Two years in, we still can't say with any level of definitiveness or authority what exactly Sony's
Rolly is, but here's what we can say: it's still hanging around. After catching wind of a somewhat innocent
Sony Insider report (which was seemingly misunderstood / misreported elsewhere) that the curious music maker was being canned in the US, we contacted Sony directly to sort things out. From Sony to you: "There is no truth to these reports at this time." 'Nuff said, yeah?

" at this time"
I'm sure they aren't taking that option off the table. Can't imagine they've sold that many...
OneLove @ May 14th 2009 3:48PM
This is exactly why they are $1B in da Hole.
Blackstar @ May 14th 2009 11:09PM
**UPDATE**
America doesn't really care if Sony has not discontinued Rolly... anywhere.

Press: Can you confirm you sell PS3s in North America?
Sony: There is no truth in these baseless claims. We have no plans to release the PS3 in the North American region
random @ May 14th 2009 2:30PM

macserv @ May 16th 2009 9:26PM
Its purpose in life is to be fun and adorable. It does its job very well.

Have you guys ever seen one of these things in person. They are beyond adorable. If Sony would price them at $99 I would buy one. Leave it on your coffee table and let folks enjoy it. Sorry to see Sony having all these problems.

Sorry to see Sony having all these problems. They are a company with a rich history in tech. Come on Sony, pull it together!

I agree these things are adorable!
I just can't justify paying $400 for one :(
$100 I definetly would buy it
$200 I probably would buy it
$300 I eventually would buy it
$400 no way :(
DirtHerder @ May 14th 2009 5:54PM
They've been selling them for $99 for a week or so.
NineT9 @ May 15th 2009 2:42PM

skyzbig @ May 14th 2009 2:48PM
They haven't, but they should.
jon @ May 14th 2009 2:49PM
who has actually bought one of these things? i dont get why anyone would pay any amount of money to see a robot roll around to music, why not just dance yourself?
Iinarchibald @ May 14th 2009 2:51PM
Why d when you can have a robot do it for you?
Kenny @ May 14th 2009 2:51PM

i_am_rich @ May 14th 2009 2:59PM
My 2yr old kid is gonna love it. ROLLY on
Peter Huntley @ May 14th 2009 3:05PM
I own one! If you love robotics and conversation piece gadgets (or drugs), the Rolly is impressive... what most people don't understand is the complicated program included which allows you to choreograph very specific moves (it'll take you a few hours for a few seconds of specific movements). This alone makes it much more than a useless music visualizer.
God I love Rolly.
Alex @ May 16th 2009 10:54AM
But can it sync with the music automatically to perform impromptu moves? Because if it can't, then it really isn't worth the money.
Richard @ May 14th 2009 3:37PM
On your way to the bank to deposit that check from Sony?
macserv @ May 16th 2009 9:32PM
I never knew this, but apparently, it's precise enough that it'll actually stay in sync with other Rollys. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K3SlT27fk2E

Actually, at the Sony Store on Madison Ave. in New York, they had a display for these, where they were marked from 399, crossed to 299, 199, to 99. Then they went away.
I remember commenting at the time that if they were just decreased in price by 90 more dollars . . . wait, I still wouldn't buy it.
bakkermaarten007 @ May 14th 2009 4:07PM
OMG, I've watched a couple of movies about the Rolly and I soooo want one, it looks so cool. And the sound is fantastic! Sony just made me spending 400 $ on this device, I hope I won't get tired of it :p
Aaron @ May 14th 2009 4:49PM
a much better youtube vid of it:

Let me control the thing on the fly with my PS3 controller, and I'd buy one in a minute.
NineT9 @ May 15th 2009 2:44PM
