Samsung announces 70 Series HD monitors and TV

We've seen plenty of Samsung LED HDTVs get pricing and availability in the last week or so, but that doesn't mean the party stops there. If you're in the market for a display for your PC, both the P2370 (23-inch) and P2070 (20-inch) sport a 50,000:1 contrast ratio and 2ms video response time. While the latter is definitely the runt of the litter, at 1600 x 900 screen res, the former rocks full HD (1920 x 1080) resolution. And if that weren't enough, the P2370HD adds an HDTV tuner, integrated speakers with SRS TruSurround, and both HDMI and component inputs to its hi-def cousin for something as at home in the rec room as it is in the office. Did we fire up your imagination? Thought so. No price or date yet, but we do have some tasty PR for you after the break.
Samsung Introduces New Slim Touch of Color LCD Monitors
Samsung 70 Series Design-forward, Eco-Friendly, Monitors Offer HD Quality for Entertainment and Productivity
Samsung Electronics America, a subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Corporation, the number one worldwide brand of LCD display products, today announced the release of its 70 Series Monitors: the P2070, P2370 and P2370HD. These slim LCD monitors, with screen depths of 30 mm (1.18 inches) for the P2070 and P2370 and 65.5mm (2.58 inches) for the P2370HD and Touch of Color (ToC(TM)) design, are the latest release of Samsung's high performance displays.
"The 70 Series offers our customers a sophisticated-looking LCD monitor with the performance capability of our televisions," said J.H. Kim, President of Samsung Electronics America's Information Technology Division. "The 70 Series is the new standard as more people upgrade their monitors for additional uses, like watching television programs and playing video games."
The 70 Series Monitors are ideal for office applications and entertainment with its dynamic contrast ratio (50,000:1) for deep, rich colors, while the 2ms (GTG) video response time minimizes blurring for watching sports and fast-moving gameplay. The crystal-like bezel frame with ToC(TM) reduces the reflection of light and glare. The glossy stand offers a polished design, while the clear, crystal-like acrylic neck gives the illusion the monitor is floating.
Samsung's Startlight Touch Controls integrate the On Screen Display (OSD) buttons into the bezel for a seamless look and feel, eliminating obtrusive buttons on the front or sides on the panel. Gently touching any of the buttons illuminates the controls which automatically disappear after a set period of time, minimizing distractions.
The P2370 offers full HD 1080p resolution (1920x1080) for optimized viewing of HD content. For full HDTV capability, the P2370HD builds on the 1080p capabilities of the P2370 with the addition of a HDTV tuner, integrated speakers with SRS TruSurround HD(r) and remote control. In addition, the P2370HD also has HDMI and component inputs for additional connections such as Blu-Ray, set-top boxes and game consoles providing users with a display that is ready for work and play.
"The 70 Series is a great monitor for someone looking a full range of color, sharpness and response. It also has an added benefit for those concerned about the environment. We were sensitive to the impact computers monitors have on the environment and have developed a manufacturing process for the 70 Series that would minimize this," said Tony Yu, Display Product Manager of Samsung Electronics America's Information Technology Division.
The 70 Series offers a suite of eco-conscious features including reduced energy consumption, requiring about a third less power to operate compared to typical monitors of similar size. The ToC manufacturing process eliminates harmful paints and sprays, increasing the monitors' recyclability. The slim footprint also dramatically reduces transportation costs and requirements for a smaller carbon footprint.

looks like yet another TN display,
I'm really dissapointed that Dell is starting to follow the trend, looks like Apple is the last dedicated IPS monitor maker
Last I checked the displays in the iMacs are TN (and crappy ones, at that).
24" iMacs still use IPS, as have all the previous 'bigger' models. when the 20" was the bigger of the two, that was an IPS panel, while the 17" was TN.
TN?
Well I know some iMacs use TN but I said monitor meaning the Cinema displays
I think the big problem with IPS sales is consumer awareness, as evident from the post above, but I don't see why Dell and HP don't just advertise it, I mean I wouldn't expect apple to, they just say theirs are better and more expensive and people buy and are relatively happy
Dell has always had two levels of monitors - the $500+ IPS panels and then the TNs. Most people are happy with TNs so the market is just much bigger and they offer more choices.
Dell has the sIPS 2209wa for less then 300$
wait, eIPS, for what it's worth.

That clear plastic part reminds me of hookers' shoes. Why did Samsung incorporate it in most of their TVs???
Because most people don't have hooker shoes on the brain as much as you must?
As the owner of a Samsung 630 HDTV, I can tell you that the clear plastic edge is barely noticeable. I much preferred the clear edge and the more subtle red of the 630 to the plain edge and brighter red of the 650.
Why Samsung thinks everyone wants a red TV is beyond me.
Hooker shoes are sexy. Monitors balanced on hooker shoes are even more sexy...and dare i say nerdgasmic.
A display for my PC with that resolution? i don't think so. WEAK.
And as Jamil said, a TN panel? Weaker..
Last time I checked imacs weren't monitors..
wow, how broken is this comment system!?
I bought a Samsung ToC T220HD monitor/TV, and it was by far the WORST monitor I have ever owned. The top left of the screen was noticeably darker than any other area of the screen, and the bottom right was noticeably brighter than any other area of the screen. I at first thought it was an issue with the monitor, so I returned it and get another one, but the second one I got was just as bad so I returned it for good.
It was so bad that putting up a single color background showed a gradient. I didn't have to look hard to spot this issue either, I noticed it after immediately booting up my PC.
I will never buy a TN Samsung panel again.
It's funny that we posted opposite opinions on the T220HD within 3 minutes of each other... is that coincidental or what?
wow i bought a t240hd a month ago from buy.com for $280 brand new and i love it. it has no color shift anywhere and is extremely bright. at night i have to turn it all the way down. the only thing i have a problem with is the level 10 brightness does nothing. 1-9 all have their own level but from 9-10 nothing. it doesnt matter though because 9 is way up there anyway.
These go up to 11.
I have the older (if 4 months old is older) T220HD Samsung monitor hooked up to my PS3 and a digital antenna, and it is amazing. It is a lot like these (touch of color, HD tuner, displays in 1080p etc.), execpt it doesn't have as high a contrast ration nor is it as fast to refresh, but the image quality is incredible. However, the speakers are very tinny, so I would hope they are improved on this model.
I can only imagine how well these will look compared to mine, which looks amazing already.
Agreed with everything. I have the bigger T240HD and it's a great monitor.
Viewing angles can be a monitor, but as it is mainly used for my PC and Gaming by myself, i'm rarely in a position where i notice it. PS3 and 360 look brilliant on it.
I'm looking to replace my samsung PVA screen with something bigger, but all they been putting out on hte market is TN screen which i refuse to buy.
iMacs and all macbooks (including pro) are TN as well unless you get the 24" versions, the glossy 24" standalone is also IPS, but ... it's glossy.
I'm a bit spoiled working at the office on a 30" IPS screen.
@kanebake
really? I thought all MBPs were IPS, MBs TN?
That is a misconception. That's why the whole class action lawsuit over the screens was started. Although what was at heart was that the macbook pro screens were (are?) 6bit dithered rather than true 8 bit as implied by color count.
My toshiba and my macbook pro are equivalent in screen quality when i see them side by side. I haven't bee able to find any laptop with IPS screens lately. Heck, even desktops IPS screens are hard to find, due to price a lot of places don't carry what little there is. I guess it's not a spec that sells. Most customers are after 1080p, low response times.
That said, TN screen have come a long way. I still need an IPS screen, I'm willing to sacrifice response for it.
How about we see more monitors with the 2048x1152 16:9 resolution where so far Dell, Samsung and Acer have models of? I would like to have a 16:9 monitor with 1200 vertical resolution.
Get the T260HD monitor. I use it and I run my games at a 1920x1200 resolution. And for 26" it is quite big and beautiful :)
What is TN?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liquid_crystal_display
You're welcome.
A bag of hurt.
We'd all love to have IPS, but we just can't afford it. For those at can, they are at a treat.
Im waiting for the e-IPS monitors that are hopefully coming out soon. Theres only the 22" right now and Im waiting for the 24s to start hitting the shelves...whenever that is. I have one 24" TN that I plan to use for gaming for its refresh rates but I want the better color and angles of the e-IPS for media and general use.
...wait...
"but we do have some tasty PR for you after the break"
donde estan las chicas? they can public my relations
Very nice monitors, we (Tones.be) have them on stock in Belgium:

Soo....no LED backlits? ill pass
http://ces.cnet.com/8301-19167_1-10137941-100.html
I saw the P2370 for sale in Best Buy yesterday, and the list price is $299. These were announced at CES in January. There is also supposed to be the P2370L with LED backlighting for $399, but I haven't seen that one in the wild yet.
The monitors better be 120hz.
Reminds me of a wine glass. I mean, with the clear base resembling the stem and foot and the red on the bezels resembling red wine...
Can I just say that I've tried to find out the difference between TN and IPS and I can't. I went on wikipedia and its explanation is very technical that it's helpless. I guess I will only understand the difference if i actually see two monitors (one tn, other ips) side by side.
Reading someone saying that they 'need IPS', it makes me wonder about what I'm missing in monitor technology.
Looks like a lovely HD Television to me. I have to give it to Samsung for their awesome design.
The chicago office space I work at, is looking into ordering the LED TVs for there meeting rooms. I think I'll be sneaking in on the weekends for some Extra work hours to use them when no one is around. LOL
I for got to post the link in the last comment. lol check us out http:blueprintds.com/ and http://www.chambersexecutive.com/
