Survey finds Nintendo to be the most reputable game company
It's fresh from celebrating the Game Boy's twentieth birthday and solid sales of the DSi, but it looks like Nintendo already has some more good news to boast about, with the Reputation Institutes's annual survey finding that it is by far the most reputable game company around, and the sixth most reputable company overall. That ranking is made all the more impressive by the fact that Nintendo apparently wasn't even in the top 200 in last year's list, and by the fact that it's the only strictly gaming company on the list at all, although Microsoft and Sony come in at 30 and 126, respectively. Hit up the read link below to check out the complete rankings.

@Scheppes: Yeah, I watch AVGN too.
I think is has more to do with things like my NES still working but I'm at the mercy of my 360 and what kind of mood its in.
@ Schweppes:Epic fail.
Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: Toho/Bandai
Master Chu and the Drunkard Hu: Color Dreams
Back to the Future: Electric Dreams Software
Ghostbusters: Activision
The Power Glove and Virtual Boy weren't shoddy; they were under-supported and not very well-received.
If you want to maintain that the VB was a "shoddy" system -- and if I may put on my fanboy hat for a moment -- Nintendo has released 9 gaming platforms (NES, SNES, VB, N64, GCN, Wii, GB, GBA, DS). One of those 9 platforms was "shoddy."
For comparison, Sony has released four platforms (PS, PS2, PS3 and PSP), and of those one was shoddy (PS2 was fraught with disc read issues). Microsoft was released two platforms (XB, XB360) and one of those was shoddy (XB360 RROD).
So, yeah...it makes sense that they're the most trusted gaming company. They've been around the longest (from a console perspective), and they have the best track record.
Anybody find this surprising?
Their customer service is amazing and top-notch, not to mention their products.
I don't think anyone would disagree. They seem to run a pretty nice company.
I liked it when they launched the N64 in the UK for £250 and let their most dedicated fans buy it at that price and then cut the price to £150 literally a few weeks later. It was some time ago but I still can't believe how they treated their most loyal fans. It could be said that they've shafted their fans again with the Wii which completely ignores their core audience and is aimed at the casual gamer.
I'm not really sure in what way they could be considered reputable but perhaps things have changed. I wouldn't know since I sold my Wii a few months after the launch after realising it wasn't providing the sort of gaming experience I was looking for.
Nintendo was never considered a "hardcore" company. It was always the one with kiddie bright colors and talking animals games. the problem is a lot of those kiddies now have kiddies of their own, and want Super Mario Bros to also have babies or bad knees.
Nintendo will always revolve around family oriented games, not adults that outgrew Nintendo, that can't explain why the games have silly subjects like rescuing princesses instead of managing a fiscal budget for SoHo companies during global recessions.
Xbox still holds the throne of what Kleenex is to tissue paper.
I do remember in the past when everyone would say, "Oh, you must like your Nintendo" when I walked around playing my Sega game gear.
You're right. Now, people call any hand-held gaming system a "Game Boy," even if it's a PSP or DS.

Double post (janky Internet connection)...sorry.
No. PlayStation would be the one holding the Kleenex title.
wtf. It's Tempo, not Kleenex.
Nintendo is also the only one that only makes games - you'd be pretty hard pressed to find someone who doesn't already have a beef with Sony or MS over some unrelated product before even factoring in the consoles.
Reputability does not fix a boring product.
Nintendo creates the most innovative gaming device ever made. Continues to be sold out. And you're calling them boring? Yeah, ok!
@Alex: and also statistically proven to be the least played of the three consoles. That's pretty boring. Unless you're gonna go with the excuse that the Wii is so fun that you don't need to play if very long to be satisfied...
Wow, you sound like you gotta one of those boring xbox360, Good luck getting a good game this year, oh right, you are getting Gears of War 2 in november... only 7 more months to go...
@Ridgecity, you've never actually played a 360 have you, and your not old enough to tell time yet. lol.
There is a reason why your playing with a Wii.
Reputability does not fix having to third part support.
fix'd
I'd rather have an Old Faithful than a bells-and-whistles console that doesn't have anything fun.
(to put it lightly, I'm not a fan of shooters- also, no Taiko or Densha games on X360 makes it a no-go)
I'd agree with this. They are the most reputable.
Unfortunately, I feel their current products are inferior to their competitors.
not in sales
Great companies like Nintendo make rock solid hardware + software, they have a similar foundation of what Apple did in the computer industry.
Except Nintendo is to market share what Microsoft is to Apple. Dumbass.
Nintendo:?::Microsoft:Apple
a) Sony
b) A bear
c) the color blue
d) market share
You chose: D
:(
See me after class.

I suppose it's been long enough for everyone to forget their last price-fixing scandal.
I'm surprised Microsoft beat out Sony considering the RROD and (more recently) E74 errors.
Some people are turned off by the whole "it's just a gimmick to sell Blu-Ray players". I disagree, i think the functionality of the games only enhances the player, but doesn't change their minds. Also, the games aren't exactly popular with the PS3 that aren't also for the 360, hence the move to make Ghostbusters exclusive. Add that to mainstream theories about the PS3 being evil Sony, Xbox having Netflix, and Xbox Live being awesome while PS3 pushes second life only, and suddenly you have an explanation, a pretty weak one, but mob mentality doesn't require much. I have a 360, but I got it before the PS3 was available. I've yet to get a PS3 because, well, times are hard, and I'd rather fix my car than get another game system when I mostly just play Gears of War 2, you know?
And while my machine didn't RROD or E74, it did burn out the DVD drive, which they replace PDQ, even when it was out of warranty, so that's cool.
duhhh
Agreed! NINTENDO FTW!
Also the biggest deliverer of rehashed hardware.
They sell well and don't fail catastrophically like many Microsoft or Sony products. Power consumption is extremely low, which is always good in my book.
Yes I agree Nintendo is the best brand in gaming.
The results from my survey were much different. Nintendo was not even found the least bit reputable, in fact many felt they were disreputable. I guess it's all in who you survey. they must have stayed in the mushroom kingdom, whilst I did not even visit there for my survey.
Yeah, I do accept that the Nintendo package is pretty good, but shouldn't they get some stick about their licensing and allowing so much third party s**t to be sold. Its almost as bad as the Atari 2600 days, and they didn't even have any protection to enforce any form of licensing based quality control!
Nice PNG logo. lol
I don't get your angle.
He's using Internet Explorer 5.
Nintendo has been good to me. When my DS was on the fritz they sent me a brand new one no questions asked. I haven't had any major issues with any of their systems and I know a bunch of you are complaining about them being for casual gamers, but thats just what they want to do. They target those people out there who would never dream of picking of a video game controller and it works. I love my wii, its fun and thats about it. Also Nintendo still owns my all time favorite gaming franchise which is Zelda and I have yet to be let down by one. I'm happy for nintendo, they may a solid product and take care of their costumers unlike Microsoft (sony I never really had any issues with, just can't afford a PS3 right now)
"Survey finds Nintendo to be the most reputable game company" In other news, games on the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3 are actually fun.
Right, because only your definition of fun matters, nobody else knows what fun is except you, and the only games that are good are the ones you like. Is that about right?
Somebody call me when the stupid subsides a little.
@Zak
The consoles I own in order of which I obtained them with how "fun" they are.
Nintendo - Pimp
Super Nintendo - Life changing
Nintendo 64 - Fucking Awesome
Gameboy - Awesome
Gameboy Color - More Awesome
Play Station 2 - Awesome
Xbox - Awesome
Gameboy Advance - Pimp
--Current Platforms--
Xbox 360 - Fun, Wide Game play
Nintnedo DS(Gameboy) - Nifty, Dual Screen action, Limited games for it's release
Play Station Portable - Haven't touched mine in over two years.
Nintendo Wii - Gets boring after 30 minutes and is pointless to play by yourself, Limited to "Tween" games because of nintendo and controls
Play Station 3 - Cool, Limited Game play
Nintendo DSI(GameBoy) - Better then DS, It seems that the games supporting dual screen have been increased and the fun level seems higher.
I would like to think I somewhat know what fun is
