Touchpanel Laboratories shows off touchscreen with 9-point detection

It's not exactly as impressive as a touch panel with unlimited points of input, but this new resistive touch panel with 9-point detection from Touchpanel Laboratories is still a cut above most and, better still, it seems to actually be ready to head into production. Unfortunately, details are otherwise a bit light, but the company does say that they're able to make panels ranging in size from four to 15 inches. Touchpanel Labs didn't stop there, however, and also took the opportunity to show off a touchpanel that can be installed on curved surfaces, as well as a touchpanel-based ordering system specifically designed for use in restaurants, which it intends to install in "bars located around the company."

Just couldn't get that last finger in there, eh?
that's what she said.
that was disturbing...
I am both happy and saddened to say that Adam's post was basically what I wanted to type, and Najakwa's response was the first that came to my mind... Now I am forced to type this self referential... meta-post of a sort, in order to maintain a sense of relevance on the internet ^___^
Seems like they should make a 20 point and 21 point model as well then...
9 point, they should just make it 10 that way you can use both hands
You can still use 2 hands.
Did the writer of the software lose a finger somewhere?
thats awesome, something like the microsoft
"bars located around the company"
I am not sure if they mean bars in the area, bars on their facilities, or if this is a typo and they meant to say bars around the country. But I think if it was meant as their company bars...I found my new dream job.
Just out of interest, how many can current multitouch devices ( iPhone and the surface etc.) do? Is it much less?
MS Surface is unlimited I believe as it utilizes different technology than this screen or the iphone. I do no know how many points the iphone is capable of, but the macbook trackpads supports up to 4 finger recognition.
I can get five points on my iPhone in the apps Koi Pond and Heat Pad. Not sure if that's the hardware limit, API limit, or just the limit of these apps.
Sweet, now we just have to rely on the cook not to screw up the order ;)
Is it me or does this development hint of multi-touch enabled screens for future windows 7 laptops...
Don't ask me why, but for some reason, when I read the title of this article, I was almost certain that it said "Touchpanel Labradors". I had visions of "Rush" from the Mega Man games...
Nah, just can't get behind that idea. I guess I'm old fashioned but I still enjoy human interaction. I tend to avoid on-line ordering for a lot of things just because I like to talk to people. Though on occasion it is very helpful, and I can see it would be nice to know that there is only one person at fault should your order come out wrong, but then I could never really get upset at things like that. I have no where to be that is so important that I can't wait a bit for food to come out. Can't stand the assholes that make a server's life miserable.
So the single touch screen system used at the restaurant I ate at last week is now obsolete? I don't know. The waitress I saw using it seemed to be doing OK with a single touch point. I really don't see the need for multi-touch in a restaurant/bar setting. I guess it would allow employees to select multiple wrong items in a much more efficient way.
Anyone else see what looks like a small fire happened on the inspiron behind the panel?
it looks like it had a fire where the power adapter plugs in?
