only color, Sony repeats, even when presented with the image above, which pretty clearly shows a white DualShock 3 safely encapsulated within North American, bi-lingual packaging -- and a Walmart receipt to boot. Sony's specific response was: "We have no plans to release a white Dualshock 3." That means either someone carefully sealed an imported gamepad into a domestic package, or this was one of those
unplanned releases. Something else to look forward to at

Update: Commenter Four More Beers looked up the UPC and, go figure, it points to the classic black model on
Walmart's site. So, proven hoax, or does Sony also not have any plans to release new UPC codes?

You kind of wonder though, if Sony themselves said "We have no plans to release a white Dualshock 3", then if they do release one we can all call them liars. Makes me think this has to be a hoax.
Because no company or gov. has ever said this doesn't exist even though your looking right at it.

In Asia you can get the PS3 in black, white or silver and ds3 controllers in, yep you guessed it, black, white and silver.

A quick search discovered the receipt indicates the controlle blanc was purchased in Orlando FL.

Nope, that's definitely an Orlando Wal-Mart, the area code and sales tax match.
I'm thinking maybe a shipment of white ones meant for sale in canada ended up in orlando by mistake, so they used the standard code for the black one and just put them on the shelf, since it would be silly and costly to ship them back just over the color.
Nope, we don't have Walmart up here. They tried but couldn't build an igloo big enough to hold the inventory. So we're stuck with seal and elk skin clothes for now.
Now I'm even more perplexed, I could get spanish/english but french/english for the US market? WTF!?
@Wwhat: if you've ever lived near the Canadian border, you'd know that English/French packaging is not all that uncommon.
If it exists in Walmart stores it must be a Canadian one from the package, but that is an American recite. I work in a walmart electronics department in Canada so when I get to work I'll search the system for the white controller to see if I can order any and if someone shows any interest I can probably do an inventory search in the store #1084 mentioned on the recite. But from a canadian packaging and an american recite, I say hoax.
I do sometimes see english/french packaging in the EU too incidentally, I just didn't expect it in the US.
Galley... Not really, I live just minutes away (ok, maybe 30 of them) from the border, somewhat near Toronto and English/French packaging is few and far between...
I think that the reciept is a fake, it was actually bought from Future Shop, you know, the store from the future, today.

They are obviously an employee, they get a 10% discount on most stuff. However I thought electronics was only 5%. I don't know anybody that has worked there for the last 6-7 yeas so it may have changed.
It's OBVIOUSLY an employee. The blacked-out sections of the bill probably has the employee's name like we used to do.
And it's 10% or nothing. When I was working for Wal-Mart in Canada (they have the same discount policies as the US) the only electronics we couldn't get discount on was new DVD release, since they were a few bucks cheaper on the first few days.
At the time I was working here, I bought my PS2. We sold it for 169,99$ (yeah, a long time ago lol) and Zellers advertised it for 129,99$. So I got the flyer at my store, matched the price, plus got my discount so 129,99$ - 10% = 116,99$
Receipt is for a black pad. UPC is 071171980500 from the receipt. If you add an extra zero to the front of that barcode you get the EAN number. If you punch that into google you get:

When I worked for circuit city, many of the controllers from the console manufacturer usually shared the same numbers but had different colors. That does not mean it's a hoax.
I've had a white PS3 controller for over a year now... it's still the only DS3 I own, actually.

Could it be Photoshoped or Gimped? I think it's just a receipt for a black controller placed alongside an imported white controller, just to create buzz. Sill no big deal anyway. I dunno why companies fail at being colorful if they already offer multicolored products elsewhere. (same with laptops, etc..).
Also, it may had been a slip from a Canadian inventory (French). I doubt this would be a first.

Could be a hoax but I dunno Walmart has gotten alot of stuff that seems to not have been released.
Out of every retail brick and mortar store that sells MS points there is one walmart that had been selling the 800 MS points cards..... (In my Area!) Maybe its a testing of a limited release see if the demand is really there for it.

Proven hoax. If Sony were to release a white controller they would *have* to get a distinct UPC. Different sizes/colors = different UPCs.
I purchased a white DS3 (JPN) last summer at Amazon for $60, they sell silver as well. You can also pick up either color on PlayAsia.com.

We have the White DS3's here in Newfoundland Canada, I plan to pick one up very soon. I think they are a Canadian Release only. The white controller is in homage to us. It snowed on Saturday...
