Given the hideous MSRP affixed to the
Adamo, we have all ideas that only a select few have chomped on what Dell's offering here. That said, we also reckon those with enough cash to buy in are quite the critical bunch, and we're interested to hear what y'all have to say. During
our own testing, we were decidedly underwhelmed with the value proposition; in pretty much every meaningful way, it underperformed for the price. But hey, we can't knock the styling. Are you cool with the ho hum performance? Would you throw a different CPU in there? Lower the price? Add a little thickness in exchange for a few more frames per second? Tell all, won't you?
linux
?
you could do that yourself...
I would not only lower the price but also try and bump up the processor.
Also, a game changer would be a disc drive.

What I don't get is this: how can Apple add a quarter inch in thickness, half a puond in weight, match build quality and shave $700 off the price but still end up with a full featured MacBook but all the Dell engineers could come up with is this. Really, come on. I like competition. It pushes good companies to be better, but really we cannot even compare this machine to Lenovo or Apple's offerings. Sorry, back to the drawing board dell.
i know, i would (and can) change that
@Philip
Possibly because it actually is half a pound lighter and a quarter of an inch thinner whihc, you know, is rather the point.
Anyway, I would change it by... not releasing it. I mean, seriously, what the hell?
I would remove that overhang that extends past the base of the screen. (dotted silver part in the picture above)
All the reviews I have read say that this area was 'necessary' to make it so slim but that it makes the computer unnecessarily front heavy. If you hold it in your lap or on any uneven surface its natural tendency will be to flip over and on to the floor.
Im all for Dell and others designing cooler looking products but I think thats a pretty significant shortcut.
Also price is too high and performance is weak
MacBook Air with a free beta copy of Windows 7 dual boot is a much better option than this thing
Dell: good design !=stupid high price
I'd have it with a giant resolution, a full family of machines similarly designed, realistic pricing, and ubuntu as an option. Vista in this low powered machine? WTF?
1. Get at least a 1.6Ghz Atom in it.
2. At least 2GB of RAM.
3. Offer regular HDD's! Some of us actually still use them.
4. Offer XP because Vista will never run on anything that's under 2.0Ghz well.
Then, it's exactly like their Inspiron Mini 9, which is only $350 with the same specs...
lower the price
Agree
i could suggest what to change in the adamo if i could afford one, right?
Yes, this.
I agree about the price. However, even if this were $1200, which I think is the right price point, it would still have to be a pound lighter.
Even if Dell could do that, it'd still be a really hard sell. Considering what you can get in a netbook for $400, I just don't know anyone itching to spend 3 times that on an under-powered, "luxury" system.
Remove the dell name.
the butt needs to go.
i love the butt
What, What in the butt
Where do you put the sockets, then?
i personally dont mind a little thickness for all the ports to be on the side
that would give more room for, say, proper cooling for a more powerful cpu and gpu
@boodie
bahahaha perfect username for the perfect comment
Lower price OR beter CPU+GPU
Add a cup holder
Why not add two?
i like cups :D
Size C I presume judging from your name?
dont forget the complimentary leather chair.
You could add 2 C Cups to it and it still would be over-priced...
@Matt: Have you priced breast implants recently? that would be a bargain!
what about two girls and a cup?
Even if Dell did put in cupholders they'd probably be permanent and make the fan run more...
Make it a $300 netbook with Ion, a dual-core Atom, 2 Gb. of RAM and Windows 7.
OMG, another Vista user who really thinks that Windows 7 is a completely different OS & not just a Vista Service Pack that MS is making us pay for. Plus, I doubt that even Windows 7 will run well on the hardware mentioned.
^ you'd be wrong. windows 7 runs fine on an Atom 1.6GHz HP mini 1000....
Windows vista runs fine on my aspire one...
I just like 7 because its sexier
@Lancelot
Have a nice day with your Mac/Linux IBM PC.
If you're going to troll, at least troll with a clue.
I'm not sure you could make a netbook of those specs that cheap. Probably be more like $400. Especially if Microsoft feels like it needs to bump the Win7 price to compensate for Vista...
But I'd pay $400 for Win 7, Dual Core Atom (220?), 2GB ram and Ion. As long as it comes with WiFi and at least 2 USB ports it doesn't even really NEED a CD/DVD drive (I never really use those anymore).
Better all around specs. For the price, the combination of cpu+gpu in that is simply abysmal. Heck, the macbook air beats that. C'mon Dell.
Throw some Dees on that bitch.
i just lol'd
The design and build-quality is simply stunning.
It only needs improvement in performance. Make it slightly thicker, still keep it solid, add a more powerful CPU and GPU, and you definitely have a winner here!
Oh, and lower the price a bit please!
Lower the price, up the specs. I think that's about it.
Lower the price to $20, throw in an i7, shave off 2 lbs, and throw in a cookie god dammit!
I find your screen name... intriguing.
I gotta tell you....I'm so sick of Dell news. Sorry folks but Dell is crap. Michael Dell is coming out of retirement to rebuild the name. I'm sticking with Apple all the way. My MacbookPro trounces this and looks amazing. You should see the chicks come by when I'm doing my homework at Starbucks....I practically get a lap dance right there. Free Wifi at Starbucks too. Your mom was actually in there the other day....gave me a lap dance....just cuz she saw my MacBookPro.
as a Macbook owner AND a dell owner, I have to call you an total idiot
What's next? Are you going to tell us your macbook pro gave you 4 more inches and made you last 10 minutes lower?
GO TROLL SOMEWHERE ELSE!
Having also owned products from both companies i agree 100% with kingofwales, you sir are an imbecile.i own a Macbook Pro 17 and yes it is one hell of a work horse with a beautiful design. But Last time i checked, the Macbook Pro dint come equipped with a chick magnet, the only magnet it was equipped with was the magsafe connector. if your buying a certain computer brand just to get females to notice you, then im afriad that you have failed at that task.
i guess you got those lap dances from 80 year old bikers chicks with c-cups that are dragging the ground huh?
ADD A DECENT GPU! I know that it seems stupid to add a laptop GPU, that compromises battery life, but keep in mind that this thing doesn't have the specs to run Sims 3 properly.
just switch over to the 9400m IGP/chipset, everything else is fine in my book.
