Nokia XpressMusic 5900 leaks out?
Sure, this could just be a really nice KIRF, but we've got a hunch these pics of an upcoming Nokia XpressMusic 5900 are the real deal -- it's just too understated to be shanzhai. Compared to the 5800, the updated handsets are said to feature a slightly larger 3.5-inch display, a five megapixel camera, and more or less the same build of S60 5th edition, all in a slightly thinner case. That's all we know for now, but we're told we'll find out more soon -- keep it locked.

Hopefully its got a capacitive touchscreen or whatever it is my iPod Touch has.
I'm no Nokia hater, I love my N95 and wouldn't swap it for an iPhone in a million years. But the 5800's touch screen is pathetic compared to my iPod touch, sorry.
Shame, because a Symbian phone with a quality touchscreen would be amazing. Hopefully something this, the N97, or Omnia HD can fulfill.
Meh, then you wouldn't be able to use a stylus, though... (or, at least, a stylus with a narrow tip- there are capacitive styli but I haven't seen any that aren't fat)
This is my point exactly. How pathetic nokia n95 can't even replace an iPod
That's y this nokia user had to go out n drop $300 on an iPod touch,
As long as the masses r paying $300 for iPod , iPhone will continue to be the top dawg.
Don't believe me ask this nokia owner.
Pathetic carries cell in left pocket n iPod in other,. What a dee dee deee!
I had a nokia N95 8 GB, but I sold it because I got tired of the software. It was so boring an dull looking, plus the damn software updater would never work. However, I never had any problem with the phone itself, it worked as was advertised.
HAHA, a stylus? loser
Wow a nokia fanboy that uses $300 iPod touch to browse on full HTML n to listen to musicn email.
N nokia to make calls.so 2 devices .unbelievable!
You don't need capacitive screens all the time, it largely depends on how well it's made, the 5800 for instance is crap, yet the N97 is good, read the reviews and that's what they say. You can do multitouch on both screen technology's but only handwriting recognition on resistive screens.
There are capacitive phones that have crap touch screens, the reviews for instance label the original Samsung Tocco as being one.
So it's more to do with Apple actually first making an incredible finger friendly interface then making a VERY god touch screen to go with it.
Symbian still provides handwriting recognition and so a stylus and so they tend to use capacitive screens but as I said, the N97 has a very good responsive screen.
It's a bit pointless.
but surely will be a ripoff.
that 5800 was the most f@rked up pricing i have possibly ever seen. The Xperia X1 and Touch HD are eons better priced then that fat POS.
I Completely Agree. First let me say i'm not an iphone fanboy, but what apple has is there limited upgrading per year. I was going to get the XM5800 but i was afraid of this. Nokia upgrades phones far too often instead of focusing on one. Hopefully the N97 will remain the big dog for at least 6 months because honestly im tired of upgrading a specific series of a phone.
"because honestly im tired of upgrading a specific series of a phone."
Nice to hear a Nokia executive comes to your house every 6 months and points a gun to your head, forcing you to buy a new one.
Problem pricing? I don't know where you guys from, but in half of the modern world, the 5800 is free with contract and refunds, and I'm not talking about crazy contracts, normal average contracts with average minutes and average dataplans.
@Patrickwatever
I Know, don't you just hate it when that happens?
Very intelligent comment I must say.
If this is a real new picture, you can count at least six months before you can buy it, probably more. It takes six months or more before you can buy a Nokia product after announcement, and as this hasnt been announced...
@sean
It was, actually. He was just using sarcasm.
What he meant was, when you said "because honestly im tired of upgrading a specific series of a phone." you made it sound as if you were forced to upgrade. If you're tired of doing it why are you still doing it? Why are you angry that companies are offering more products? Would you rather they hold back so you can feel like you've got the best phone out there for just a little bit longer?
Its like buying a graphics card and 3 months later saying "I'm tired of upgrading my graphics card this is bullshit!". You bought what you thought was worth it 3 months ago. It doesn't make your product any worse when better stuff comes out, you're just showing that you're an uneducated consumer in a market that changes its products monthly.
Look, i completely understand what you are saying but you are missing my overall point. First of all, I have an iphone, and what I am saying is that these constant upgrades of phones stir not only me but many people away from companies that do this. Ofcourse people have many choices on what company they will decide to trust. And in regard to his other comment about "forcing" a person to upgrade, it actually does. For instance, I had a Sony p1i, and I got it as soon as it reached the american marcket. What happened to me like 1 month later, all this hype about the Xperia came around the corner that it distracted sony from supporting the CURRENT model. But it is not like this for the Iphone or even the G1. They do not hype or release mobile devices (maybe not G1) until a while after a new release.
@ sean.
it's becoz they need to constantly innovate and and differentiate their products to appeal the masses,
not like apple where ppl will buy crap just becoz they think that it's supposed to be cool, inspite of a gazillion restrictions and incompatibilities just becoz of the hype.
Nokia rocks !!
I'm not buying it. (it being an authentic Nokia device that is)
I have a hunch that your hunch is incorrect.
The question mark is an extremely power piece of punctuation eh engadget? It says...we want to keep updating our blog, but we also want to cover our ass and not report false information. Good solid post!
Looks like N97 without qwerty. Awesome.
I will put my left ball on this being bunk. Especially not looking like that.
5850?
I've seen many a fake "Nokia" phone—"Chinaphone" is the more benevolent term they use here—and that looks like a "chinaphone" to me.
You'll notice the memory card flap says T-flash. Nokia wouldn't do that.
Its a fake.
Even if it's the real deal, it's still an iPhone KIRF.
And Nokia will replace those metallic areas with cheap colored plastics.
BTW, for those of you who do not know what shanzai actually means, I'll give a short explanation.
Shanzai is a reference to a fort built on a mountain. Traditionally in ancient China, these are the places where robbers and highwaymen lived. I can only guess that the reference must be made towards these folks.
Looks like the bastard offspring of a 5800 and the LG Arena to me...
I call shenanigans!
Yes that front picture looks damn much like Arena just without front camera.
Wow a new xprs already, nokia admits it sucked.
3.5 inch. Capacitive iphonelike ,so they acknowledging iPhone superiority.
They simply had to go back to drawing board, nokia still 2 years behind.
So, Apple's releasing a new iPhone this year? Must be admitting the current one sucks.
@Epsilon-Not
LOL
@Guru
"nokia still 2 years behind"
Yea and Apple 5 years.
This might be fake, cuz I don't see nokia releasing a phone without a front facing cam... The current 5800 xpress music, is selling at a higher rate than the iphone in the rest of the world. Just because it isn't that popular here in the U.S doesn't mean the 5800 wasn't a success. Infact it was awarded the best selling music player in the UK, beating the ipod clasic, ipod touch and iphone. Here is the link
http://www.symbian-freak.com/news/009/04/5800__best__selling_portable_mp3_player_in_uk.htm
hhmmm.... looks familiar *cough*LG ARENA*cough*
Hey!
I already said that, stop stealing my posts! D:
And @Paul:
Yes, that reminds me, if this really were such a high-end phone, it would've had a front-facing camera.
My kid would definitely go for this.
It's shanzhai (山寨)
It means a stockaded village or a fenced hamlet.
look like iPhone hahaha
And Iphone looks like an LG phone you ihomo!
NokLa strikes again.
But seriously, I think this might be the real deal. Those patterns are already on the back of the silver E71. No reason they won't do it on this. The specs, if true also fit a new iteration. Time will tell.
And btw, the comment-ers at Engadget have touched a new low. Congrats.
Looks like a "Nokia" (or is it "NokLa") nametag on top of an LG Arena..
I reckon its a fake... But I hope not..
is it 5800 with capacitive touch and 5 or 8 Mp cam???? nice to hear . hope it should be true..
or atleast nokia should think about it.............
Captive touch, ditch the stupid stylus , improve the OS
Time to quickly sell the 5800 it seems—to fund the N97 of course :D
Very Very good looking mobile, but there is the flash??, & what we realy want is Xenon Flash, Come on Nokia give me a good reason so sell my N82, I want a Touchscreen but there is no smartphone available that can come anyware near the the qualify of the N82 indoors or at night thanks to the Xenon flash.
Please touchscreen & xenon flash.
This better be a huge upgrade from the 5800 otherwise I'm not interested. Moreover, it looks as though this would be set for a Fall '09 release, so I'm skeptical as to whether it can even stack up to the Sony Idou (which is also set for a Fall '09 release). We shall wait and see.
