BlackBerry Storm 2 due next month?
Perhaps it should come as no surprise, given the pervasiveness of recent leaks, but word has it that the clickscreen-free BlackBerry Storm 2 could be hitting shelves as early as June, and no later than July. Word comes from Mr. BlackBerryOS.com himself, who got word from an "insider" who has proved reliable in the past. She says the internal deadline for training tech support is end of month, and while such an early followup seems like a bit of a raw deal for original Storm buyers, it doesn't come as too much of a shock. Is it just us, or is this kind of shaping up into a "phone heavy" summer? Maybe it's just the sunstroke.

How much research could have been put into the screen outside of engineering? Its basically an LCD that floats above a button. Sync the button press int he OS and you're done. I was initially surprised at how simple it was.
My biggest issue with the screen is that it relies on a single centered button under the screen, so pressing the corners results in a strange tilting.
My opinion is there should have been 4-5 buttons spaced under the screen so it presses evenly wherever you pressed it. Then again I can only hope/assume RIM tried this and had valid reasons to not use it.
Something haptic based will probably work better in the end though.
I see a big storm coming, more like 2
Where's Motorolas combatant? lol
Moto is probably working on their RAZR-Q that runs WinCE 3.0, weighs 2 lbs, and battery life of 3 minutes. It'll be $49 after $500 rebate with a 5 year contract.
3 lbs lighter, and 2 more minutes of battery life longer than it's last gadget. Alright! hahaha
As a storm user, I will be pissed if it comes out this quickly. Also (from an admitted apple fanboy) I really enjoy the clicking screen and it is great for people like my mother, who have not used a touchscreen device before. What kills the storm is laggy software and a horrible browser. Storm v1 should have baked a bit longer, but it is not a terrible phone. Not as great as easy to use as an iPhone, but it kept me on verizon for a little bit longer.
I can see too many people upset over this. Early investors should get a rebate of some sort to change over, $100 sounds about right.
You mean adopters?
Yeah, sorry. It's hard to type, think of a word, and look over your shoulder all at the same time.
This is no surprise to me that verizon will be releasing two and maybe more blackberrys this year; the reason for this is because all year long verizon has been trying to clear their inventories of blackberrys. For over five months now they have a deal going that if you buy one blackberry you get another one free. Verizon is always sending me emails or mail about this promotion. The only bad side to this deal is that when you buy a blackberry and get another one for free you have to activate the free one. As we all know the Storm is not the best blackberry on the market.
Blakcberry has done a much better job than apple and palm at keeping this underwraps..hell it only appered in the past two week and it is coming out in june-july with the Pre and the iPhone
wow....you're right...is it conceivable...that ummmm...the entire point is to generate buzz through...LEAKS!?!?!?!
true, but if they start the buzz too early (sprint), tends to get people frustrated and causes them to lose interest after a certain amount of time of nothing but speculations. a month or two is fine, but come on!
With Verizon in talks with Apple for launching the iphone, will we see the storm2 on other networks?
A far better idea is to actually take the time to make some major changes to the Blackberry OS for the storm and spend a lot of time optimizing and debugging the OS and software.
- The Blackberry OS for all models needs a new hardware-accelerated user interface that supports advanced graphics
- A Storm-specific user interface layer (hardware accelerated) needs to be created that is built from the ground up for intuitive touch control like the iPhone and Palm Pre interface.
Please tell me this is true and quickly. I just picked up the Storm 1 a week ago and I still have like 2-3 weeks to take it back and keep my upgrade discounts. I hate when you don't know if you can trust rumors!
for some reason I think if this device does make it out right now ( as in the next two months) I doubt it will see the Verizon network. This version is probably for another carrier(s) and the Original click screen will probably be resurrected this winter.
just my two-
ieye of the storm?
i need this badly
!
uhhh...?
what the...?
what!?
Don't count on a Storm 2 next month. Maybe an *official* firmware update for the original Storm, but not a Storm 2!
ugh. stop complaining about big red pissing off existing storm owners. what makes you think VZ cares about how pissed the people that bought an original storm are going to be? get real. verizon and rim want money and you have it. regardless if you have a storm they know you are going to want a sexier slimmer sleeker one.
as for the unit. i hope they just provide a better software experience and make the phone less the engineer’s phone and more the media/gamer’s/'net surfer's phone.
the iphone is a nice pair of designer jeans. any blackberry is a business suit.
Why would this seem like "such a raw deal"?? Look at all the original iPhone buyers after a year, start seeing the iPhone 3G come out. You mean to tell me that there's no parallel? Come on... especially after seeing Steve Jobs post his letter on the Apple site saying "this is the tech world....you jump in one minute and you're obsolete the next (speaking of the price cuts of course)"
I find it funny that when Apple does this, nothing really gets mentioned, but when Blackberry does it,... it's a different story. Just for the record, my wife has the iPhone and I have a BB Curve. No complaints here.
but where's god damn tour already verizon!
Didn't the RIM CEO admit after launch that this phone wasn't ready and that's how things are these days. They release a phone as a beta and improve it as they go. Well this seems like they took the money and ran on updating their beta phone and are lining up the suckers for their next "beta" phone claiming they fixed the problems with the last one....just deposit $499 to get the new one, new problems and all.
Who cares? I don't. This is because in my area of expertise, the marketing weasels all owned Blackberries and the cool creative and tech guys all owned iPhones.
Actually wouldn't the marketing weasels be the creative guys with the iPhones and the cool tech guys like the extra features of the Blackberries?
ALL I WANT IS THE TOUR!!! COME OUT WITH THAT FIRST!!!!!
Currently on the storm you need to touch the screen with the tip of your finger. I was told by a verizon employee that it had something to do with the heat from your finger. I have long nails so the way the current screen operates does not work for me and I really like the Storm. Does anyone know if the changes that they are talking about on the storm 2 will change this???
it is still a capacitive touch screen so the nails will not work.
The Blackberry Storm DID have it's issues, but then again so did the first iphone. Personally, I loved my Storm and am now hooked on Blackberrys. I used to want an iphone really bad, but after having a Blackberry Storm the stupid childish urge left. I also liked the clickscreen. Whether the Storm 2 has it or not I'm buying it the day it comes out. I can't wait! And the Storm 2 will DEFINITELY be an iphone assasin. The iphone will soon be a thing of the past...it will become the Motorola Startac of the 21st century-remember what a revolutionary phone that was?- the iphone too will be just as forgotten after the Storm 2 comes thru Jobs' town.... HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!
