BlackBerry Storm 2 gets pictured early
We knew it was coming, and just like its relatives the Onyx and the Gemini, yet another unreleased model has managed to escape the confines of RIM's Waterloo headquarters. This time, however, it's the Storm 2, which we've heard has been internally codenamed "Oden." We've also caught wind that this model pictured is of the GSM flavor, and yes, it's indeed packing WiFi in addition to GPS according to one of our sources. As far as that rumored "new approach to text entry," it sounds like the keyboard has been tweaked but isn't a radical departure from the first generation. From the photos, it seems that RIM has advanced in the war on buttons and axed the bottom four in favor of some touch-sensitive controls. The real improvements, however, appear to be under the hood, as the whole device reportedly runs much faster and smoother than the current model. We can't confirm these specs, but with the Tour coming this summer, and the Storm 2 hopefully making an appearance before the holiday shopping season, looks like you Verizon BlackBerry fans might not have to be that jealous of your GSM brethren after all.

Great Oden's Raven!!
i hate typing on my storm, typing on the iphone feels so much nicer for a touch screen. i definately do miss the blackberry 8700g keyboard. it seems they have gotten progressively harder to type on. from the 7290 ->8703 -> 8830 -> storm
why do they have the headphone jack on the side?
Even if it isn't a music phone, why would they have it there?
It's funny but the ONLY thing that the POStorm1 is good at is playing music from Slacker . But that is due more to Slacker's great app than the clueless morons at RIM . It's all that keeps me from throwing this POS out the window.
Blackberry POS2 . Can't wait for something good to come to Verizon.
Big, clunky and ugly... I never heard of the storm 1, now the storm 2 is out... Am i missing something
So let's recap:
You've never heard of the Blackberry Storm? And now you're passing judgement on 3 things about the Storm 2, two of which you couldn't really comment on without having used it before?
These things always look HUGE in pictures, then when you see it in person it's a reasonable size.
Don't get me wrong, I've never used a Storm before, or spent much time using a BB at all. But at least I'm not trying to pass judgement on it based on my limited knowledge. Hell, at least I've HEARD of it.
Hopefully they've resolved the screen movement, dust, and light leak issues. Otherwise they had a pretty decent hardware with the Storm 1. The software was another story, and probably won't be resolved until they code specifically for a touch interface instead of hacking it in like they've done thus far.
SurePress and SureType... two different things.
Sure!!!
Sure?
SurePOS is more likeit.
i like it
Not that it matters... But this guy is sitting on the passenger side of a G35 (with the Wasabi aluminum interior trim). Yes that is the seat heater button on his left... Oh, and those are Gordon Gartrell jeans he is wearing too..... Not a Benz as suggested above...
OMG please tell me it's just a touch screen. I'd take a regular touch screen over that surepress nonsense any day!
Wwhere the hell is the pic of it
wait. codename "oden" ??? like... GREG ODEN? if it's anything like the portland trailblazer's center... it'll be promising but have so many critical faults (injuries) that it'll never live up to its promise.
Oh Please do you schmucks actually believe it's a Storm 2? It's the same Storm '1' that was for sale on Ebay last July ('08)... it's an engineer mule, that's it! I call MAJOR BS on this.
I hope it's better than the first Storm. That think was an unstable piece of godshite. Any phone that can make the HTC Touch Pro seem rock solid (it's not...) is best used as a paperweight. Crossing my fingers on this one.
How can it be the same one the four buttons on the bottom are touch sensitive come on think b4 u post something
According to BGR its for Verizon and it has Wi-Fi. Also the pics show "Activation Required" which would suggest CDMA rather than GSM, which would say, "Insert SIM".
That's a pretty good RIM job. :)
Hey RIM how about you get another damn software update done for Storm 1 before pushing out Storm 2...and yes, I know you've probably finished it, and Verizon is holding it up...but come on...you can't lean on Verizon a little?
I can understand buying a blackberry with a physical keyboard over an iPhone if that's what you prefer, but why would you buy a shitty iPhone-wannabe touch screen blackberry when the iPhone itself has done it so well?
I do feel kinda bad for the Storm 1 owners though, must suck to have a company release a new phone to fix the predecessor's problems rather than fix it in software :(
Ahhh... finally... there's WiFi on this thing...
POStorm2 would be a better name.
To summarize, definitely a laughable attempt to compete with Apple iPhone.
NICE!
