Meizu talks M8 followup: 3G, GPS, 5-megapixel camera

The Meizu M8 may have only just recently ceased to be a figment of our collective imagination, but the always talkative J. Wong (Meizu's CEO, if he needs any introduction) is already dropping some hints about the next version of the phone, which may or may not actually be the M9. While there's no word on any changes to the design of the device just yet, it will apparently get a much-needed 3G upgrade (as earlier rumored), along with built-in GPS, a new and improved 5-megapixel camera with an LED flash and, no doubt, entirely new levels of KIRF. Still itching for more vague details?Just wait a bit, Meizu has this down to an art at this point.

Yes, the godalmighty fantastic Meizu. The Meizu M8 was SUPPOSED to be the original iPhone killer and the Apple haters were sure that it would just put Apple out of business. Nobody would ever buy an iPhone if they could get their greedy hands on a wonderful M8. Of course, that was over two years ago and history has already shown a clear winner. Now comes the M9 and again it will be declared as an iPhone killer just bristling with the latest and greatest hardware. No matter what specs the new iPhone has, this M9 will go it maybe 2X better and everyone, except the billion or so SUPPOSED Palm Pre buyers, will want to buy this new Meizu. Hey, the Meizu M9 might just be the greatest handset that, in reality, next to nobody will ever buy. Pffft.

It would definately crush the iPhone if they can deliver on time. Probably not. The M8 woulda killed the iPhone if it was released a month or two after iPhone release, but with this much time behind, there's no competition. They need to work faster if they want to compete, though I don't consider these guys KIRFs, even though they copy a lot, it's still quite a different product, and alternative.
hmmm, wonder what phone this looks like. wow, 3G? didn't people have that in '07? I know I'm going to get all the Apple haters, but seriously, the cell companies need to get original and blow people away. No one can tell me it doesn't look like a copy-cat. Nice apple fonts, icons, and design.

It's not like this is coming to the states anyway. If I were to move to China, I'll definitely pick one up.
Meizu should just hire some decent designers to give this thing a unique and good design. That has to be possible. And then please deliver... get the software bugfree (ok, somewhat at least), and offer it for a good price.
But anyway, no I don't think it will be better than the iPhone 3G (except for the screen), but if the price is good? Why not? The iPhone, just like any other decent smartphone, is extremely expensive (forced into a contract with free minutes etc. I don't need...).
Oh, and can we have a review of that M8 Engadget received, or at least some info why no review is coming? Do you think it would be too bad for Meizu if you write a review, because the phone is too buggy? Has it died? Is it so good that iPhone sales would stop?
Now we`ll have to wait just another 2-3 years for it to come out.

I like Meizu because it's the only KIRF phone out there which is (probably) not a piece of crap and i want it to succeed. It could probably be an international success if they just used their own design so nobody could accuse them of copying.
