Apple rejects Bittorrent control app from App Store because it might be used to infringe copyrights
Sigh. Just as we thought Apple's ridiculous App Store approval process was about to get better with the advent of parental controls in iPhone OS 3.0, it goes and pulls another boneheaded move that makes us wonder if the entire system isn't hopelessly broken forever. This time the company's rejected Maza's Drivetrain, an app that allows users to remotely control the Transmission Bittorrent app, because "this category of applications is often used for the purpose of infringing third party rights." Right, "this category of applications," apparently meaning any app that has anything to do with Bittorrent at all -- Drivetrain doesn't actually upload or download anything, it's just used to manage Transmission running on your desktop. That's an awfully paranoid and restrictive stance towards one of the most popular file-transfer protocols around, especially since there are millions of legit torrents available, but somehow we're just not surprised -- this type of foolish, petty, and capricious behavior from Apple has sadly become par for the course with the App Store.

Finally someone with Android supports me!! yeah, and all i can say about this is jajajajaja apple, another app they reject, how many apps will they keep rejecting>?< is the question!
Hey Apple, I might use my iPhone to call my buddy after a robbery so I can get away. Will you stop selling the iPhone then?
It's stuff like this that makes me wish for a real iPhone alternative soon.
Tell me it is a joke, right?
Banned for a 'control' instead of a BitTorrent client?
There is a real client such as SymTorrent for Nokia recently and another one for Windows phone, wmTorrent, since 2005! See this link

What's going on with Apple? They do it because they can or they are just being ignorant?
Android's Market approved of this app, so hey can't say I feel your pain.
In fact, I will laugh at your pain and rejection and disappointment. And I'll gladly enjoy my phone that controls my Transmission torrent client.
Yes, & they (Android Market) even approved the new "Opera Mini" browser that Apple so much a told "Opera" that their app would never get approved. Talk about a browser that would put Safari to shame & really show-up Apple. That's why Apple doesn't want it in the App store or on their phone. They can't stand to competition..
People need to take their blinders off & see Apple for what they've become this past few years..
Apple should also prevent playing audio, because I might use it to play music and not do my homework and make my parents go mad. Please Apple, please save the world!
Even though the restrictions placed on the store is a pain in the arse (being an iPhone owner myself) I have to say that so far even though there has been a few apps that have been banned I would like (tethering etc) I do believe that this has ensured that the store as a whole remains productive and putting it lightly rubbish free. Yes Apple are trying to ensure that there is no option but to use the iTMS for music etc which I dont like, they have done a lot - DRM free music for instance, whereas just yesterday Microsoft announced another DRM splattered, restrictive music service. They also brought us the Digital Music store and digital music player to the masses, which Im sure we all greatly appreciate. It's not great but with time like the music store I do like to think it will get better with time. Also, 1Billion downloads - they cant be limiting all the good apps LOL!!
This is a stupid app BECAUSE TRANSMISSION ALREADY HAS A WEB INTERFACE. That's right, browse to http://your.internal.ip.address:9091/transmission/web/ and you get a pretty, iPhone-compatible interface to control your torrents. Save the bookmark to your homescreen and you have something that looks like an app to control them. Job done.
Jailbreak?
There's already a webpage that you can use to do this when running Transmission. Check in the preferences and check out Remote Monitoring. Sure, an app would be cool, but, not needed since you can already do it.

I think engadget is missing what the app store is. The iphone IS NOT A COMPUTER! You can't put and app in the app store that does something that Apple doesn't want. WHY? Because apple owns 3/10ths of every app in that store. Because apple keeps 3/10ths of that app, they are responsible for that apps content. So why do you engadget keep bringing up this long and drawn out complaint? Do you understand business?
