iriver P7 ships in South Korea, Americans look longingly across the sea
Sadly, we're still no closer to understanding when iriver will allow its striking P7 to escape the chains of "pre-order status" here in North America, but geeks in South Korea can now feel free to indulge. 4.3-inches of luscious screen real estate slapped onto an 8GB PMP will set you back just under ₩200,000 ($160), and we're guessing the more capacious 16GB variant will cost just a wee bit more. So yeah, we're going out on a limb here and assuming that a homeland launch foreshadows a splashdown on US soil -- don't let us down, iriver.

Nice~
I like the clean design.
I hear that the iRiver store in Korea is quite amazing.
I don't really understand the this product. It's big and bulky so you can't fit it in your pocket, it has only a WQVGA resolution at 4.3 in so it's pixelated, no wifi, no anything, and has less storage than the 32gb ipod touch? What were they thinking?
32GB iPod touch - $399.00 (US Apple Store)
8GB iriver P7 - ~$160 (Korean pricing)
It costs $160 dollars? You're essentially saying that a Honda Civic Coupe sucks compared to a BMW M3 Sedan because it has less room and less horsepower. The thing is, the Civic Coupe costs about $15,000, whereas the M3 Sedan costs about $55,000.
As far as storage goes, it has an micro SD card slot. So right now you could put a 16GB micro SD card in there and have the same size as the iPod Touch, for less. Also I expect a 32GB card pretty soon.
Right. I missed the price factor...but I still think its worth is highly debatable.
The ui is really nice. Just take a look at the video from the source link. Wish my Dell Media Center had that homescreen.
as far as i know, iriver PMP supports way more media file types than all versions of ipod.
file types : AVI, MP4, DAT, MPG, WMV, RM/RMVB, 3GP,K3G, FLV
Codec : MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4 Simple Profile, MPEG-4 Advanced,Simple Profile (B-VOP only), Xvid, WMV 7/8/9, RM/RMVB, H.264 Baseline Profile
@lawybird
if you take a look @ spyder91's link for the p7 it's actually quite small not as bulky as the picture would make you think...
americans look longingly across the sea while trevor looks satisfactorily at his archos (yes. he actually has no problems with his archos.)
umm you guys know it has been released in the USA since like mid-April right? I have one myself that I purchased directly from iriver USA
Same here i have a friend that purchased one off iriver like a month ago.

Up-to-date gadget news is not Engadget's strong point. iPhone promotion is.
Anyone know if the Wifi version is going to be released in the US?

peeps, you can get it at warehouse123.com
and also in Australia minidisc.com.au
Good Luck!
Before I saw this, I had an idea that Apple should do something similar: have a full OSX computer (keyboard, mouse, disc drive, etc) for the docking base and have a mid-size (10"?) tablet that docks in and uses the docks computing resources. When docked, the tablet could be charged, and when undocked, the tablet would have a touchscreen and have synced documents, mail, calendar, music, etc... that could be taken on the go. I think the idea is compelling and think that an Apple version would be pretty sweet and innovative in regards to the entire concept, not just the idea of docking a tablet, but having a docking/syncing/portable touch tablet that uses an integrated OS when undocked and then switches to using the larger computer's OS when docked.
I use to like iRiver till they started bragging their cool gadgets that will never show up here in the United States....
