Samsung i7500 to be renamed Galaxy, released in France in early July

Speaking of Samsung touchscreen handsets, Bouygues Telecom's announced that they expect to ship the company's first Android handset -- the i7500 -- in early July, making it the first carrier to snag it. The French company will rebadge the device, calling it the Galaxy, which is certainly sexier than the numeric moniker. The quad-band GSM, tri-band 7.2Mbps HSDPA (900/1700/2100MHz) handset has a 3.2-inch, 320 x 480 pixel AMOLED touchscreen, WiFi, GPS, a 5 megapixel camera, 8GB of storage with MicroSD expansion for up to 32GB more. We're still expecting this bad boy -- which recently passed through the old FCC -- to make a possible T-Mobile debut this fall.

Where's Motorola's effort? I thought that they were getting behind Android too?
ANDROID SUCKS!!!
WINMO7RULEZ!!!
ok so now i know that this place is full with Android fanbois.
kthnxbye.
WINMO7RULEZ!!!
i love fanboy baiting
fanboy baiting - the sport of the internets
@smaa,
no sir, it's called "flamebaiting"
I think the Motorola phone will end up being the unbranded G1 "update" or whatever it was called on the plan for the year chart.
"winmo 7 rules", is that a risk your willing to take?
I love Symbian
UIQ!!!!!!!!
This is so sleek compared to the boring HTC Dream.
Wlel of course.. the Dream is several years old design, the Sammy is current design. You'd have to compare it with the HTC Magic and NOT the Dream and when you do that the Magic wins hands down in the style dept.
The Samsung has nothing visually that stands it out from a row of phones, it looks like any other Samsung phone whereas the hTC grabs your attentions and people ask what it is. When you hold it it feels like one solid unit and it feels smooth and slick.
The PR photos for the Magic don't do it justice, not even my photos which give a better view than the PR ones do (see here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17999796) - you need to see it in person to appreciate the screen quality and look of the phone!
are you kidding me? the only thing about the magic is that its "ooh look at me" white. I think the samsungs design is much better
Does anyone else think it looks a bit outdated like they had those samsung/lg style sliders in like 2006-7 ?
uhmm..... no?

still no?
Yes. Still no.
Nope.
yup i find it to have an outdated look.
but remember, this is what makes a Sammy being a Sammy.
with those HDW specs, who cares man!
it's a great phone, to kill time with while waiting for SE's X3
;)
Magic, Dream, Galaxy?
Bad names, similar to nintendo
and we all know how badly those have worked out
Oh yeah, the Nintendo 64 and Nintendo DS were such bad names...
Not to mention the Wii which is still outselling other consoles.
no, what she really means is "pretty badass"!!!
would love an android phone for the gmail integration but without the physical keyboard it's a no-go for me. Of course I'm eager to know how the virtual keyboard will hold up compared to the iPhone's but as with the iPhone's virtual keyboard it's just a pain to type anything longer than a tweet. I'll be keeping an eye out for the G1v2
wow insane specs,should dethrone iPhone?
Right?
When was iPhone ON the throne?
All the time actually. On the throne for the royally constipated.
FIRST!
Oh man, massive fail here.
not that massive, the fail was intentional.
who the hell wanna write FIRST nearly AN HOUR after the first post? go figure...
the title is wrong.
Samsung i7500 to be renamed Galaxy, released in France in early July.
released in July? Last Year? :(??
nope, the writer just came back with a DeLorean.
The "released" is inflected as part of "to be"
man hope it wont only be on tmobile. i get terrible service with them ATM and was thinking of switching to att
Oh man, i hope that T-Mobile actually rolls out a decent network for this phone. I would switch to this from my G1 if T-Mobile had a HSDPA network in the works. They'd have the leg up on all the other carriers. The 3G isn't bad, i just wish i could get it faster than 1.5Mbps. Regardless, I like the specs of this phone.
I wish they'd post the amount of RAM!
gaaaah no US launch date and potentially going to T-Mobile?? fml
Will this phone support android 2.0 donut? I heard that for the donut update it will need a totaly different type of phone. Dont know what that means , but it could meant that it would need more horsepower or it would do away with needing any buttons.
Anyone know?
i may be wrong on this but the way it looked to me, from the vid of the 2.0 thats on the internet, htc is kinda making a dashboard/skin or whatever for the 2.0 release and that it might not be actually google doing some of those changes.
Any idea about price of unlocked version ?
doesnt look better than the omnia
"in early July, making it the first carrier to snag it"
That's not correct.
O2 Germany announced some time ago that they will offer the I7500 in June:

The thought of the french getting it first irks me.
yeah....
