't resist a good romance, it's now bundling the Reader with (count 'em!) three books by Danielle Steel. That's right, Danielle Steel: the one woman single-handedly responsible for bringing the glamor, the fame, the triumphs, and the heartbreaks of the imaginary jet-set to your seat on the bus as it takes you to your lousy retail gig every morning at 6:30 AM. Not only is her name embossed on the e-reader's elegant red cover, but the whole shebang comes with a personalized form letter from the bestselling author herself. This bad boy is available to the Lifetime Network-set as we speak for a cool $279.99, so grab your plastic and hit that read link.

Wow, I had to double check that this wasn't sourced to the Onion.
I don't get it.... why?
I kinda like the red. Don't care bout those pack-ins, but I may have to get this... Sony's Reader is a lot more desirable than the Kindle to nerds/geeks like me who value open products over branding.
Keel over Kindle, Sony upped the ante and dropped the price.
No, its 3$ pricier on Amazon... it was 269$ last week. Still I think the prs-505 is a really good deal and way more elegent than the Kindle.
What has Sony done to make it proprietary? It can't be a Sony without an annoying proprietary feature like a Sony memory stick.
I think it has both SD and memory card slots.
Its the opposite, Kindle is all closed, The sony is famous for all the format you can read. You can download any free books from the web and it will work. No conversion needed.
You mean closed and locked down? Like that other reader that Oprah has? Take a closer look, because the Sony Reader is actually pretty open with regards to what you can do with it.
Why didn't they have a University unveiling for this bad boy?
I have the PRS-505 and use Calibre to handle any e-book format. Best birthday present ive ever received. Wouldnt mind if it had a larger screen but at the end of the day i dont have to deal with Amazon.
I don't get the Danielle Steel embossing on the cover, people would think that the reader is stolen from her.
Yes. That's why I always think people are stealing cars from that "Ford" guy.

Yeah, and I stole my pants from some dude named Levi.
Damn it all... Taylor got there before me.
sony = slow
no Whispernet no care.
I think Sony is going in the right direction for a change.
We need cheaper ebook readers rather than bigger ones that are much too expensive: http://www.tech-no-media.com/2009/05/amazon-kindle-dx-ebook-reader-is-nice.html
Say wha...?
hopefully it's squirt-resistant.
i would really prefer the DX (except its way too pricey) having used the Kindle 1. i also bought a 700 series sony for my dad ... take my word for what its worth, you need bigger screen for any technical document... its very similar to a book. how many paperback do you see for say statistics that come out in the 'standard novel' size ... btw, i sold my kindle for the very same reason ... also in the market are the less known ones .... like BeBook (and clones -- not sure if this itself is a clone) .... psr 505 is the best in my opinion for casual reading .... any technical docs or books and you need the DX (and i hate it that amazon has a kill switch).
