Sony Ericsson's facial recognition patent plays the perfect song to complement your mood
We don't expect this to be indicative of any near-term projects for the now financially hindered phone maker, but one of Sony Ericsson's recently unearthed patents paves the way for some interesting uses. From what we gather, while listening to music on your device, a picture of your face would be taken. That image would then be run through software that interprets your mood, and an appropriate next song based on those emotions would be picked -- so much for the art of mixtapes. Presumably, it'd also require a phone or device with a camera mounted on the same side as the screen, so unless mobile video conferencing takes off in a huge way, we can't see people paying extra for a phone or device with this configuration. And if you just got dumped over SMS, we hope it doesn't intepret those tears as a good time to play that Damien Rice song you two fell in love with. Hit up the read link for the full patent details.

well you are right. The cd was called reign in blood but everyone is refering to the song on that cd called raining blood.
No it isn't, Reign in Blood is the Album while Raining Blood is the song.
SLAAAAAAYEEEEER
Loads of phones have a cheap VGA camera screen-side; doesn't add significantly to the price. Plus, makes for a good mirror.
Yeah a poor camera on a tiny screen makes a 'great' mirror, I'm going to guess you don't have such a camera on the front of your phone.
This is great, it first reminds people that all those cameras everywhere are using facial recognition, and secondly will boost sales of tape and introduce a new fashionwave of phones with pieces of tape stuck on lenses.
YES! Now I can be just like Peter Griffin and have my own theme music!
"Ridin' on a bus, ridin' on a bus, there's an empty seat, I hope that isn't pee..."
The inability to wish to have no bones might make it a little painful for me...
Or rather, the inability to have said wish come true.
So thats where SE's money is going! lol
So, is David listening to the Slayer or Tori Amos version of 'Raining Blood?'
Hard to tell by his expression
HA! Amazingly hilarious picture! XD
He's a little too happy....if you know what I mean..
WOW what an amazingly innovative feature this must be why SE are so financially secure LOL
PG-Pub (US 2009/0116684) if anyone is interested at looking at the patent
hmm his face strikes me as more of an "As He Creates, So He Destroys" mood.
So if I'm incredibly bored, will this thing pick up on it and automatically play elevator music? No thanks!
So why is the only use they can think up for facial mood recognition is annoyingly judging you by playing music? Is that really all there is you can gain from it?
How about an executive app that warns your personal and colleagues (via BT or SMS or email) that you are in a bad mood if you looked angry 4 times in the last hour or something, perhaps have your BT headsetlight color in the mood you are :)
Now, is this Raining Blood, by Slayer or by Tori Amos? How does my face look with either one?
