ASUS Eee PC 1008HA Seashell unboxed, deemed the slimmest, sexiest model yet

We've seen a lot of ASUS' Eee PC 1008HA Seashell in recent days, and now the thin little fella's been unboxed for all to admire. If the details have already slipped your mind, recall that the Seashell boasts a 1.6GHz processor, a 160GB hard disk, and GMA graphics. The glossy, tapered edges of the 10-incher are looking pretty fine if you ask us, furthering our opinion that the 1008HA is a stylish piece of work. The newest addition to the Eee PC family will be available as of May 15th in the UK for £379 (about $565). One more shot after the break, and hit the read link for the whole, glorious set.

If only the border around the display weren't so huge, it would be much better. But a great start.
Yup, ive said it before - please work on technology to irradicate bezels, you never see "futuristic" things with huge bezels.
please fix the read link

Eh, it's still decent sized.
i want
As an Apple fan, even I can appreciate this model. Quite sleek.
i love apple because i love symmetry and durable materials.
this is great because of those reasons.
I don't really have a need for a machine in this segment, but as far as netbooks go, this one looks pretty slick. I'd imagine that it would be even hotter if the outside casing was matte though. So many fingerprint magnets out there these days.
But people have always told me that I am the sexiest, thinnest model yet!
No. More. Glossy.
Is it just me or does it look like an HP Mini 1000
I was thinking the exact same thing...
WHY the color?? kinda ugly
Color looks OK.
I just cant stand the Eee PC logo.
Yeah I hate the Eee too.. I guess thats what skins are for.
The Eee line will probably go down in history as the most inconsistent series ever.
$565?
Yowza. Is it possible to get size comparison between that and the Adamo or the Air? Relatively speaking the price isn't that high but this is a far way from the $299 netbooks started out at.
Yeah - my original Eee cost me $399 when the devices first came out. Size and price were two of the major things that attracted people to them - and both have been abandoned by ASUS and others. Netbooks now seem to cater to optically-challenged touch typists.
Thanks to the licensing demands of Microsoft XP, all netbooks are pretty much of a kind hardware-wise - and so when Dell can announce a $299 Inspiron Mini 10, one feels that with a $565 Eee, ASUS is hoping to get spillover from the Apple 'form over function' crowd.
Definitely not going to be $565 in the 'real' US.
These netbook prices are really getting out of hand.. Tack on an extra $200 and you can get a fairly powerful desktop replacement at wal mart
Or get a refurbished one for around $160 (http://sellout.woot.com)
As nice and lush as this is, I really don't see the point in ANY netbook at the moment, because as Windows 7 comes out in October, everyone will have one of these on the Christmas list with Win 7 installed, so long as you can juggle your 3 programme limit.
So nice lush looking laptop, not worth buying until end of the year IMO.
why is it seem that all people care about is how pretty a computer is these days?
color? ITS BLACK!
whats wrong with that, it looks like itl get the job done, and looks good.
what else do you need to ask for? pink bunnies and apple logos?
it is rather pricey though, considering i got my Thinkpad X200 for 830$ and... it would seriously own this little eepc
~$490 for the US, remember that includes our VAT at 15%.
Battery not replaceable by the end-user. Must send it back to Asus, iPod style, to get the battery replaced. Might be a deal breaker.
Wow, this is a massive ripoff of the macbook air, down to the tapered edges. I wish ASUS was innovative, like the unibody aluminum construction of the macbook air.
Oh yes - and ALL laptops are a rip-off of the wonderfully hinged MacBooks. I mean, after all - couldn't they figure out some other way to make a portable computer? And how come they all have to copy the MacBook's mouse track pad? Couldn't they figure out some other way to move a pointer on the screen? And why is it all computers have to copy Apple's idea of putting windows on a computer screen and buttons that you have to click with a mouse? Couldn't those PC companies come up with another kind of interface rather than copying Apple?
TORN DOWN!!
if you look closely @ the touchpad there is no defineable touchpad area it's all solid. The only place you can see a cue for the touchpad is the unibody left and right click button. it's a well known that apple's touchpad click button are single clicks only and do not support left or right click hence no copy.
This man has giant hands!
He must be huuuuuuuge!
way to go ASUS!!
Like the looks, but the chipset should be update ...
Should be using duel atom CPU and a better graphics
chipset too. Also, they should add a sim slot for
more memory too ...
So you can wipe your butt with three of these?
Are the specs on these things going to improve after Windows 7 comes out and the demand for XP goes away? I have to assume that they're all identical right now to meet those goofy "maximum specs" to get a netbook XP license from Microsoft.
Why the hell is there 3 pictures of the box and 1 crappy angled picture of the actual computer???
i know right. thats irritating. its like going to Jerusalem and not checking out the sexeteria
In this article:
Pictures of nettop that's not the T91/T101H
*yawns*
The pricing on the T91/T101 is going to be the scary part. Higher, with cheaper internals. You really pay for the touchscreen.
The asus t-series do make an affordable interactive alternative e-book reader to the kindles or the prses...
it looks great.. i'm rockin' the 1000h right now.. and it would be a slcik move to something just a little less hefty. netbooks are going to be the future of laptops.. i've said it before.. and i'll keep saying it till they come up with some sort of sick folding 11" dual touchscreen super-book (trademark by the way.)
on an unrelated note everyone rent "special" with michael rappaport.. it's the new hotness.
looks nice... but i wouldn't give up my eee pc 900ha for it.
Yep, this sure is good looking... except it has all the same internals as every other netbook, yet costs more and has less battery life (and non user-replaceable battery).
I think the 1002ha looks a lot better, but for some reason, engadget hated it.
And this is when i start buying the older models for half price
i would take off the eee pc logo,1 cm bezel, option for matte or high gloss,20 shades of color and got a winning pc in ur hand.
2.0ghz dual atom + ion + 1366z768 + lose the logo = perfect.
To have some easy Internet access when travelling in the hotel, ME WANT.
Eee really needs to up their brand development, their logo is very off-putting no matter how sexy it looks.
Looks very nice although they wont have much space to move on price with the more powerful HP DV2 hitting the store shelves
i think this is a great netbook. my wife has a G4 macbook and it's reaching it's end. she doesn't use it for much honestly, and a netbook is all she needs. i'm a little disappointed about the shorter battery life compared to the 1000HE, but i don't think it's a deal breaker. the extra 30 bucks is a small price to pay for the design. it keeps it from looking cheap. the VGA dongle is stupid, but for her that won't be used a lot, only for work now and then. i would like there to be a matte finish on the body. plus i would like it to come with the max amount of ram. i don't know anyone that doesn't have a netbook and hasn't upgraded the ram. it's annoying for all netbooks.
