MSI's X-Slim X340 vs. X400 vs. X600 CULV laptops... Fight!
The big Computex show in Taipei is just a few weeks away and that means laptops, tons and tons of laptops. Specifically, CULV thin-and-light laptops that Intel's hoard of dutiful manufacturers have positioned between netbooks and super-expensive, ultra-portables like the MacBook Air or ThinkPad X301. Engadget Chinese is at the unveiling of MSI's full range of X-Slim laptops. We've already seen the X320/X340 up close, but this is the first time we've received official specs on the 14-inch (1366 x 768) X400 and 15.6-inch (1366 x 768) X600. Both feature Core 2 Solo CULV processors, an HDMI jack, hard disks up to 500GB in capacity, up to 4GB of DDR2 memory, and a 2-in-1 card memory reader. The X600 adds eSATA, options for 6 or 9-cell batteries (compared to the X400's 4 or 8-cells), and bumps the graphics from integrated GMA 4500MHD to ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4330. Now we're just waiting for the ship dates and prices which should start at $699 to about $1,100.
Update: Official press release says to expect these before June is through.

the x600 would win in this fight!!
too low res for its size...
sweet mother of jesus... when will this madness end???
12.12.2012 or so they say.
Sad stuff, I want dual-core Atom for $300 with Ion.
Too bad it won't happen in the netbook chassis any time soon...
yeah, looks like X600 is on it's way!
btw, i hope engadget changes the photo. if i read a comment that this is a MBA rip-off, i'll cry T_T
WHO CARES about those crappy computers... DAVE GAHAN IS ILL... Two Depeche Mode Gigs Cancelled! THAT'S (sad) NEWS morons!
Hopping for a Quick recovery of his Health... DAVE all D.M. fans LOVE YOU!
so you actually expect that you read this news of yours in a blog dedicated to gadgets?
@admasher couldn't agree no more. if we you want to talk about celebs, why dont u go to tmz or perez?
that x600 really looks like macbook aluminum.
at the angle it's the photo was taken it actually loooks like a cardboard cutout rather than any computer. There doesn't seem to be any depth in the msi x-series notebooks.
they're THICK from the sides.
similar to an eee pc 901 but the X series is so tapered that we don't see anything.
I consider 14" laptops the sweet spot - small enough to be mobile, but big enough to have a usable screen and (more importantly) a usable keyboard. Consequently, I was really looking forward to the X400 as a replacement for my aging LG XNote T1 Express Dual.
I guess my expectations were unreasonably, though, given the X400's target price. But a single core processor processor with 240k+ fewer pixels then my current, aging machine? :(
Ok, honestly not a fanboy, that design really is just a little more than inspired if you know what my mean. Could they not have even put the power button on the other side as a token distinction?
I'm usually not one to cry MAC RIPOFF! but the tapered edges, color scheme, bezel size....
How about compare it with a MBA? I know the prices are quite different, but there's no denying the purpose of this laptop is to rival the Air.
this is a fuckin netbook not a laptop and the macbook is way better than this shit .......
I am at odds to why folks are complaining single core processor in this netbook, its highly unlikely you will be running any other applications at the same time aside from a media player while surfing the web. As for screen resolution it maybe a bit low at 15.6' but at 14' I can't imagine many people wanting to go beyond 1024x768 for the desktop. It also has a great GPU for the max screen resolution, which would make it fine for running most games at medium/low. It also comes with a pretty beefy battery which makes it able for you to be able to watch an entire movie in 720p (1080p would be redundant on a 14' screen) and overall it would be a pretty good piece of kit if price wasn't an issue.
All in all this is a "netbook" (trademark stolen from Psion) not a "notebook" so MSI is in the right to fleece those who want a laptop that is lighter only because they removed about 300 gram or about a pound optical disc drive so stop whining!
I meant about half a pound considering the heaviest piece of hardware in any laptop aside from the case is the battery followed by the hardrive.
Wow, so you link to a google translated version of your own Chinese sister site?
Those are some ugly looking headphone jacks and ports. All that rounded plastic around them make them look larger than they really are.
