Bookeen outs pocket-sized Cybook Opus e-book reader

Details are not totally clear at this point, but Bookeen recently teased its newest e-book reader offering -- the Cybook Opus -- during a presentation. At 200 DPI, the teensy 5.3-ouncer will have one of the higher resolutions we've seen on a reader, and it will supposedly be controllable by just one hand. We hear that It'll also have 1GB of onboard storage, and boast PDF support, but that's all we know spec-wise for now. There's no word on pricing or availability for this miniscule paper-slayer, but we'll let you know as soon as we do. [Warning: read link is a PDF]

Um... if it looks like _any_ phone, it would be the HTC Touch. But seriously, do you really need to try and make a comparison?
god-like
I really wish textbook publishers would embrace e-books. Hell, I'd pay (almost) as much for a PDF version of a textbook as the real book. Just the convenience factor of having all your books in one small device is amazingly tempting.
For me to steal!
"it will supposedly be controllable by just one hand."
What kind of books do they think people are going to be reading?
Apparently the kind that can be read with one hand.
i wonder, if in the near future if there will be fanboy wars over e readers o___O
"Kindle WASD has 500,000 books compared to your stupid iReader!!!!111"
"iReader is made of unibody almunium and has App Store durrrr"
"screw you guys, im rocking out on my Danielle Steel 5th edition Sony Reader =D"
"I prefer to read normal books (USER WAS BANNED FOR THIS POST)"
*yawn*
seriously, get a life. myb u have been on engadget for too long already.
Bookeen was a surprise last minute addition to the presenters at the conference last week in NYC, and their rep talked about a US release in 2009. Now I know why.
*argh!* That should have been the idpf conference above. ( http://www.idpf.org/digitalbook09/ )
another opus?
At one point they say that their screen is 167 DPI, which is consistent with Sony and Amazon, but then they claim 200DPI. Their screen seems to be last generation technology (only 4 greyscale).
The one in the pdf is not the one on the picture, so something needs clarification here because it indeed makes no sense as it is.
nice, but i dont read ebooks lol
Me neither -- at least, not in any large numbers. I read a few back in my Compaq Ipaq days. But something this size, resolution, and style might convince me to adopt the technology. If they could just get reader prices to the $50 mark or so, I'd be very interested. But not at the $300 to $400 prices of current generation stuff.
$50 is a bit low to hope for, you can't even buy a {legal} game for that money, but yeah the prices are still a bit high for a B&W product just meant for reading books.
I'd say €89.- or maybe €130, but after that when I see full HD colormonitors in the same shop for that pricerange I start thinking 'I dunno'
Although you have to account for the cost of the battery of course, apart from the screen I mean.
preipod
That sure is an awful lot of color pictures underneath it... for a device that is greyscale.
Maybe they're book covers?
