LG's 50PS70 and 60PS70 plasmas get 160GB Time Machine functionality
The jury's still out on whether inbuilt DVRs are good for HDTVs, but LG's obviously hot to trot on the whole idea. Nearly a year after first introducing sets with an integrated Time Machine, the outfit is hitting back with two new big-screen plasmas that each posses a 160GB internal hard drive. The X Canvas 50PS70 (50-inch) and 60PS70 (60-inch) panels also boast 600Hz dejudder technology and can record overflow onto external drives connected via USB 2.0. Additional details (price, screen resolution, availability, etc.) are scant, but we'll be sure to keep an ear to the ground.

MICROSOFTRULEZ!!!
tough choice - pick the one inside or outside the tv.
Why you gotta pick?
I'd just take both ;)
I want a PC hooked up to my HDTV, not a PC in my HDTV...
How does this "Time Machine" functionality work?
I followed the link to the previous article Engadget mentioned but didn't see anything about it there either. I've been using a Philips DVR for years now and I'm curious about what new recording features this "time machine" you mention brings.
Time Machine is an automatic backup suite. It ships with Mac OSX 10, and apparently can now backup your TVs HD.
Why wouldn't you want a 50 Inch HDTV with built in 160 Gig HD DVR? Especially if it's fully cable card and ethernet ready?
So how long before Apple goes after LG for using "Time Machine"?
And then sues H.G. Wells for daring to call his book that 80 years before apple existed.
In related news, call me when this thing is tru2way, cable cards suck.
Engadget you've let me down. Not only is this not new, but it was introduced WAY before a year ago as your previous article states.
Unless you guys are talking about something else??? If "Time Machine" == "Built in DVR" then I've got a 42" LG LCD from 2006!!!

It's definitely no Tivo (not even close) but it does work and I avoid having to pay Comcast for their crappy DVR box.
I was just going to post this myself. I had the 50PC1DR. It had such promise. Built in 160GB DVR, CableCard, Firewire, ASTC Tuner, CF Media Card Reader. I sold it to my friend and bought a Panasonic TH-50PZ700 1080p set and I use Media Center throughout my house via 360 extenders now.
I too, purchased an 42LB1DR - my 42" LCD hdtv with built-in DVR. We use it every day, and record and watch (later) tons and tons of stuff.
Some day when I have time, I'm upgrading the hard drive to 500G. Several people have done it.
Um yeah, an integrated DVR is nothing new.
Yeah, I got an LG LCD TV with Time Machine 2 yrs ago...
Oh god want.
Inside or Outside?
I'll take inside for a grueling swim, then a relaxing dinner with the outside one later.
Please.
wow... this presenter is my cuppa!
Engadget, do you think you could be more clear when you say "Time Machine"? It would really help if you said "Time Machine DVR" because, as you can see, several people have mistaken this to mean Apple's Time Machine backup feature.
now why would they do that when they can mislead readers and generate more clicks?
It's dangerous to go alone... take this.
mmm, Korean gadget waifs.... 당신을 사랑합니다!!!
This seems to be a two-for-one deal...
I don't understand why HDTVs don't have the Cable box/Satelite receiver intergrated. I have a 47' sharp Aquios HDTV and I don't even use the remote it came with. Instead I use Direct TV's white remote with rainbow buttons. When I use my DVD player I need to grab yet another remote, which is I refer to as the midget remote. Lets not for get the sound system remote which is like fidgiting with a badly designed Wii stick.
Yeah I've heard the argument, get a universal remote. I say screw that!...how about little more effort in intergrating all this hardware. My next HDTV I want to have a DVR, Satelite receiver, Blu-Ray, and Sound system (with stand alone speakers) all in one TV.
Stop offering bits and pieces that merely complicate things. Show me the whole enchilada and I might be interested.
People don't want a TV anymore...they want a home theatre.
