Wearable ECG uses patient's posture for encryption, transmits data over Body Area Network

Though its fun to think of the Body Area Network as another way for cheap employers to get out of paying for properly wiring your workspace, the most obvious uses for this technology would seem to be in the realm of health care. To this end, the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) in Japan has developed an ECG that can be worn 24 hours a day, wirelessly transmitting electrocardiographic data as well as measuring changes in body surface temperature and posture. The data can even be transmitted securely using cryptographic keys dynamically generated by the patient's posture and biological data (which are unique to each user). We'll let you guys ponder the cypherpunk ramifications of this technology in the comments -- and be sure to check out the additional pic we have for you after the break.

Somehow it looks dirty.
No, it's looks pretty clean and white.
Ohhh, I've always wanted a sterile uterus!
Looks just like a female reproductive system.
Ha - I was thinking the same exact thing.
It looks like a high-tech IUD.
If you don't know what an IUD is, then you're not old enough to be here, or you're blissfully ignorant of womens' issues.
hivemind, i thought uterus too
Oh jeez, I've joined the hivemind...
First... What phone is that?
Second... you think everyone will remember the day actual science became scarier than science fiction?
Most important...I hope it ends with wearable peripherals because my ports don't accept plugs.
I agree. WHAT PHONE IS THAT?!
something more specific than SE please. how come its always the japs and koreans that get all the cool tech?
In the Japanese health care system, healthcare services, including free screening examinations for particular diseases, prenatal care, and infectious disease control, are provided by national and local governments.
Payment for personal medical services is offered through a universal health care insurance system that provides relative equality of access, with fees set by a government committee. People without insurance through employers can participate in a national health insurance program administered by local governments.
Since 1973, all elderly persons have been covered by government-sponsored insurance. Patients are free to select physicians or facilities of their choice.
.
Maybe that's why?

Good luck finding a hospital. But hey, it's free.
My point was that making stuff to make it cheaper for insurance to monitor people and prevent costs, which then will be bought by the health care system, is economically more doable in large quantities than the US system where they would make the same thing only charge 100 grand for it and a few suitably wealthy people could opt for it and the rest of the country would not hear much about it :)
Perhaps GM's and fannie-mae CEO's have been wearing the same thing for ages already.
Penis! :-)
Vagina! Vagina! Vagina! Weeeeee~~~~~
