I probably won't win, but allow me to give 2 cents about the economy.
The problem is that the American workers are TAPPED OUT and that corporations have to move jobs to other countries to find people THAT THEY CAN EXPLOIT.
Americans are accepting increasingly shitty wages and increasingly meaningless jobs in the service sector because that's all that we are being left and the corporations focus on making profit - has them refusing higher wages and cutting people whenever it suits them.
The only way to fix our economy is to produce again. America doesn't produce anything worthwhile and our auto market is in the toilet right now - though FORD is making huge gains.
We need to be able to produce and sell everything that every other country does, but at higher quality. We can no longer simply sell "the american way of life" to other countries cause its price is going down. By that I mean our cultural goods such as McDonalds and our television/movie merchandise.
We MUST ensure that everyone is actually paying their taxes. EVERYONE. We need a FLAT tax because it is the only fair tax. If anyone tries to cheat, especially corporation - then they will be heavily fined or possibly sanctioned in AMerica. NO CORPORATION WANTS TO LOSE AMERICA AS A MARKET. They WILL cooperate.
Though many right wingers want to do away with social security, because it is a large chunk of America's money, I say we must have it to protect the elderly and disabled.
Military spending is a small portion of our budget. Even if this country was pacifist, we'd still be spending huge amounts on other things. Socialism isn't all bad, but it can go too far and become a ridiculous hinderance to our prosperity.
I say we need: Flat tax Smaller government less discretionary spending less corporate welfare (or none) redesign of our immigration policies. AN END TO WELFARE Consider EXILING criminals and illegals who commit crimes protection for our borders.
yes please. I can think of a million uses for this! Like use it in my digital camera, or move pictures or video from my camera to my laptop...ok, I only thought of 2.
lol. Love the $5 economics course. Too bad your list doesn't have any good ideas in it. They're neither new nor original, and most of have tried with poor results. But I'm sure you have an explanation/rationalization for that. Go back to school.
don't need a memory card, but thought i would reply to quantumphysic's thoughts on america's economy:
the fact of the matter is, china and japan have electronics covered. we can't compete with them, they got all the low-cost of living nations right there next door to make parts for them, plus they have a more culturally oriented manufacturing force (they reward and recognize hard work). the only place we really shine is innovation. we're good at invention and hacking stuff together to make new interesting products, but once we do it's right back over to that side of the world for manufacturing. unless we're looking to drastically revamp our culture, i think we better stick to our strengths which are the application of new technology, networking and application development, and as sad as it may sound, the entertainment industry.
Anyone notice that Engadget didn't state the approximate retail value of these cards? They must finally be running out of stuff. They were giving away a Sonos system last week. Now 4 GB SD cards. FOUR GB. Is the recession nearing an end?
A memory card would be nice. One place to start is for the government to stop bailing out companies that are headed for bankruptcy. It is up to companies to innovate and survive on their own, otherwise we end up with 'federalized' industries -- or waste our children's and grandchildren's tax dollars bailing out companies that were destined to fail anyway.
Now that we've thrown 'em off the trail, use the form below to get in touch with the people at Engadget. Please fill in all of the required fields because they're required.
