Canon's PowerShot D10 adventure cam shot with a bazooka in this in-depth review

The gang at Photography Blog have got their hands all over the PowerShot D10, and it looks like Canon didn't fare too badly with its first "adventure camera." Even if the reviewer didn't really drop it from a helicopter or shoot it with a bazooka (as we had originally hoped) the unit was found to be as intuitive, sensible, and dependable as the company's other point-and-shooters. Of course, a device with this robust of a design is going to suffer in a few areas, and the 3x, 35-135mm zoom lens and 2.5-inch display can easily be considered "rather hum-drum" for a camera in this day and age. That said, the lens is "quite fast," great for underwater use, and the display is bright enough for all of your spelunking needs. The verdict? If you're going to be dropping from airplanes or scavenging sunken treasure (actually, make that "reading on the beach" and "taking the kids snorkeling") this summer, you could do worse than shell out $329.99 for this bad boy. I can't help but notice how sexy that camera looks.
I thought it looked like a toy.
All it needs is a spoiler and cold-air intake... maybe some neon.
you forgot the 24"s LOL
It looks like my Kodak Easyshare CX7330. My first camera, in 2004.
This is old, I saw this a month ago in Gadget Show Live in Birmingham..
oh fuck off...i didnt goto the gadget show, i didnt see it...the world does not relvolve around you
I have an idea. From now on, Engadget should contact every registered member and ask them if they've seen something before posting an article about it.
Then you won't ever have to suffer the indignity of seeing or hearing about gadgets or technolgy a second time.
I would not say that if it would be like a week or little more, but 4 weeks passed... that is pretty slow...
and cube I am not gay.. so I won't fuck off you..
@Dkings response #2
I said fuck off...as in go away.... i never said anything about wanting to have buttseks with you..
I agree this has been on Canon website for ages, I look to Engadget for the info I cannot get anywhere else, speed it up
Did you guys read the article? The review -which is what they're linked to and writing about- was published today, not "ages ago".
Smarten up.
Also engadget's record is posting stuff from 4 years earlier I think, a month is nothing :)
I like this just for lazy days at the beach. Sand gets everywhere even with the mildest of breezes. I wish more gadgets could be cleaned by rinsing under a faucet and safely dropped on the ground.
Eh, looks more like a Fisher Price camera to me. I think Olympus makes much better rugged cameras with a greater feature set.
Pentax Optio W60 FTW.
And that's coming from a long-time Canon fan.
After searching for a non-existent release date, my wife found someone who actually had these in stock yesterday, but she missed the UPS delivery today. Damn...
Well, it may have been at a show, but has not been available for consumers. I pre-ordered it in April from Amazon, but they still do not list it as in stock! Takin this to Maui with me in June for some scuba and snorkeling pics, so I hope it works as advertised!
Try Butterfly Photo in NJ, they had 10 in stock as of yesterday. (9, now that they shipped ours!)
thanks theyer... But I got a month til I leave... plenty of time!
Cool, we're also off to Hawaii with it, but needed it for next week. If it matters, it was $5 cheaper there...
Haha! I hate missing UPS deliveries... you should call UPS and see if you can pick it up after hours. Our local one lets you pick up btwn 7:30 and 8. I know this because I am like a little kid with my toys... I want them NOW!
And Olympus with xd interests me not one bit. SD is more universally usable!
Bought the Olympus today. Would have gladly bought the Canon instead if it seemed more like a camera and less like a fisher price toy; and if it would actually fit in a pocket without producing an odd bulge ... hear that Canon? Underwater Elph would be nice ...
I despise XD as much as the next guy, and Olympus tries to make up with it by adding MicroSD - like I want to fumble with a bread crumb into a card reader. That being said, the camera came with a 2GB XD card providing 400+ shots at the highest resolution / lowest compression; which is all I need as I'll stick with my real cameras for more serious shots.
I would love to see automatic geotagging built into this. Apparently that feature is too new.
Too expensive to include it for the
..< 1% that would be willing to pay extra for it I'm guessing.
I can understand removing HTML tags engadget/blogsmith, but to remove anything after any single less-than sign.. is idiotic.
Note to other posters: I used an ampersand sign followed by lt to fix it and it worked in that it was replaced with the less than sign! Good to know that at least works.
I wish I had this on my honeymoon in Cozumel. The disposable underwater camera's suck balls. Does not do the colorful fishies justice!
This is GREAT news! I've owned 4 Cannon Digital point and shoots for the simple reason that they have the best manual options available, the best image quality and the simplest user interface going... the only knock has always been how flimsy they are, hence me needing to replace my camera - on average - each year. This is a step in the right direction. Too bad that it's so thick though, 5cm is twice as thick as my current camera and, I have to say I think the styling is a little foolish... then again I always appreciate a classically clean design.
UGLY body. Recently got the DMC-TS1 for my upcoming trip to Hawaii; I like Canon, but the thing looks like a toy, and for any other use than underwater shooting (ie most use for a every-day snapshot camera) its looks are embarrassing. Too bulky as well.
