Microsoft's beta My Phone service for Windows Mobile now free to all
Go 'n get it! Microsoft's My Phone service is now ready for all Windows Mobile users to test. The beta service syncs any Windows Mobile 6+ phone to Microsoft's 200MB per person cloud. That includes contacts, calendars, tasks, photos, text messages, music, videos, and more. In essence, anything on the My Phone website is on the phone and vice versa. Hey free is free and this is a goodie.

meh
So is it:
a) free, and b) working?
And if so does that mean it's better than MobileMe?
Working and free. Can't ask for much more than that. Hopefully enough people actually use the service, lots of goodies like this go unnoticed to the masses.
Can't speak to MobileMe, but it was a pretty painless install, easy to use and works as advertised.
It's beta so it shouldn't be. MobileMe works great now even though it sucked at launch. You also get 20GB of storage and the UI is much better. But it isn't free...
Why the hell is Anderson high ranked? If he had read the article his idiotic questions would have been answered, no?
Anyway, Wait till your contact lists are hacked.
I did. It doesn't tell me if it's working, merely what it proposes to do. Nor are there any details of future pricing strategies.
But feel free to embarrass yourself further.
It's been working for me. It doesn't do much except sync to the phone
I know MS has talked about integrating it with the rest of their Live services once it's out of beta, which should alleviate the 200Mb limit.
Hopefully it's remain free at least for basic services. I don't really need a paid service to manage my contacts (though it does a much better job than Google's HORRIBLE contacts).
At least you dont have to pay for it.... unlike Mobile fail (Mobile Me)
Hur hur... Yeah paying for things is DUMB.
... jackass. MobileMe is not without it's share of problems but MS' 'me too!' philosophy of tugging at Apple's trouser leg like an enfant terrible is hardly competition... especially on a WinMo device, which are about as appealing to the consumer audience as Ebola on toast. Power users operate on Exchange.
It always amuses me how the Im A PC crowd value free/cheap solutions to everything - no matter the quality of experience or service.
i read that incorrect spelling of infant "elephant" and procured a very bizarre mental image.
Bah, talk whatever you want... I know for sure my XP on my pc is way more snappy than OSX on my mac. Especially using Adobe apps... And my browser is not crashing like crazy.

enfant terrible: a person whose unconventional behavior embarrasses others
What I want to know is, when are Microsoft are gonna grow an original thinking cell in that brain of there's. Seriously, I'm struggling to remember the last time they actually came up with any ideas of their own! You'd think that a company that spends close to 5 Billion dollars a year on R&D would be able to come up with it's own ideas. I guess money isn't everything.
@Fender
You know, for the most part, I think all the PC-Mac/iPhone-WinMo dick waving that goes around here is pretty stupid. There are idiots on both sides, but I have found myself defending Mac/iPhone users more than once just because PC/Linux/WinMo/Android what-have-you users always think that Mac users have some sort of monopoly on fanboyism, which just isn't true.
However, in this case, you are truly a douche who epitomizes all the stupidity of Mac fanboys. I just installed My Phone and it was quick, easy and the user experience is fantastic. Apple, on the other hand, totally blew it with Mobile Me. So, why the fuck would you be so stupid to use this example to make a point that PC users value cheap over user experience, when you're talking about a product which is completely free with an awesome user experience? Microsoft gave their customers something free and useful, so how the hell do you spin that into something bad? Moron.
Looks like we've got another Jubei on our hands.
@Tonicboy
I'm sorry, did I offend? I'm afraid I can't apologise for my appreciation in aesthetics and logic - attributes of taste that don't cost anything and are certainly not Apple-branded.
MS are a confused, flapping, scared company, poorly marketing terrible jangly products to the wrong audience. Trying to push WinMo on to young people more interested in OSX, Android and even BlackBerry for their media and email/messaging communication kicks is as ridiculous as big ass coffee tables that need keyboards to setup, a motto that doesn't make any sense (a life without walls = no windows, tool), consoles that scratch games and overheat, a desktop OS that users paid to AVOID and uninstall... man I could go on.
MS are a circus of a company, and if you can't see the sickening hilarity in their products or services, I hope employer got a receipt when he hired you.
I use www.dashwire.com
Free and MUCH more useful than My Phone. you can send text messages through your computer, its cool :P
I'd rather not keep my contacts in the hackable cloud, thanks.
Yes, it's much safer to store them on your hackable phone or hackable computer. And besides, who the hell cares that much about your contacts anyways?
You control your phone and computer. Physically.
Can't say the same of the servers.
So... you've never used Hotmail, Yahoo Mail or GMail? Or are you just a hypocrite?
A lot of my contacts have telephone numbers they've been using for years, they wouldn't like it if my carelessness is the reason they're being stalked, harassed, or spammed.
Email addresses, on the other hand, can be easily changed, spammers and harassers can be blocked. It's just not that easy with telephone numbers. And no, I don't store telephone numbers in my email accounts' address books.
Is this high rank the idiots day or something?
SuperHobo is right. You can control your computer and your phone. You cant control the servers holding all your information/contacts etc.
Tonicnoob asks about Hotmail and the like... Bad example man, bad. Those are hacked on the daily. All the time. So in a way you are just helping SuperHobo to prove his point.
Did you even read about what the program does? If you don't want your contacts in the "cloud" then uncheck the box that puts them there. It's basically a backup program. I use it to sync my pictures up, and nothing else. Maybe some people just want their text messages backed up... It's not all or nothing...
Oh right, I forgot. Phone numbers are such super-secret sensitive information while email addresses are nothing. It's a good thing there aren't a hundred ways to find someone's phone number. Oh, wait...
@Agent .25i
Next time sharpen your reading comprehension before making wise-ass remarks. The point is, this is no less secure than Hotmail, etc. so if he uses any of those programs, then he's a hypocrite, Agent 25Dumbass (see what I did there? I took your username and tacked an insult onto the end. Aren't I clever?)
if you want something unhackable, then you can just forget about all electronics that store any information. In fact, if your information was even that valuable, you wouldnt even want to remember, for they'll torture u for it.
I hope your MyPhone account gets hacked and your contacts get stalked.
F'in idiots.
Sounds kkoool. ill defo be checkin it out.
you should change your name to Death2Grammar
Tanks myro255, same thing for symbian s60v3 ?
My N85 isn't supported yet
Aye aye Captain,
You can use Nokia's Ovi Store for the same thing. http://www.ovi.com. Its free.
It can totally organize your digital life. It syncs up your Contact, Calendar, Notes, Music, Photos over the network or wifi. The interface is very accessible and useful.
I have a Nokia N82 and it works great. A great advantage is it is integrated with Flickr, so if you use Nokia's Lifeblog to upload and share your photos on Flickr, it can pull you photos from there.
looks like I can't use my WinMo 2003SE phone with it. grrrr
a WM 2003SE phone?!?! why are you still using something sooooooooooo old??
What hardware? Head on over to xda-developers.com, there's almost certainly a way to get it to WM5 or WM6.
Going to check it out. Hopefully this works in conjunction with my hotmail account.
WinMo is for cheap people? Microsoft advertising says so. That's why it is free. No?
So is this a dealzmodo ... oh.
Is it macpatible?
Is that a stupid question?
It's not an application for a desktop, just for your WM phone. You can view your personal cloud via any web browser :)
I've been using it for a while now and it's been very useful!! (especially after flashing a new ROM!!)
ooh browser based, nifty
I just tried to install that from Microsoft website on my HTC2, I've put my mobile number got text with link clicked and ... Sorry, we couldnt find that page. Please try one of these: MSN Directory , homepage... well done.
Same here. MS FAIL
So it basically does what Outlook does, except puts it on a cloud, risky and higher chances of losing details to bots/hacks, bringing your list of contact full of spam emails, text, cold callers and Nigerian Generals? Count me in!
"Nigerian Generals"
OMG. Too funny.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JAH43TZYGt4
Outlook backs up my text messages and pictures and documents on my phone? Where is that setting? If you don't want your contacts in the cloud, guess what? Uncheck the box that syncs them with the cloud.
YES!!!!
MICROSOFTRULEZ!!!
Honestly, I left WinMo a while back - On symbian now but about to jump to Android (Samsung Galaxy...ohh yeah)
Anyway, this is too little too late - Microsoft had the potential of a great platform, and if integrated properly (without a reliance on Outlook) could have won the consumer market... I appreciate the business market is more lucrative, but look where they are now - win the general public otherwise you fall flat on your face!
It's good they're catching up, but with such a lead you'd have thought this would be a standard feature years ago.
Good concept...let's up the storage...yes?
