UMID M1D making its way to Korea any day now

No, we still have no details on any upcoming releases of UMID's M1, but it seems that a slightly stripped down version -- the M1D -- is about to appear in Korea. This Mbook boasts a 1.1GHz Atom CPU (the M1 has a 1.3GHz Atom), and lacks both the webcam and the DMB module. Other than that, we're looking at the same cute little guy we've come to know and love. The M1D is launching in Korea next week -- but still no word on if or when it'll ever make its way to the States or elsewhere, or its official price. There's one more shot after the break.

Maybe you should quit reading gadget sites and stick to ebay...
$600 is a steal to have a working netbook in your pocket (assuming this thing actually works, and the battery-life is usable). Remeber OQO? Those things cost 3 times as much!
what fantasy world am I living in where $600 is a good value for a netbook?
What market is this little guy competing with exactly, that old ultraportable category with the likes of the samsung Q1? Maybe I'm just not understanding the segment this is aiming for, or the actual size of it - If its an Eee, a full laptop, or this thing, it's still probably not fitting in my pocket.

Other than that, I guess I'm just a little bitter with this whole netbook, nettop category altogether, As $600 buys a decent laptop or a fully-featured desktop...

So go post on an article about a netbook then. This is a 4.8-inch touchscreen (1024 x 600) based machine - you did *read* the article didn't you?
And this stagnant comparison of netbooks Vs full size machines misses the point. Compare size not ability... I *can* buy the latter but I wouldn't take it anywhere.

I guess this machine just isn't quite as appealing to me as Always Innovating's Touchbook. Seems like the price was right, battery life is grand, and is ideal for most uses of netbooks (internet surfing, minor word processing)

Is a 4.8" screen really big enough? I suppose the resolution is in line with what it should be, I just feel like text would bee too hard to read.
personally i think $600 is a decent price compared to whats out there already, though lower is always better.
this being compared to netbooks is ridiculous.

Seen the Touchbook - tis nice, though I haven't seen anything other than the renders. The Touchbook is still closer to a netbook than this though.
Your second comment is valid though - running XP on a screen that small sounds plain silly. And the res at that size is also mad, having recently looked at the Sony things screen.
They probably will get cheaper once there is some succes but for the first UMPC's $600 seems to be the startings bids. It's a great device but i think i still settle for the Viliv s5 even though i love the QWERTY on this thing. Maybe if they bring out a black version and make me change my mind. Oh and this is not a netbook it's a UMPC and it will fit in your pocket.
It's not a UMPC it's a UMID.
Isn't UMID a brand rather than a category of computer? I thought it was just MID or UMPC depending on the tech specs?
I'm holding out for the wristwatch version.
Did anyone else notice that "UMID" looks conspicuously like 'VAIO" from far away?
